A.In Nigeria and some other countries of the world, improving students’ ICT competency and awareness has become a pedagogical issue. Accordingly, education on ICT competency and awareness is becoming popular in institutions of learning. However, determining a student’s ICT readiness, awareness and competency level is germane to the success of teaching and learning using ICT tools. Consequently, this study has developed tools for measuring the level of students’ ICT competency, awareness and readiness in learning. This research is necessary because using ICT for instruction has gained remarkable popularity in recent times. Nigeria is not left out in this euphoria of using ICT for instruction. The major focus of this paper is to investigate the level of awareness, readiness and competencies for the use of ICT for instruction by Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan distance learning students. Distance learning programmes and the use of ICT for its facilitation and enhancement is not a new phenomenon in Nigeria, hence the need to measure the level of compliance of students in order to aid the institution under study to make policies that would help in achieving the goals of using ICT for instruction and learning. A questionnaire was randomly distributed among the distance learning students of the faculty and results of the study revealed that majority of the respondents have little or no knowledge of application of ICT to learning. The study also revealed that a great percentage of students were not exposed to the usage of ICT and as such limited in its use in learning. It is recommended that the Curriculum should include the use of ICT as a course from the first year to the final year of study, the course content should include advance skills as from the second year; and it should be made compulsory to enhance the students’ ICT skills.Item E-library utilization among students of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ogun State, Nigeria(Information Practitioners Network, Ozoro, Nigeria, 2014-06) Otulugbu, D.; Mamudu, P. A.The study reveals that e-resources such as e-books, e-journals, e- magazines/newspapers, e-databases are available in the e- library for the students' use. It revealed e- magazines/newspapers as always used by students of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), with e-journals occasionally used. Persistent power failure, lack of access to e- library, and limited bandwidth were the major constraints hindering students' effective use of e-resources in the e-library. Students' internet self-efficacy was found to have a significant influence on the perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of e-library among the students while perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use were found to positively influence e-library usage among the students.Item An introduction to the use of library, study skills and information and communications technology(NelPhil, Ibadan, Nigeria, 2015) Oyewo, A. O.; Mamudu, P. A.Item Librarians as information miners: the case of Nigeria(Information Practitioners Network, Ozoro, Nigeria, 2014-12) Mamudu, P. A.; Otulugbu, D.The need to resolve the question of what special skills librarians in Nigeria need to possess to enable them discover and harvest knowledge from digital libraries, know the retrieval engines and indexing structure as well as identify information needs, fine-tune and/or situate search terms in order to harvest results within the fastest speed/time possible cannot be over emphasized. This paper therefore evaluates the knowledge and skills needed by librarians in Nigeria to achieve optimum competence and performance in the digital environment. It examines the features of some internet databases with the aim of appropriating them to facilitate the digital consciousness of Librarians in the Nigerian digital environment, since these databases have similarities in structure; hence the aim is to facilitate high quality and timely research output. An acquisition of the relevant skills will facilitate librarians’ competence and performance in navigating, browsing and filtering digital reference services and electronic information services from the digital information sources. Relevant bodies or organizations that are directly responsible for the training and retraining of librarians are enjoined to organize among other activities, periodic workshops targeted at training librarians for the purpose of getting them ready for the challenges of the digital environment.Item Library materials and human health: vulnerability and preservative measures(SCIENCEDOMAIN, 2017-11) Isibor, P. O.; Mamudu, P. A.This manuscript documents a study on the materials and users of selected libraries in Nigeria, with a view to providing vital information on the effects of library-associated organisms on the library materials, and the health of people in its proximity. The study evaluated the modes of action of library-associated biotic (living) and abiotic (non-living) factors, stated the impacts of the activities of the organism(s) on library materials and users, and investigated the prevalent environmental factors necessary for the well-being of the organisms. The modes of action of the non-living degradation agents were also analyzed and preventive measures were implemented accordingly. Non-biodegradable library materials made from synthetic or inorganic sources might be a degradation-free option but on the other hand manufacturing of synthetic products would aggravate environmental pollution challenges. Organisms in the library depend on the ambient conditions to thrive, therefore strategic regulation of the library environment is important. Safety of library users and library materials can be guaranteed by the recommended precautions which were based on the study of the organisms.Item Management of electronic records for service delivery at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria(IGI Global, 2020) Durodolu, O. O.; Mamudu, P. A.; Tsabedze, V.Healthcare providers have, over the years, struggled with the management of patient records. The struggle became exaggerated as information became increasingly large and convoluted. The contemporary healthcare environment is characterised by information overload; without the proper organisation of information resources, access to valuation resources can become an albatross, if not properly managed. Health information is the data associated with the medical ailment of a patient’s history, containing symptoms, diagnoses, procedures, and results. Quick access to this vital information may be a life-and-death decision that must not be taken for granted. This chapter aims to investigate how electronic records are managed in a contemporary method as adopted by the University College Hospital (UCH).Item Recent advances in law library services in Nigeria in the 21st century(2017) Mamudu, P. A.This paper focused on ways by which law library services in Nigeria can be enhanced in the 21st century judging by the recent advances in the technological innovations that can be deployed to improve services. O.; Mamudu, P. A.Purpose – This study examined the interceding influence of work–life balance (WLB) among library staff at the Kenneth Dike Library and its implication for the provision of information. The research sought to respond to the following questions: the effect of demographic variables on the WLB of librarians and their perceptions of WLB within the intimate environment. Design/methodology/approach – This study adopted a positivist research paradigm because the nature of the research revealed a single social reality which can be measured quantitatively, using a reliable instrument such as a questionnaire. The total sampling technique was used to zero in on the staff of the library, in which the entire library population was included in the study. Findings – The findings suggest that male librarians enjoy a better WLB than their female counterparts. Also, the results indicate that librarians, irrespective of their marital status, focused on job-related activities minding their marital status and therefore, marital status could influence the WLB of librarians. Similarly, priority is not being given to their work, to the detriment of caring for the family. Research limitations/implications – The study suggests that age causes the WLB to change, the implication being that an ageing workforce has an impact on adaptation, output and innovation. Originality/value – This paper sheds light on the WLB among librarians at the Kenneth Dike Library (KDL); therefore, information acquired from this study is imaginative and valuable to understand better how information professionals react to official and personal engagement.
