V.The study assessed NYSC's Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme (SAED) on the entrepreneurial development of ex-corp members that served between 2015 and 2020. In this study, three research questions were posed and addressed. This study adopted a survey research design. 250 masters' students that have undergone NYSC were randomly selected at the University of Ibadan. Three validated instruments were used to collect data for the study: NYSC's Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme Scale (ANYSCSAEDPS) (r = 0.76), Benefits and Challenges of NYSC's Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Questionnaire (BNYSCSAEQ) (r = 0.84). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts, percentages, mean and standard deviation. The findings revealed that majority of the ex-corp members during NYSC's (SAED) Programme were exposed to educational skills, tourism and cosmetology, while few were exposed to horticulture and landscaping 15 (5.6 percent), power and energy 14 (9.6%), and automobile 8 (3.2 percent). The study also revealed that SAED was beneficial and very good for youth empowerment. It can therefore, be concluded that the SAED programme is beneficial to graduates' empowerment and the reduction of unemployment among youths, although its contribution to the development of entrepreneurial skills was not adequate enough due to some challenges facing its implementation. Consequently, the government should devote more attention to the programme by making resources available for its smooth implementation. Corps members should be re-oriented on the benefits of participating in SAED through their commitments when enlisting for entrepreneurship training during service, among other things.Item Economics pre-service teachers’ knowledge and practices of reflective teaching as predictors of teaching skills in Ibadan(2021) Gbadamosi, T. V.The study investigated pre-service Economics teachers’ knowledge, perception, and practices of reflective teaching as predictors of teaching skills. The study adopted an ex-post facto design. All Economics pre-service teachers in the University of Ibadan, Ibadan Oyo State, Nigeria were the population. Purposive sampling was used to select departments offering Economics as their teaching subject. In all, a total of Forty-five (45) pre-service teachers participated in the study. Four validated research instruments: Knowledge of Reflective Teaching Test (KRTT) (K-R20=0.87), Pre-service Teacher’s Use of Reflective Practice Questionnaire-PTURPQ (α=0.79), and Teacher’s Classroom Practice Observational Rating Scale (TCPORS) (T=0.770); and Instructional guide for observers (IGO) were used to collect data for this study. The data collected were analysed using Multiple Regression Analysis. Findings of the study revealed that majority of the pre-service Economics teachers had moderate knowledge of reflective teaching, few had low knowledge of reflective teaching and very few had high knowledge of reflective teaching. Also, pre-service teachers’ teaching skills were not significantly affected by knowledge of reflective teaching. The result also revealed that many of the pre-service teachers used reflective teaching occasionally. There was high positive correlation between pre-service teachers’ practice of reflective teaching and teaching skills. V.; Jacob, U. S.; Pillay. J.This study examined service learning as an effective strategy for implementation of the Economics curriculum for result-oriented university education. The study was guided by two research questions, adopted a qualitative research approach and utilised phenomenology design. A purposive sampling technique was used to select all students from the departments of Educational Management, Arts and Social Sciences Education, Adult Education, Guidance and Counselling Education, and Special Education who had taken Economics Methods. The reason for the selection of the students was that they had participated in service learning and would be able to provide answers to the research questions. Focus group discussion and key informant interview guides were used to collect data from the participants. The ATLAS. Qualitative software package was used to analyse the data. The findings of the study revealed that service learning was an effective strategy for preparing pre-service teachers for the world of work as it gives undergraduates an opportunity to get involved in communal services such as tutoring, advocacy, and environmental sustainability, among others. It also enhances students’ employability skills, such as financial literacy, project management, teamwork, and resourcefulness. It was therefore recommended that service learning should be infused into the teacher education curriculum for effective implementation of the economics curriculum and to promote undergraduate employability skills.Item Promoting digital technology for labour leaders training in Nigeria: issues and perspectives(2022-06) Akinyooye, F. E.Labour union leaders are very important to the success of any union activities. The labour leaders are expected to drive their members towards the achievement of the various goals set by the union. These leaders therefore need the necessary leadership skills to enable them lead effectively. Hence, the need for regular training programs to equip them with adequate skills such as. empathy, communication, problem solving, creativity, interpersonal and team work. However, such regular training programmes aimed at equipping, building and enhancing union leaders’ capacity may not be possible due to constraints like time and finance. The break out of COVID-19 which ravaged the whole world has also served as a deterrent to physical training or gathering of people in large numbers. In order to overcome these barriers, there is a call to promote digital industrial training programmes for the labour leaders through the principles of Adult Education. This paper examined the rationale and perspectives for promoting digital industrial training programmes among labour union leaders in Nigeria.Item Perception of influence of digital technology on occupational health safety training among academic staff in Nigerian universities(Educational Assessment and Research Network in Africa (EARNiA), 2021-06) Akinyooye, F. E.Academic are busy to participate in physical OHS training because of many engagements with their students, administrative work and community service. As a result, they hardly find time to give proper attention to germane issues as their safety and health. This then calls for the use of digital technology to organise OHS training as it is expected to help these busy group of people incorporate the training alongside their busy schedule. The study examined the perceived influence of digital technology on occupational health safety training among academic staff in Nigerian universities. Five specific objectives with corresponding research questions were achieved and answered. Descriptive survey research design was employed and convenience sampling technique through on-line questionnaire was used to obtain information from the targeted respondents. One hundred well filled on-line surveys were analysed with the aid of descriptive statistics. The empirical findings indicated that the respondents expressed adequate knowledge about the occupation health hazard associated with their profession but had low exposure to the application of digital technology such as 3D visualization and Virtual Reality (VR). The study revealed that the digital technology influenced Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) training, but the academic staff encountered hindrances with the use of digital technology training for OHS training. It is concluded that digital technology played a vital role towards OHS training and there is a need for regular capacity programmes using digital technology tools which aimed at helping management to address OHS needs of academic staff.Item Influence of entrepreneurship training programmes on unemployed young adults of Ibadan metropolis in Oyo state, Nigeria(Department of Adult and Primary Education, University of Ilorin, 2021) Akinyooye, F. E.; Fajimi, B. A.This study explored the practice of industrial relations in Nigeria during the military regime era and civilian government era. It drew a comparison between the eras to determine the impact of the power dynamics and relationships between the government and labour unions on Nigeria's industrial relations theory and practice. The study relied on the documentary method and obtained secondary sources data from a review of journals, textbooks, and official publications to examine the impacts of these two eras on industrial relations practice by diagnosing their involvement, intervention, and interference in labour union movements in the country. As the largest employer of labour, the government was more than the employer in the power dynamics of industrial relations practice. The industrial relations system evolved in an environment of government involvement, intervention, and interference, whether it was the military or civilian government in power. Consequently, the industrial relations practice in Nigeria has not been able to represent the management of institutionalized relationships in the social system to promote harmonious industrial co-existence between principal actors: government and labour unions. The study suggested that the government should serve as regulators in the industrial relations systems to manage institutionalized relationships through policies and evolve self-governing mechanisms devoid of interference for harmonious mutual co-existence with labour unions for stability in the policy and economic posterity in Nigeria.
