Item Information literacy search skills among post-graduate students at the federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria(Association of Information Professionals in Nigeria, 2018) Adeyemi, B. M.This study assessed the information literacy skills possessed by post- graduate students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), and the extent to which they used these information literacy skills in their academic works. Descriptive survey approach was adopted for this study. A structured questionnaire that discussed the information needs, information sources, the level of information literacy skills and benefits of instructional programme was the instrument for data collection and was randomly administered on the postgraduate students of nine colleges during the last semester of 2016/17 academic year. 150 copies of questionnaire were distributed and 135 were returned giving a response rate of 90%. The data collected were analyzed using simple percentages and means. The study revealed that most of the students were aware of the information sources which were available in the library. The students mostly relied on the internet/search engines, textbooks, periodical/ journals, professionals and colleagues for information. They rarely used electronic resources such as AGORA, TEEAL and HINARI. This could be due to a lack of awareness and skills necessary to search databases. Some suggestions were made by the respondents according to their need to improve their information literacy skill such as access to online sources, organizing instructional programmes at the faculty libraries, creating more awareness on instructional programmes, avoiding copyright issues in research and how to use academic databases. The study recommends a great deal of communication and collaboration among librarians and faculty members. They need to work closely to integrate information literacy skills with existing curricular goals.Item Assessment of study space usage in the Kenneth Dike Library(University Libraries of the University of Nebraska,Lincoln, Nebraska, USA., 2017) Adeyemi, B. M.This paper explores the actual use of the physical space in Kenneth Dike Library by the students’ population, the role these spaces are playing for learning and for related services in the university of Ibadan academic environment. It looked at the suitability of available spaces and suggestions for improvement. Survey method was adopted for the study with 94.5% response rate. It found that quite study space is what attracts majority respondents to Kenneth Dike Library. What emerged was that academic pursuits remain the most common activities in the library space.Item Library and information communications technology for enhancing teaching, learning and research in human kinetics education in Nigeria(2017-01) Adeyemi, B. M.This paper explores the role of the library and modern Information Communications and Technologies (ICT) in promoting teaching, learning and research (TLR) in Human Kinetics Education in Nigeria. It shows the importance of this area of study not just to national but also to human development. The methodologies for TLR are shown to be dynamic depending on the constant changes taking place in the discipline. Curriculum change reflects the infusion of ICT into the discipline which subsequently affects its pedagogy and library collections. The paper also identifies the constraints to proper library and ICT integration to education, nay, Human Kinetics Education in a developing economy as in Nigeria.Item Implementing information commons: the challenges and prospects for Nigerian academic libraries(Medium Publishing Company and Educational Consult in Collaboration with Options Book Ibadan, Nigeria, 2015-06) Adeyemi, B. M.Information Commons has in recent times made a sudden, dramatic and wide spread appearance in academic and research libraries in the developed countries. Despite its high potential to boost scholarship, improve research quality and enhance library patronage, information commons is not in Nigerian academic library presently. This paper focus the prospects and challenges of implementing information commons in Nigerian academic libraries. As the seeking patterns and expectations of users continued to be tremendously influenced by innovations in ICT, creation of Information Commons would improve service delivery to patrons. The paper identified inhibiting factors that would challenge the adoption and creation of information commons in libraries. These include inadequate funding, poor literacy skills of staff, poor broadband access, weak ICT policy plan and weak institutional support. Considering the prospects of implementing information commons, Nigerian academic libraries were admonished to start working towards creating information commons to increase library patronage.Item Use of library resources and services by science faculty members, University of Ibadan: a case study(Nigerian Library Association Cross River State Chapter, 2014) Adeyemi, B. M.; Fabunmi, B. A.This study investigated the use of library resources by the lecturers in the Faculty of Science, University of Ibadan. Six research questions were formulated to guide the study. The descriptive survey design was adopted in the study. The study population comprised the teaching staff in all the 11 departments in the Faculty of Science, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire. The findings of the study revealed that only 15.5% of the respondents visit the library frequently to use library resources. Expectedly the basic reasons for library use by the respondents were for research (70.6%) and teaching (36.6%). The extent of awareness of e-resources that are being provided by the library among the respondents was high (72.8%); however, only JSTOR was the most frequently used e-resources by the respondents (35.9%). It is recommended that the library should organize relevant sensitization programmes to increase the use of library and its resources by the respondents.Item External users in an academic libraries: a case study of Kenneth Dike Library (KDL)(African Educational Research Network, 2014-12) Adeyemi, B. M.Though the academic library’s primary mission is to serve the students, faculty and staff of its parent institution, would-be users not officially associated with the institution frequently call upon the library to provide services and/or resources. This paper attempts to examine the use of KDL resources/service by unaffiliated users, focusing on the user’s affiliation, status, subject areas and geographical distribution of the users with policy statement regarding the users. For this purpose, 352 user transaction request forms during the academic year 2012 were analyzed, out of which 243 (69 percent) are undergraduates, while 21(5.9 percent) are at PhD students. Users from the University community constitute 74.4 percent of external visitors to the library. The study revealed that Kenneth Dike Library supports the community use of its resources by granting access to unaffiliated users. The study therefore recommends among other things, that, access privileges must not interfere with the library’s service to its primary clientele of students, faculty and staff. Information concerning the library, particularly library use policy should be easily accessible to users who are not familiar with the library, and should be placed in strategic locations that are visible to users.Item Awareness and utilization of electronic databases collection by post-graduates students at Kenneth Dike Library, University of Ibadan: a case study(The Department of Library and Information Science, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Nigeria, 2014-06) Adeyemi, B. M.This study utilizes user’s study as a method for evaluating electronics databases collections at an institution with growing graduate research demands. The study focus group is the graduate students of the University of Ibadan with regards to their awareness, usability, and their feels about various issues surrounding the university electronic databases collections. The study employed descriptive survey research design using questionnaire to gather information from postgraduate students. Data was randomly collected from selected 200 post graduate students who visited the reference units of the main library and faculty libraries. Out of the 200 copies of questionnaire administered, 164 copies were returned representing 82% return rate. Findings indicate that the study group is aware of electronics databases in the library. It confirmed that 55.5 percent of PG students make use of the electronic databases daily for their research. AGORA and HINARI were the two mostly consulted by the respondents and lack of information literacy skills is an obstacle to the effective use of electronic database among post graduate students. Based on the findings of the study, it is recommended that creation of awareness among users about different electronics resources should be a priority for the university library management. Information retrieval skills training should be organized, at intervals, for users.Item Scholarly use of information for research by postgraduate students: the role of Kenneth Dike Library (KDL)(Academic Journals, 2013-09) Adeyemi, B. M.; Oluwabiyi, M.Research process is being focused upon by universities and colleges. An important element in the research process is the accessibility of information resources and services provided by libraries. Postgraduate students are one group of stakeholders in the universities. It is thus appropriate for academic libraries to re-examine how they can play a more relevant role in facilitating research. This study examines the views of postgraduate students on the role of the university library in helping them with their research and their satisfaction with the sources and services currently provided. The study adopted descriptive design and questionnaire was used to gather information from postgraduate students. Data were collected from 300 randomly selected postgraduate students from the university. They were analyzed with simple descriptive statistics. The findings show that the majority (55%) of respondents acknowledged the important role of library in facilitating research, while (48.2%) of the respondents were satisfied with the current role being played by the libraries. It is recommended that libraries need to create awareness among postgraduate students about the services and resources that are available and how to use them and academic libraries should be stocked with up-to-date materials in order to encourage researchers to use their facilities.Item Users’ perception of and satisfaction with library services: a case study of Kenneth Dike Library, University of Ibadan(Information and Knowledge Management Society, World Scientific, 2013) Adeyemi, B. M.; Fatoki, C. O.Academic libraries are facing challenges of competitive pressures, information availability, rising costs and a global digital environment. This situation calls for a better understanding of the specific needs of library users in order to provide the appropriate type and level of service that meets those needs. Assessment of service quality in libraries is one of the most reliable channels to know if clients are satisfied with services offered them. It is therefore imperative to investigate how library users perceive service quality. This paper examines the service quality and users’ satisfaction at Kenneth Dike Library, University of Ibadan and also examines how user surveys have been employed in a number of previously published literatures. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data for the study to evaluate the library’s performance by measuring the users’ satisfaction with (a) library services and resources (b) infrastructure/place/space and (c) suggestions for service improvement. The instrument was distributed randomly to a sample of 800 library users from the university. Suggestions are offered about ways library and information service providers could make more use of the information derived from their own and other organizations' user surveys to improve their services in order to survive.Item Twenty-four hour library services in Kenneth Dike Library: challenges and prospects(Pacific Northwest Library Association, 2013) Adeyemi, B.
