A.This paper delves into the impact of rising living costs on older women, using empirical evidence and theoretical frameworks to elucidate the complex ramifications of financial strain. Aged women are chosen for examination due to their vulnerability to economic hardships, stemming from fixed incomes and increased healthcare needs. The study aims to illuminate the specific challenges faced by elderly women amidst economic turbulence, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding their welfare for societal stability. It highlights the significance of addressing the welfare concerns of elderly women within the context of escalating living expenses, emphasizing tailored interventions to protect their well-being. The rising cost of living is characterized by a persistent increase in the prices of essential goods and services, dri ven by factors such as inflation and currency devaluation. This phenomenon affects elderly women in various ways, including financial distress and limited access to healthcare. Direct consequences include heightened economic adversity and decreased purchasing power, while indirect effects extend to the broader population through disrupted family dynamics and strained support systems. Recommendations for mitigating these impacts include targeted social welfare initiatives and enhanced healthcare access, with anticipated benefits including improved financial stability and social integration for elderly women, ultimately contributing to a more equitable and resilient societyItem Influence of intimate partner violence on the well-being of adults in ibadan metropolis(COUNSELLING ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA, 2024) Fatoye, H. A.; Fatunbi, B. S.Intimate partner violence (IPV) is indeed a significant issue affecting various demographics, including adolescents. IPV encompasses any behavior within an intimate relationship that causes physical, emotional, or sexual harm to the individuals involved. The study employs a descriptive research design of correlational study. The study targets adults within Ibadan metropolis. A multi-stage sampling technique is employed, starting with purposive sampling of local Government Area, followed by random selection of 200 male and female adults. The findings of the study revealed that there is a significant positive relationship between intimate partner violence (IPV) and the physical well-being, evidenced by a correlation coefficient (r=.479, p-value <0.05). Hypothesis two revealed that a significant positive relationship between intimate partner violence (IPV) and the psychological well-being, with a correlation coefficient (r=.631, p-value <0.05. Hypothesis three revealed that positive correlation between intimate partner violence (IPV) and the social well-being, with a correlation coefficient (r= .562, p-value <0.05). The study concludes that Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) significantly impacts the overall well-being of adults, affecting them physically, psychologically, and socially. The study recommend to incorporate IPV screening and intervention into regular healthcare services and also train healthcare professionals to identify and respond effectively to IPV. Finally, ensure access to thorough medical care for both immediate injuries and long-term health impacts of IPV.Item Financial and non-financial as welfare incentives on job satisfaction among public secondary school teachers in Oyo, Oyo State, Nigeria(2024) Fatoye, H. A.; Adewole, A. AThis study examined financial and nonfinancial as welfare incentives on job satisfaction among public secondary school teachers. This study utilized a descriptive research design while a simple sampling technique was used to select 225 public secondary school teachers. A self-constructed instrument was used to gather relevant data. Three research hypotheses were formulated while Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to analyze the hypotheses. Findings revealed that there is shows that there is significant relationship between financial and job satisfaction among public secondary school teachers in Afijio local government area (r = .0.621, n=255, p (.013) <.05), there is a significant relationship between significant relationship between nonfinancial incentives and job satisfaction among public secondary school teachers in Afijio local government area (r = .210, n=255, p (.036) <.05). Furthermore, there is a joint significant relationship between financial/ nonfinancial incentives and job satisfaction among public secondary school teachers in Afijio local government area. The study concluded that financial and nonfinancial incentives significantly influenced job satisfaction among teachers. Therefore, it was recommended among others that education stakeholder should make use of both financial and nonfinancial incentives to improve the organization productivity and job satisfaction.Item Victimology and psychosocial well-being of the elderly in Iwaya community(2019) Fatoye, H. A.Victimology is an infrequently discussed social phenomenon in Nigeria despite its prevalence and grave social implications. Nigerian government does not provide social security for the elderly and the support from the family is fading out, leading to kidnap and abuse of elders. The study examined the relationship between Victimology and psycho-social wellbeing of elders in Iwaya community, Lagos State. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive and t-test at P value 0.5. The findings revealed that kidnapping and abuse of elders were more experienced outside Lagos State (14.7%) than other places such as within neighbourhood (8%), outside neighbourhood (6.7%), and outside the country' (7.3%). The value of X2 at the .05 level of significance with 1 degree of freedom was 3.841. The computed value of 2.227a was smaller and within the critical value range of 3.841. The null hypothesis that there is no significant relationship between kidnapping of elders and their psychosocial wellbeing was accepted. The value of X2 at 0.5 level of significance with 1-degree freedom was 3.841. Computed value of 4.313a was greater than the critical value of 3.841. The null hypothesis that there is no significant relationship between mistreatment and their psychosocial wellbeing was rejected. Results suggest possible factors such as poor quality of education, high level of poverty, lack of value for hard-work and indiscipline are causes of crime, thus negatively affecting security of lives and properties. Government should address security lapses by providing the security agencies with necessary facilities and environment conducive to combating crime in NigeriaItem Family support system as a predictor of psychological well- being of the elderly in Ibadan metropolis, Oyo State(2020) Fatoye, H. A.The study examined the family support System as a predictor of psychological well-being among the elderly in Ibadan Metropolis. Descriptive research design of the ex-post-facto type was used. A multi-stage sampling technique was used to select 180 aged respondents from 60 years and above from five local government areas in Ibadan Metropolis. Two research hypotheses were tested al 0.05 level of significance. Data were analyzed using t-test. Results indicated that aged people with low family support experienced higher anxiety level than their counterparts that received high family support. (t = 2.61, df = 178). Furthermore, aged people with low family support experienced higher depression level than their contemporaries with high family support (t =3.89, df = 178). It was recommended that government should provide free monthly medical check-up far the aged with particular focus on their mental and psychological health statusItem Family support and jail duration as correlates of recidivism among prison inmates of Agodi prison in Nigeria(Department of Social Work University of Ibadan, Nigeria, 2018-06) Fatoye, H. A.; Bakare, M. A.; OyeIeke, A. I.Re-offending is one of the major problems with ex- convicts and researches have been conducted to ascertain causes of re-offending among ex -offenders. Evidence is still needed on the influence of family support and jail duration on reoffending among ex prison inmates in Nigeria. The sample for this study is 200 (Two hundred) respondents who were purposively selected in a cross sectional survey among other inmates at Agodi prison. Results reveal that there is a significant inverse relationship between family support and criminal intent (r = -.32, p<0l), family support, family relationship quality and partner support jointly predicted criminal intent (R2 = 0.13, F (3,245) = 11.79, p < .01). The results further reveal that there is significant effect of length of sentence on criminal intent (F (3,246) = 6.57, p<.001), inmates with awaiting trial (short sentence) reported high criminal intent than awaiting trial. A.The observation of a rise in separation cases raises a major concern of its effect on children at this particular developmental stage of life who are already facing very many changes happening in their life. Few studies have examined the effect of parental separation on psychosocial well-being of children among in-school teenagers in Nigeria. This study aimed to add to this body of literature by examining the effect of parental separation on social, spiritual, intellectual, psychosocial well-being on in-school teenagers in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State, Nigeria. The study adopted cross-sectional research design involving a sample of 400 in-school students in the study area using an adapted standardized validated instrument. Among other findings, it found a significant inverse relationship parental separation and psychosocial wellbeing among teenagers in Ibadan North LGA and almost half (42.4%) of the respondents who have separated parents have known about it for more ten years. This implies a teenagers who have the separated parents are more likely to experience ill-health psychosocially and these may also transcend to their intellectual well- being. Among others, policy makers should enact policy that mandate schools on the concurrent: assessment of students’ socio-demographics especially their parental status, their relationship and living condition periodically to continually evaluate social well-being, emotional well-being, and spiritual well-being. A.; Oyeleke, A. I.Cooperative societies are noted for addressing members ’ social and economic needs, but they are yet to channel their resources towards meeting members ’ health care needs. This study investigated the role of cooperative societies in accessing health care Services for poor urban members in Ibadan metropolis, Oyo State, Nigeria. Cross-sectional survey was conducted among 480 members of cooperative societies in Ibadan metropolis using a semi-structured questionnaire and Key Informants Interviews consisting of three (3) presidents of the organization. Face validity was employed for the questionnaire and internal consistency reliability was determined. Purposive sampling technique was used in selecting respondents and participants for the study. Triangulation technique was adopted in which descriptive statistic was used to measure the perceived effectiveness of cooperative society in members ’ health care and thematic approach used to analyse the qualitative data. Result reveals that members of cooperatives are all interested and are looking forward to when health care scheme will be introduced to the` activities of cooperative society. A.This study examines social support and quality of life among the aged in Ibadan metropolis. It adopted a descriptive research design.
