O.; Adeyemi, B. M.The gradual metamorphosis of information handling techniques from the era of book arrangement according to weight, length/size, colour, etc. to the informatised epoch is explored. TINLIB software has been made the paradigm in the study and analysis of the impact of Information Technology on Library Management Packages. There has been a progression in the system of managing information in Nigeria, albeit only minimal. The information handling mechanism has also crawled-up to a level where cataloguers, classifiers and indexers need a re-orientation to be able to cope with the on-going universal informatisation of society.Item The effect of climate on the seasonal activity and abundance of Amblyomma Variegatumn (fabricus,1794) (acarina:ixodidae)(University of Ibadan, 1996) Ekpenyong, G. D.Amblyomma variegatum (fabricus,1794) (acarina:Ixodidae) is a tropical tick found in all the ecological sones of Nigeria. It parasitises all livestock, but is most common on cattle of the zebu type. A variegatum is a 3-host tick. In Nigeria, cattle are reared in the savannah zone of northern Nigeria and only brought down to the south (forest zone) where Ibadan is located, to be slaughtered for food. Cattle are not reared in the south becuase of the adverse effect of Glossina sp. on them. In Ibadan there is only one rainy season per year and this period coincides with the high incidence of A. variegatum adult females on trade cattle during the rains. In this study, it was observed that climatic factors such as rainfall, temperature, humidity and sunshine affect the seasonal appearance of the adults, larvae and nymphs of A. variegatum on trade cattle.Item Computer technology and information retrieval in Nigeria(Journal of the African society for the psychological study of social issues, 1994-09) Ekpenyong, G. D.Computer technology, though still advancing in developed countries, is still in its infancy in Nigeria. The benefits of this technology are highlighted and its potential as a fast and easy way of communication globally is undiputed. How can Nigeria benefit from this technology? Some of the problems of introducing this new technology and actually making it work are discussed.Item Festivals in Nigeria: a bibliography(The department of culture, Federal Ministry of Youth, sports and culture, P.M. B 12524, Lagos, 1981) Ekpenyong, G. D.or national awareness for the revival of our cultural heritage. It is hoped that Nigerians and aliens resident in Nigeria, researchers in African studies, would find this publication a guide to a better knowledge of the cultural heritage and diversity of the peoples of Nigeira. It is necessary to emphasise, however that although this is a pioneering effort to record all the known and unknown traditional festivals held annually or in some cases, after a long interval of time, this bibliography is by no means exhaustive.Item Card catalogue expansion in Ibadan university library(National library of Nigeria, 1980-01-01) Ekpenyong, G. D.Amblyomma variegatum is a 3-host tick parasitising livestock in Nigeria. It is of great economic importance because it is a known vector of disease-causing microorganisms, such as Dermatophilus congolensis, Theileria mutans and cowdria ruminatium. It has a long life cycle which in the laboratory at 25 °C and the relative humidity of 85% lasts 160-200 days. It was observed that the longest developmental period occurred at the egg stage(eggs are laid on the ground). This makes this stage the most vulnerable, considering that they are the ones more exposed to climatic and enviromental hazards.
