Item The adoption and utilization of information and communication technology for the preservation and conservation of serial Publication in Lautech Medical Library and Lautech Teaching Hospital Library, Osogbo(2019) Adeoye, M. O.The research was conducted to determine the adoption and utilization of ICT for Preservation and Conservation of serial publications in LAUTECH Medical Library and Lautech Teaching Hospital Library Osogbo. Four research questions were raised for this study. The research design used for this study is descriptive survey, the population of the study which constituted all library staff in these libraries were 35. Total population sampling method was employed in this study. The results were collated and analyzed using tables and percentages. It concludes that despite the low use of ICT for the serials functions, it has been shown to reduce the rigor in serials publication; ease of selection, acquisition and processing difficulties. Generally it has helped to reduce serials function and reduced the cost for acquiring serials. The work recommended that: university library funding bodies should provide adequate resources to libraries to enable them procure ICT facilities which have been proved to enhance serials accessibility; libraries which are .not using ICT facilities for serials functions should be encouraged to reposition their stand in order to provide the state of the art operations and services required by the present day serials users; and curriculum for library trainees should be expanded to accommodate the findings of this work.Item Use of ICT for securing libraries and information resources against vandalism in university libraries in the era of global insecurity(Tim-Sal & Bim Publishing Ltd., 2020) Omoike, A. D.; Ikegune., D. O.Vandalism of library and information resources is an international problem as well as a historical one that affects all type of libraries. Therefore, the use of ICT for securing libraries and information resources is inevitable. ICT is the only means of securing library resources in the era of global insecurity. Security of libraries and information resources becomes a concern for the modem well equipped libraries. The application of ICT in the library will help in providing quality services by the librarians through the Internet to users as information will be processed and communicated to users to meet their information needs without delay. The methods for securing libraries and information resources against vandalism in the era of global insecurity are through digitization of information resources, electromagnetic and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), video surveillance and closed- circuit television (CCTV) systems in the library as means to deter crime and ensure safety of information resources in the library. Meanwhile, Lack of fund, poor policies and procedures, natural disasters such as earthquake, flood, fire, storm among others serve are causes of vandalism of library materials. It was therefore, recommended that government should assist the University in providing sufficient funds to install modem security systems to prevent vandalism in the library.Item Marketing of information products and services in public libraries in South West, Nigeria(Academic Journals, 2018-07) Kutu, J. O.; Olajide, O.The study examines the marketing of information products and services in public libraries in South West, Nigeria. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. The population comprises professionals and library officers. Questionnaire was used as means of data collection. The sections consist of A and B. Section A dwells on the socio-economic variables of the respondent, Section B consist on availability of information products and services as well as marketing and promotional strategies adopted by the libraries. One hundred and thirty copies of questionnaires were administered and data analysed. The study reveals that the public libraries in South West market their information products and services and also shows that lending of materials, user education, school services, referral services are highly available. Quick and long queries, adult literacy programmes, reading list and bibliographies, indexing and abstracting among others were available whereas translation services, rental of premises and CD-ROM services are not available. Findings on promotional strategies for marketing information products and services reveals that majority agreed with display and exhibition as well as creation of conducive environment as the type of promotional strategies adopted in the public library boards studied. On the marketing management strategies adopted, the study reveals that respect to users along with paying attention to users rated highest as the commonest marketing practice among the studied public library boards. Based on the findings, it is concluded that marketing of information products and services by the libraries has a lot to do towards entrenching marketing principles and practices.
