Item Theses information system of the postgraduate school, university of Ibadan(Department of Educational Management, University of Ibadan, 1997-12) Fabunmi, B. A.This study analysed the existing theses information storage and retrieval system of the Postgraduate School, University of Ibadan during the period of study (1994-96). It examined the factors that affected the effectiveness and efficiency of the system and with the intention of deriving some guidance for the design of an efficient theses information storage and retrieval system for the Postgraduate School. A computerized information system was found to be more suitable than the manual information system, as it was more efficient, and hence was recommended for use.Item Information technology: an erosion of cataloguing and classification practices?(1998-06) Ola, C. O.; Adeyemi, B. M.The gradual metamorphosis of information handling techniques from the era of book arrangement according to weight, length/size, colour, etc. to the informatised epoch is explored. TINLIB software has been made the paradigm in the study and analysis of the impact of Information Technology on Library Management Packages. There has been a progression in the system of managing information in Nigeria, albeit only minimal. The information handling mechanism has also crawled-up to a level where cataloguers, classifiers and indexers need a re-orientation to be able to cope with the on-going universal informatisation of society.Item The effect of climate on the seasonal activity and abundance of Amblyomma Variegatumn (fabricus,1794) (acarina:ixodidae)(University of Ibadan, 1996) Ekpenyong, G. D.Amblyomma variegatum (fabricus,1794) (acarina:Ixodidae) is a tropical tick found in all the ecological sones of Nigeria. It parasitises all livestock, but is most common on cattle of the zebu type. A variegatum is a 3-host tick. In Nigeria, cattle are reared in the savannah zone of northern Nigeria and only brought down to the south (forest zone) where Ibadan is located, to be slaughtered for food. Cattle are not reared in the south becuase of the adverse effect of Glossina sp. on them. In Ibadan there is only one rainy season per year and this period coincides with the high incidence of A. variegatum adult females on trade cattle during the rains. In this study, it was observed that climatic factors such as rainfall, temperature, humidity and sunshine affect the seasonal appearance of the adults, larvae and nymphs of A. variegatum on trade cattle.Item Computer technology and information retrieval in Nigeria(Journal of the African society for the psychological study of social issues, 1994-09) Ekpenyong, G. D.Computer technology, though still advancing in developed countries, is still in its infancy in Nigeria. The benefits of this technology are highlighted and its potential as a fast and easy way of communication globally is undiputed. How can Nigeria benefit from this technology? Some of the problems of introducing this new technology and actually making it work are discussed.Item Automating a large library in Nigeria: the story so far(1997) Ekpenyong, G. D.The University of Ibadan library is the first largest library to automate its library services in Nigeria. It is now a focal point for library automation in the country. Highlights the span of library automation in this library and also reflects the impact of the world bank book project started in 1991 in research and teaching in the university.Item Laboratory studies of the life cycle and behaviour of Amblyomma Variegatum (Fabricus,1794) (Acarina:ixodidae)(1990) Ekpenyong, G. D.Amblyomma variegatum is a 3-host tick parasitising livestock in Nigeria. It is of great economic importance because it is a known vector of disease-causing microorganisms, such as Dermatophilus congolensis, Theileria mutans and cowdria ruminatium. It has a long life cycle which in the laboratory at 25 °C and the relative humidity of 85% lasts 160-200 days. It was observed that the longest developmental period occurred at the egg stage(eggs are laid on the ground). This makes this stage the most vulnerable, considering that they are the ones more exposed to climatic and enviromental hazards.Item Experimental Infestation of rabbits with Amblyomma Variegatum larvae:host effects on larval yield, engorged weight and engorgement period.(1990) Ekpenyong, G. D.Rabbits infested Amblyomma variegatum larvae were not able to acguire a resistance which effectively inhibited their feeding. There was no significant diiference in "larval yeild",engrogement period of the larvae harvested from the primary, secondary and tertiary infestations. While enviromental tempreture had a marked influence on the "larval yeild", engorged weight and engorgement period of the larvae, the sex of the rabbits did not affect them.Item Studies on bacterial association with Amblyomma variegatum (Fabricius, 1974) (Acarina: Ixodidae)(University of Ibadan, 1990) Ekpenyong, G. D.; Akinboade, O. A.Amblyomma variegatum, a haematophagus estoparasitic arthropod, is a known vector of several protozoan, bacterial, rickettsial and viral parasites of livestock. Being a 3-host tick , the larvae, nymphs and adults are active in transmitting these microorganisms. In this study, four bacteria Staphylococcus pyogenes, Enterobacter alvei, Escherichia coli and Klesbsiella rhinoscleromatis were isolated from the haemolymph of A variegatum detached from trade cattle. Staphylococcus pyogenes and Klebsiella rhinoscleromatis were found in the egg and larval extracts. It was observed that these two bacteria are transmitted transovarially by A. variegatum.Item Prospects for new information technology in Nigerian libraries(Jonathan Barker, 1991) Ekpenyong, G. D.Item The effect of economic recession on university libraries in Nigeria. The case of the Kenneth Dike Library.(Marjorie Brown, 1993) Ekpenyong, G. D.
