Item The effect of humidity on the reproduction of Amblyomma variegatum (Fabricus, 1794) (Acarina: Ixodidae)(Acarologia, 1991) Ekpenyong, G. D.; Akinboade, O. A.The effect of humidity on the reproduction of Amblyomma variegatum (fabricus,1794) (acarina:ixodidae) was studied using different humidity ranges at constant tempreture of 25 °CItem Effects of trypanosomosis on some blood biochemical parameters in rabbits(1999-10) Ola-Davies, O.; Saba, A. B.; Ariyibi, A.; Akinboade, O. A.The effect of trypanosomosis on blood biochemical Parameters were studied in 20 New Zealand white rabbits of 6 to 7 months of age. Mean total protein and globulin levels in the infected rose significantly (P<0.05) while the mean albumin level decline in the same group simultaneously. Mean total plasma Cholesterol, trlglyceride concentration mean glutamate oxaloacelate transaminase (GOT) and the glutamate pyruvate transaminase (GPT) levels decreased significantly (P<0.05) in the infection group. The implications of these results are briefly discussedItem Studies on bacterial association with Amblyomma variegatum (Fabricius, 1974) (Acarina: Ixodidae)(University of Ibadan, 1990) Ekpenyong, G. D.; Akinboade, O. A.Amblyomma variegatum, a haematophagus estoparasitic arthropod, is a known vector of several protozoan, bacterial, rickettsial and viral parasites of livestock. Being a 3-host tick , the larvae, nymphs and adults are active in transmitting these microorganisms. In this study, four bacteria Staphylococcus pyogenes, Enterobacter alvei, Escherichia coli and Klesbsiella rhinoscleromatis were isolated from the haemolymph of A variegatum detached from trade cattle. Staphylococcus pyogenes and Klebsiella rhinoscleromatis were found in the egg and larval extracts. It was observed that these two bacteria are transmitted transovarially by A. variegatum.
