Item Awareness and consequences of human immuno deficiency virus disease among undergraduate students of university of Illorin(2015) Onifade, O. A.; Adio-Moses, R.; Ologele, I.; Adigun, J. O.; Ogungboye, R. O.; Abikoye, A. I.; Oguntunji, I. O.The study examined awareness and consequences of human immune deficiency virus disease among undergraduate students of University of Ilorin. Four research hypotheses were postulated and tested at 0.05 alpha level. The research design adopted for the study was survey type. Through simple random technique, five (5) departments were selected and a sampled size of four hundred and twenty was drawn from selected departments with the use of stratified sampling technique in the University of Ilorin, Kwara State. Data were collected with the use of researcher’s structured questionnaire already validated by the three experts in the field of Human Sexuality, Health Education and Sociology and tested with the use of test re-test reliability technique. A reliability coefficient of .75r was obtained. Demographic data collected were analyzed with the aid of frequency count and simple percentage while the postulated hypotheses were tested with the use of inferential statistics of Chi-square. The result of the study revealed that undergraduate students are significantly different in their awareness on causes, transmission routes, consequences and control of HIV/AIDS. Based on these findings, the researcher recommended that undergraduate students should abstain from indiscriminate sex, it is also recommended that HIV/AIDS education should be carried out by professional concerned in the universities.Item Challenges confronting the prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV/AIDS in Offa Local Government Area, Kwara-State(2014) Oniyangi, S. O.; Onifade, O. A.; Ijaodola, T. K.; Ologele, I; Adio-Moses, R. C.; Abdulmalik, N. A.; Nwabotu, F. A.This study investigated the challenges confronting the prevention of mothers-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria. The transmission of HIV/AIDS from mother-to-child has been a rampant phenomenon in Offa L.G.A. A descriptive research of survey type was used, the population for the study covered all the health workers in Offa Local Government Area, 145 respondents were sampled for the study. Three research questions were raised and three hypotheses were generated which were tested at 0.05 alpha level of significance. The research instrument used for the study was a questionnaire which was validated and tested for reliability. A reliability co-efficient of 0.76r was obtained; using pearson product moment correlation. The instrument was administered by the researchers and some trained research assistant. A descriptive statistic of frequency count and percentage was used for the personal data while the inferential statistic of chi-square was used at 0.05 alpha level of significance to test the hypotheses set for the study. The null hypotheses set were rejected, the findings of this study revealed that challenges such as non-disclosure of HIV/AIDS status, inadequate staff training and inavailability of antiretroviral drugs are parts of the major challenges militating against the proper implementation of prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV/AIDS. It was recommended that there should be adequate staff training to improve their knowledge on the transmission of HIV/AIDS especially in the area of vertical transmission with appropriate treatment. Also, antiretroviral drugs should be available in Health centres and hospitals for the treatment of HIV/AIDS positive mothers and prevention of vertical transmission of the infection, lastly HIV status of pregnant women should be known in order to commence treatment immediately.Item Impacts of flood disaster on sustainable national development in Ibadan North Local Government, Oyo State(Sohar University Oman and Zainab Arabian Research Society for Multidisciplinary Issues Dubai, United Arab Emirate, 2014-09) Onifade, O. A.; Adio-Moses, R. O.; Adigun, J. O.; Oguntunji, I. O.; Ogungboye, R. O.The paper investigated impacts of flood disaster on sustainable national development in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State. Three research hypotheses were postulated and tested at 0.05 alpha level. The research design adopted for the study was survey type. Through purposive randomly sampling techniques, a sampled population of three hundred and twenty residents was used. Data were collected with the use of researcher’s structured questionnaire already validated by two experts in the field of Health Promotion and Environmental Health Education and Geography. Pilot testing was conducted using split half method. A reliability coefficient of .78r was obtained. Demographic data collected were analyzed with the aid of frequency counts and simple percentage while the postulated hypotheses were tested with the use of inferential statistics of Chi-square. The results of the study revealed that flood disaster had significant impact on socio-economy, agricultural production and environment. Based on these findings, the researcher recommends that residents are advised to avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse as this could result into flood disaster and government at all levels should embark on public drainage and bridge construction so as to pave way for water during heavy rainfall.Item Perceived influence of drug on academic performance of secondary school students in Ilorin metropolis, Nigeria(University of Port Harcourt Journal of the Nigeria Association for Physical, Health, Education, Recreation, Sport and Dance, 2015-02) Onifade, O. A.; Dominic, O. L.; Adio-Moses, R.; Adigun, J. O.|; Kolawole, A. O.; Usman, M. D.This study investigated the perceived influence of drug on academic performance of secondary school students in llorin West L.G.A of Kwara State, Nigeria. The descriptive design of the survey type was employed for the study. A total of (400) subject (students) in SS II and SS III ranging between the ages of 13 and 18 years old and above, male and female, formed the research sample. The variables of gender and socio-economic background were tested. A researcher structured questionnaire was used to gather data from the sample. The coefficient of reliability obtained was 0.76 using Pearson product movement statistics. Two research hypotheses were analyzed using percentages, t-test analysis of variance (ANOVA).The result from the study reveal that there is difference in the way male and female students perceived, used drug and its influence on academic performance. Also, there is difference in the way students perceived the use of drugs in relation to economic background and its influence on academic performance. Therefore, it was recommended that Senior Secondary Schools students should be educated more on the influence of drugs on academic performance; this could be done through Symposium, Seminars and also by encouraging the formation of free drugs clubs to serve as medium of campaign on illicit drug use among students arid it implication on academic performance.
