Item Adequacy of academic journals in Nigeian university libraries during economic gloom:the Kenneth Dike library experience(2000-12) Ola, C. O.; Adeyemi, B. M.This paper discussed the adequacy of academic journals in Nigerian University libraries during economic gloom using the Kenneth Dike library (KDL) experience. It addresses the problem by looking specifically at the library allocations for books and journals from 1981/82 to 1989/90 session as well as the number of journal titles acquired annually vis-a-vis the number of registered readers in the library duirng the period. It was discovered that the library could no longer effectively support academic activities. As the number of registered readers increased, the number of journals acquired decreased. The library could hardly afford to maintain subsciption in existing journals not to mention adding new titles to the collection. It is therefore advocated that prioprity journals should be given first attention when allocating funds. University library administratos should evovle co- operative acquisitons. Avenues of getting aid from international organisations should be explored while the opportunities presented by internet should be utilized to enhance document delivery.Item Assessment of study space usage in the Kenneth Dike Library(University Libraries of the University of Nebraska,Lincoln, Nebraska, USA., 2017) Adeyemi, B. M.This study utilizes user’s study as a method for evaluating electronics databases collections at an institution with growing graduate research demands. The study focus group is the graduate students of the University of Ibadan with regards to their awareness, usability, and their feels about various issues surrounding the university electronic databases collections. The study employed descriptive survey research design using questionnaire to gather information from postgraduate students. Data was randomly collected from selected 200 post graduate students who visited the reference units of the main library and faculty libraries. Out of the 200 copies of questionnaire administered, 164 copies were returned representing 82% return rate. Findings indicate that the study group is aware of electronics databases in the library. It confirmed that 55.5 percent of PG students make use of the electronic databases daily for their research. AGORA and HINARI were the two mostly consulted by the respondents and lack of information literacy skills is an obstacle to the effective use of electronic database among post graduate students. Based on the findings of the study, it is recommended that creation of awareness among users about different electronics resources should be a priority for the university library management. Information retrieval skills training should be organized, at intervals, for users.Item Cataloging of special materials(End-Time Publishing House, Ibadan, 2001) Adeyemi, B. M.Though the academic library’s primary mission is to serve the students, faculty and staff of its parent institution, would-be users not officially associated with the institution frequently call upon the library to provide services and/or resources. This paper attempts to examine the use of KDL resources/service by unaffiliated users, focusing on the user’s affiliation, status, subject areas and geographical distribution of the users with policy statement regarding the users. For this purpose, 352 user transaction request forms during the academic year 2012 were analyzed, out of which 243 (69 percent) are undergraduates, while 21(5.9 percent) are at PhD students. Users from the University community constitute 74.4 percent of external visitors to the library. The study revealed that Kenneth Dike Library supports the community use of its resources by granting access to unaffiliated users. The study therefore recommends among other things, that, access privileges must not interfere with the library’s service to its primary clientele of students, faculty and staff. Information concerning the library, particularly library use policy should be easily accessible to users who are not familiar with the library, and should be placed in strategic locations that are visible to users.Item Funding local government and public sector libraries in austere times(Codat Publications, Ibadan, 2001-05) Ola, C. These include inadequate funding, poor literacy skills of staff, poor broadband access, weak ICT policy plan and weak institutional support. Considering the prospects of implementing information commons, Nigerian academic libraries were admonished to start working towards creating information commons to increase library patronage.Item Important landmarks and dates of relevance to the library(Ibadan University Press, Publishing House, Ibadan, 2018) Adeyemi, B. M.; Adewumi, C. O. B.Item Information literacy search skills among post-graduate students at the federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria(Association of Information Professionals in Nigeria, 2018) Adeyemi, B. M.This study assessed the information literacy skills possessed by post- graduate students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), and the extent to which they used these information literacy skills in their academic works. Descriptive survey approach was adopted for this study. A structured questionnaire that discussed the information needs, information sources, the level of information literacy skills and benefits of instructional programme was the instrument for data collection and was randomly administered on the postgraduate students of nine colleges during the last semester of 2016/17 academic year. 150 copies of questionnaire were distributed and 135 were returned giving a response rate of 90%. The data collected were analyzed using simple percentages and means. The study revealed that most of the students were aware of the information sources which were available in the library. The students mostly relied on the internet/search engines, textbooks, periodical/ journals, professionals and colleagues for information. They rarely used electronic resources such as AGORA, TEEAL and HINARI. This could be due to a lack of awareness and skills necessary to search databases. Some suggestions were made by the respondents according to their need to improve their information literacy skill such as access to online sources, organizing instructional programmes at the faculty libraries, creating more awareness on instructional programmes, avoiding copyright issues in research and how to use academic databases. The study recommends a great deal of communication and collaboration among librarians and faculty members. They need to work closely to integrate information literacy skills with existing curricular goals.Item Information technology: an erosion of cataloguing and classification practices?(1998-06) Ola, C. O.; Adeyemi, B. M.The gradual metamorphosis of information handling techniques from the era of book arrangement according to weight, length/size, colour, etc. to the informatised epoch is explored. TINLIB software has been made the paradigm in the study and analysis of the impact of Information Technology on Library Management Packages. There has been a progression in the system of managing information in Nigeria, albeit only minimal. The information handling mechanism has also crawled-up to a level where cataloguers, classifiers and indexers need a re-orientation to be able to cope with the on-going universal informatisation of society.Item Library and information communications technology for enhancing teaching, learning and research in human kinetics education in Nigeria(2017-01) Adeyemi, B.
