Item Knowledge, attitude and practice of cybercrime among secondary school students in Nigeria(Fafunwa Educational Foundations ( FEF) In Collaboration with The Faculty of Education, University of Lagos, Akoka-Yaba, Lagos, Nigeria, 2020-09) Olasunkanmi, I. A.; Adebayo, C. A.The Internet, which has opened a vast array of possibilities for the young and the old in the social, economic, education, health and other sectors, has been flawed by the rise in internet crimes regarded as unethical use of the computer and internet which could cripple the nation's economy if not given attention. These include cyber fraud (yahoo-yahoo), plagiarism, pornography, and piracy of software. Reports have shown that perpetrators of these cybercrimes have been assumed to be youths usually within the ages of 15 and 30 years. Despite various efforts put in place to address the menace it appears the unwanted practice still persists. It seems that youngsters enter into the practice ignorantly and with confused attitude to it. Therefore, this paper investigated students' awareness of computer ethics, knowledge, attitude to and practice of computer ethics among Junior Secondary School 3 students in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. The study is a descriptive survey design using with a total of eighty-five (85) participants. The results show that majority of the students were aware of the ethical and unethical use of the computer/internet, few of the respondents are very knowledgeable as regards computer ethics and they have a positive attitude towards computer ethics. Each of the respondents engages in more than two unethical ways of using the computer/internet. The paper concludes that secondary school students engage in unethical use of computer/ internet despite their awareness, knowledge and a show of positive attitude to ethical use of computer/internet. It is recommended that appropriate legal measures should be taken to curb the practice among secondary students in Nigeria.Item Pre-service teachers’ awareness and attitude towards user-generated content as a collaborative learning tool(2015-01) Adedoja, G. O.; Olasunkanmi, I. A.The promotion of learners’ active participation and becoming responsible for their own learning through the use of information communication technologies (ICT) is quite encouraging and exciting in the age of digital technologies. In particular, the Internet-based platforms and facilities that assist students in creating and sharing knowledge is becoming more popular today. This paper examined the University of Ibadan Pre-service teachers’ awareness and attitudinal disposition toward user-generated content as a collaborative learning tool with respect to their gender and teaching subject. The sample population comprised 78(42.2%) male and 107(57.82%) female 100 level students drawn from five departments where teaching subjects are offered in the Faculty of Education. A questionnaire containing students’ awareness and attitude scales (QPAAUGC), validated with Kuder Richardson 20 (reliability indices = 0.75 and 0.66 respectively) was administered to the participants. Two research questions and four hypotheses were raised and tested respectively in the study. The findings show that 63.3% of the students were aware of, and have positive attitude towards UGC. However, gender and teaching subject contributed significantly (t = 2.298, p<.05) and (F (J l82) = 13.020, p<0.05) to students’ level of awareness. Also, gender ana teaching subject contributed significantly (t g3 = 2.298, p<.05) and (F (2182) = 13.020, p<0.05) to students’ attitude to UGC as a collaborative learning tool. Premised on the findings, this paper highlights its recommendations and conclusions.Item Knowledge, Attitüde and Practice of Family Planning among Married Women in Akinyele Local Government, Oyo State, Nigeria(2021) Osu, U. C.The study examined knowledge, attitude and practice of family planning, among married women in Akinyele Local Government, Oyo State. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. A total of 143 respondents participated in the study. The instrument employed was “Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Family Planning, among Married Women Questionnaire”. The data collected from the study were analysed using simple percentage and mean to provide answers for the research questions raised for the study. Findings revealed that married women in Akinyele Local Government, Oyo State are aware of family planning (Mean= 2.99) but do not practice it (Mean=l .86). Findings further revealed that the married women in Akinyele Local Government, Oyo State portray negative attitude towards family planning (Mean=2.36). On this basis, the study recommended, among other things. that the government should endeavour to increase the level of awareness on the importance of family planning. ln addition, the mass media should also be encouraged to do more in terms of enlightening the public on the benefits of modern contraceptive methods as this will help married couples to portray positive attitude towards the use of family planningItem Path-Analytic Study of Students’ Home Background, Academic Motivation, Self-Concept on Attitude and Achievement in Senior Secondary School Mathematics in Ogun State, Nigeria(2010) Olusanmi, A. K.Mathematics is a fundamental subject which functions as a basic index for understanding and mastery of various aspects of science as well as the complexity of modern technology. Thus, every individual needs some knowledge of mathematics in order to live a useful life and be an effective member of the society. Several studies in the past have focused on the factors associated with students’ poor academic achievement in mathematics. However, very few of those have considered the influence of multiple indicators on students’ achievement in mathematics at the secondary school level with a view to establishing their combined influence on students’ academic achievement. This study, therefore investigated the causal-effects of home background variables, academic motivation and self-concept on students’ attitude and achievements in mathematics among secondary school students in Ogun State, Nigeria. The study employed ex-post facto type of research. The sample was selected using the multi-stage sampling technique. Two thousand four hundred students from 60 selected schools in nine local government areas within Ogun State, Nigeria were involved. Five research instruments namely; Attitude towards Mathematics Questionnaire; (r = 0.73), Self-concept Scale; (r = 0.71), Parents’ Support Scale; (r = 0.66), Academic Motivation Scale; (r = 0.85) and Mathematics Achievement Test; (r = 0.84) were used. Four research questions were answered and data analysed using path analysis technique at .05 level of significance. There were 22 significant and meaningful pathways through which the predictors caused variation in students’ attitude to and achievement in mathematics. Out of the 22 pathways, three were direct while 19 were indirect. The original and the reproduced correlation coefficients were also compared and the discrepancies were found to be minimal. Out of the seven predictor variables hypothesised, only one (i.e, parents’ education), significantly exerted direct influence on achievement. However, all the seven predictor variables significantly exerted direct and indirect influence on students’ attitude thus; academic motivation (β = 0.321); self-concept (β = 0.187); parents’ support (β = 0.105); number of children in the family (β = 0.011); parents’ education (β = 0.007); parents’ occupation (β = 0.005); and age of mother at birth of the child (β = 0.001). Therefore, since home background variables (i.e, age of mother at birth of the child, parents’ education, occupation and support, number of children in the family) as well as academic motivation and self-concept brought about greater improvement in students’ attitude towards mathematics, it is pertinent that parents be encouraged to put on earnest efforts in motivating students towards the learning of mathematics. Such encouragement and support will thus supplement the efforts of the teachers at school and help students cultivate positive attitude towards mathematics. Additionally, since parents’ education influences students’ academic achievement in mathematics, the government and all stakeholders in the education sector should endeavour to implement its policy on basic education for all and thus create an enlightened society in which every parent would be educated enough to have a positive influence on their children especially in their attitude towards mathematics, which would in turn lead to better achievement in the subject.
