Item An evaluationof security issues in academic libraries: the case of Kenneth Dike Library, University of Ibadan(2012) Eguavoen, E. O. L.This study examined the security issues in academic libraries with particular reference to Kenneth Dike Library. The sample for this study includes 50 respondents comprising 15 professional librarians, 15 para-professionals and 20 non professional staff of the library. The study developed and utilized a 38 item questionnaire titled "Library Security Questionnaire (LSQ)" to elicit information from the respondents. Descriptive statistics was adopted using frequency counts and simple percentages in analyzing the data. The findings showed that theft and mutilation of library materials constitute a great security issue to the library system,training of staff on security issue is not adequate and that library staff in Kenneth Dike Library have a positive attitude toward the use and adoption of security systems to reduce theft and mutilation of library materials. Based on the findings it is recommended that proper stock taking exercise be carried out on monthly basis, porters as well as library assistants be trained regularly on security issues and that reprographic policies be reviewed as well as improved funding to install security systems to prevent theft and mutilation of library materials.Item An evaluation of risk management stratergies in academic libraries in Oyo State, Nigeira(Nigerian Library Association, Cross River State Chapter, 2012) Adeyemi, B. M.; Eguavoen, E. O. L.This study investigated the risks and risk management strategies adopted in selected academic libraries in Oyo state. A structured questionnaire was developed to elicit information from 60 respondents selected randomly from four academic libraries in the state. The study sought to provide answers to four research questions raised. Simple percentages were used to analyze the data obtained. The findings showed that fire outbreak, building collapse,flooding as well as risks associated with users top the list of risk factors and that risk management policies were not adequately provided in the surveyed libraries. Based on the findings, recommendations were mae that risk management be incorporated into the strategic and operational planning processes at all levels of academic libraries and that risk assessments be conducted on all new equipment and facilities and that risks should be identified, reviewed and monitored on an ongoing basis at nominated levels within library system.Item The influence of reward and recognition programmes on librarian's motivation in academic libraries in Nigeia(The Department of Library and Information Science, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Nigeria, 2013) Eguavoen, E. O. L.This study highlighted " the influence of reward and recognition programs on librarian's motivation in academic libraries in Nigeria". The study was conducted from October till December;2011. The sample chosen for the study was 80 librarians selected from five academic librarians in Oyo State. The facotrs affecting librarian's motivation were identified; payment (0.86**),promotion(0.74**),working condition(0.61**),personal (0.37*) as analysis showed immense support for positive relationship between reward and librarian's motivation.All these result are statistically significant thus providing rigor and generalization in research. This exploratory study therefore suggests for the positive relationship between reward and statifaction..Item Attitudes of librarians to cataloguing and classification of library materials in Nigerian academic libraries(International Library Movement(ILM) Foundation, 2011) Eguavoen, E. O. L.Item Cataloguing backlogs in academic libraries:a case study of some selected universities in Nigeria.(2010) Eguavoen, E. O. L.This study investigated the extent of cataloguing backlogs in academic libraries as well as the causes and remedies towards having a lasting solution to backlogs in academic libraries. A survey research design was employed for this study. The study population includes fifty cataloguers selected from ten academic libraries in Nigerian universities. A Cataloguing Backlog Assessment Questionnaire (CBAQ) was developed to elicit information from respondents and chi square statistical method was used in analyzing the data at 0.05 significance level. The result showed that there was no statistical significance in the size of backlog and volumes of acquisitions, level of automation as well as staff capacity. Based on these outcomes, recommendations were made that more librarians be involved in cataloguing processes and cataloguers with weak subject background be made to specialize in areas in which he or she is very strong, Universities increase budgetary allocations to libraries to enhance library automation and that para-professionals be trained to get involved in the cataloguing process.Item A survey of library equipments in academic libraries in Ibadan, Oyo State(2012) Eguavoen, E. O. L.This study investigated the availability of library and equipment tools used in selected academic libraries in Ibadan, Nigeria. A structured questionnaire was developed to elicit information from the personnel of the selected libraries on the equipments and tools available in their respective libraries. The data were collated, analyzed and interpreted based on standard statistical method. The results of the study revealed that equipment in academic libraries in Ibadan were grossly inadequate for processing and information services, that the relationship between libraries size and equipments available in academic libraries is not statistically significant and that staff output is affected by equipment availability. This was found to be as a result of inadequate funding, poor infrastructural facilities and more attention given to ICT facilities by most of the libraries. Based on the outcome of the study, it was recommended that adequate funds be made available to the libraries to procure library equipment on regular basis and that staff productivity be enhanced by adequate provisions of tools and equipment.Item Perception of Fresh undergraduate students to library and information services in academic libraries: case study of university of Ibadan(2011) Eguavoen, E. O. L.This survey examined the perception of users to library and information services in academic libraries. A structured questinnaire was developed and validated to elicit information from 300 sample population selected to reflect the entirety of the case study. Four hypotheses were developed and tested using chi square statistical methods at 0.05 significance level. The findings showed that inadequate communication between the library and its users as well as inability of the academic libraries to acquire relevant infrastructures and update thier libraries with current information were all factors responsible for the ways users perceive the services offered by the academic libraries.
