    Empowering female teachers through health literacy, reproductive health and lifestyle modifications in Osun State, Nigeria

    The study investigated nexus among health literacy, reproductive health and lifestyle modifications among women of reproductive age in teaching profession in Osun State, Nigeria. Purposive and simple random sampling techniques were employed to selected one-hundred and eighty-six teachers. A self-designed instrument was used to elicit information from the participants. Both descriptive and inferential statistical tools were explored to analyse the generated data. The findings of the research demonstrated a moderate positive association between health literacy and reproductive health of women of reproductive age in teaching profession. The study further revealed a significant relationship between lifestyle modifications and reproductive health among women of reproductive age in the teaching profession. The findings indicated that the top strategies included simplifying health information using plain language, providing training for healthcare providers, and using visual aids like diagrams, pictures, and videos. Other notable strategies included offering reproductive health services and counselling, providing access to accurate information, and promoting physical activity, healthy eating habits, stress management, and healthy sleep habits. The study concluded that health literacy, reproductive health and lifestyle modifications of women of reproductive age go a long way in enhancing their well-being and overall effectiveness in teaching profession. Policymakers and health educators should promote and support lifestyle modification programs that empower women teachers to make informed choices about their reproductive health.

    Integration of artificial intelligence in industrial education: a review of current trends and future directions

    Digital revolution and the resultant emergence of Industry 4.0 has driven the incorporation of Artificial intelligence (AI) in Industrial education to enhance skills development in the industry. However, there is a lack of adequate empirical evidence on the integration of Artificial intelligence in industrial education. To fill this gap, this study reviewed previous studies on the adoption of AI in Industrial education and examined the frequency of occurrence of variables obtained in the studies reviewed. Relevant literature was screened and reviewed to find empirical evidence to support findings. A systematic review of 14 studies provided insights into the current applications, benefit and challenges of AI integration in industrial education. The study found that the most cited applications of AI is Adaptive and personalized learning systems, which customise workers/learners’ information based on their interaction with learning content. Other applications are augmented simulators for real-time feedback, virtual mentors, and intelligent tutoring systems which replicate real-life interaction with professionals among others. Majority of the studies found increased engagement and improved learning outcomes and skills development as benefit of AI integration in Industrial education. Other benefits are promotion of early identification of learning challenges and timely intervention and feedback, improvement in administrative efficiency and support, personalisation of learning. Notable challenges were skills and capacity gaps, lack of infrastructure and AI resources, curriculum issues and difficulty in integrating AI into current curriculum, ethical and privacy concerns among others. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that the skill gap should be filled with training in AI applications and use, investment in AI infrastructural development should be explored, industry collaboration and partnership in the area of needs should be considered, AI marketing and literacy should be adopted in industries, all AI intervention should be a continuing and lifelong process to ensure sustainability.

    The economics of health and agency: analysing the impact of women's economic empowerment on reproductive health outcomes in Oyo State, Nigeria

    This study used a cross-sectional quantitative survey design. Two randomly selected Local Government Areas (LGA) are Egbeda and Ibadan North East. The study population was women of reproductive age. Amartya Kumar Sen’s Capability Approach provided the framework. A five stage sampling technique was adopted for the selection of these women. Utilising a structured questionnaire administered to 233 women across Oyo State, the research explores the types of reproductive health services accessed, perceived barriers, and the relationship between economic autonomy and ealth outcomes. Findings reveal that maternal care (88.8%), delivery services (82.0%), postnatal care (81.5%), and family planning (79.8%) are the most commonly accessed services, indicating strong engagement with maternal and preventive health care. Despite positive perceptions of access, particularly regarding confidentiality (mean = 3.55) and affordability (mean = 3.37) some gaps persist, especially in service availability during convenient hours (mean = 3.07) and regular health information dissemination (mean = 2.93). Women reported high levels of economic empowerment, with strong agreement on heir ability to work or run businesses (mean = 3.55) and access to financial resources (mean = 3.60). A significant positive relationship was found between women’s economic empowerment and access to reproductive health services (r = .708, p < .001), especially in areas such as family planning and reproductive health education, which enhance productivity and business opportunities. Barriers to empowerment and health access were linked to cultural, social, policy, and financial factors. Respondents strongly supported strategies such as increased government funding (mean = 3.90), policy integration (mean = 3.88), and community engagement, particularly involving men and traditional leaders. The study concludes that strengthening the link between reproductive health and economic empowerment through policy reform, education, and inclusive community strategies is essential for advancing women’s wellbeing and economic growth in Oyo State. The government should prioritise the integration of reproductive health and women’s economic empowerment into national and state-level development policies.

    The impact of digital technologies, recreation, and nutrition on stress management and mental well-being in athletes

    Stress is a natural human experience that depending on its severity and duration, it can have both positive (eustress) and negative (distress) effects. Chronic and unmanaged stress has a negative impact on social mental and physical health whereas moderate stress may improve motivation and adaptability. A comprehensive strategy combining biological, psychological and social techniques is needed for effective stress management. While social support, resilience and psychological relief are all facilitated by recreational activities, stress responses, cognitive function, and emotional equilibrium are significantly influenced by nutrition. Digital interventions have also become widely available and scalable tools for stress management, prevention and monitoring. An integrative review of major database and other sources were conducted. The study included recent empirical, systematic, scoping, narrative reviews and other high-quality articles that is directly related to digital technologies, recreation, nutrition and mental health outcomes in athletes. A total of 46 studies met the inclusion criteria. The review revealed that impact may be positive or negative depending on certain factors. Stress detection, monitoring, recovery management and resilience are enhanced through digital technologies. Recreational activities also improve resilience, regulates emotions, reduce anxiety, stress and depression. Adequate nutrition lowers stress, anxiety, depression and enhance better mental well-being in athletes with nutrition knowledge and positive dietary attitudes enhancing mental resilience. This paper delves into the combined impact of digital technologies, recreation, and nutrition on stress management and mental wellbeing in athletes with impact ranging from mental resilience to self-regulation, autonomy and motivation and social connections. Furthermore, the use of nutrition, recreation with digital technologies fosters cognitive and emotional regulation as well as personalisation and preventive wellbeing system. This study was also able to establish that the combination of digital strategies, recreational and health produce an impact in Athletes well being. When taken as a whole, these tactics highlight how crucial a comprehensive framework is for improving mental health and stress management, especially for athletes and other high-risk groups.

    Leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) for Stress management in peak athletic performance: an integrative review

    Athletes often experience stressors that can impede their performance and well-being. Lack of coping resource or poorly regulated stress can undermine physical output, decision making and well-being. Effective stress management is crucial for achieving peak performance. This paper synthesize evidence on stress management strategies in sports psychology as well as AI powered stress management strategies using an integrative approach. The findings are presented narratively and organised into emerging themes. These strategies are categorized into cognitive-behavioural strategies, mindfulness-based strategies, relaxation strategies, biofeedback and technology-based and social support, and team-based strategies. AI powered stress management strategies were classified in the study as; AI powered wearable monitoring, virtual therapy and chatbot counseling, predictive analytics for stress forecasting, AI guided biofeedback training, AI enhanced injury and recovery support, AI supported cognitive behavior training, and integration of AI with human support systems. The following benefits are derived from the integration of AI in stress management for athletes; Improved performance, enhanced well-being, continuous and objective stress monitoring, all round support for athletes, Injury prevention, early detection and intervention, personalized training and recovery, confidentiality and stigma reduction. Advances in AI for stress management should focus on refining AI-powered injury prevention models, improving biometric sensing capabilities, advancing edge AI for realtime data processing, and integrating wearables sweat analysis to provide feedback, among others. This paper recommends that multimodal, specific interventions should be integrated into regular athletic training, warm-up and recovery process of athletes in order to attain peak performance and enhance overall well-being. Also that a hybrid approach adopted by sport psychologist integrating AI to support stress management among athletes will lead to a faster and positive outcome in stress management.

    Predictors of female lecturers reproductive health behaviour in tertiary institutions in Nigeria

    Women reproductive health behaviour (RHB) has generated a lot of interest from researchers across many disciplines because of complications on women health generally. Previous studies on women's RHB had focused on various categories of women and teenagers leading to a gap in literature on women in the tertiary institutions. This study, therefore, examined the extent to which cultural norms/religious belief, peer influence and mass media exposure influenced the RHB of female lecturers in tertiary institutions in South western Nigeria. The survey research design was adopted. The purposive sampling technique was used to 540 academic workers from thirteen tertiary institutions in South western Nigeria. Two instruments were used: RHB Scale (r=0.81) and RHB Determinants Scale with sub-scales, cultural/religious belief (r-0.83), mass media (r=0.75), and peer influence (r=0.71). Three hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance to determine the RHB of female workers. Pearson product moment correlation and content analysis was used to analyse data collected through the questionnaire form the respondents. Seventy-five percent of respondents exhibited good RHB. Their significant strength of relationships with RHB was ranked: religious/cultural belief (r-0. .066,); mass media exposure (r=0.070), and peer influence (r=-0.602). Mass media exposure, cultural norms/religious belief and peer influence strongly predicted reproductive health behaviour of female lecturers in sampled tertiary institutions. Improvement in the reproductive health behaviour among tertiary institutions female lectures calls for government to encourage and motivate women having two or more children to adopt family planning through mass media messages

    Teachers' classroom practices and content knowledge as predictors of civic competence of senior secondary school students in Ibadan

    Abundant literature affirms students' low level of civic competence, especially ai the primary and junior secondary school levels. This study was embarked upon to determine teachers' classroom practices and content knowledge as predictors of senior secondary school students' civic competence (knowledge, disposition, and engagement) in Ibadan. Expo facto research design was adopted for the study with four hundred and fifty (450) students and fifteen (15) Civic Education teachers as participants. The instruments employed were Civic Education Teachers' Classroom Practices Observational Scale (CETCPOS), Measuring Guide for Teachers' Classroom Practices Observational Scale (MGTCPOS), Civic Education Teachers’ Content Knowledge Questions (CETCKQ), Students' Civic Knowledge Achievement Test (SKAT), Students' Civic Disposition Questionnaire (SCDQ), and Students' Civic Engagement Questionnaire (SCEQ). One major research question was raised and answered at 0.05 level of significance. Data were analyzed using mean and Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). The findings of the study revealed no correlation between students' civic competence and teachers' classroom practices and their civic knowledge. Improved teachers' knowledge in Civic Education and classroom practices were observed, although without effects on the civic competence of students. It was recommended that government, school administrators and parents' factors be subsequently studied, and that evaluation of Civic Education should include behavioural assessment.
