    Determinant of marital satisfaction among young couples in Lagos state, Nigeria

    Correlational survey design was adopted to examine the predictive influence of psychological and social factors on marital satisfaction of young couples in Lagos state. Representative sample size of 682 young couples completed measures regarding personality trait, religiosity; parental influence and marital satisfaction. The hypothesized variables have correlation coefficients ranging from r-.123 to .519 with marital satisfaction. Multivariate Regression Analyses indicated that the contribution of the independent variables to the prediction of the dependent variable was significant [F (5. 676] =14.49; p<. 001). They jointly accounted for about 29.5% variation in the prediction of marital satisfaction. Religiosity had the highest contribution (β =. 186, t=5.34; P < 05) while parental influence and gender were not potent in predicting marital satisfaction. The study provides empirical evidence to suggest that psychological and social factors have relationship with marital satisfaction in varying dimensions.

    Psychosocial determinant of creativity among secondary school students in Saki, Oyo State, Nigeria

    Correlational research design was adopted to examine the extent to which psychosocial factors predicted creativity among secondary school students in Saki, Oyo State, Nigeria. Six hundred and seventy-seven respondents (female=312; male=365) whose age ranged from 12 to 22 with mean age of 5.17 drawn using multistage sampling technique participated in the study. Three research questions guided the study. Data collected using Animashaun (2007) was analyzed with Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) and Multiple Regression at 0.05 level of significance. Results show that emotional intelligence and parental involvement have positive relationship with creativity level (r= 0.194, P<.05) and (r= 0.172, P<.05) respectively, while peer group influence has negative correlation with creativity level. The three independent variables jointly accounted for 21.2% of the variance in the prediction of creativity. There is need for teachers, parents, counselling psychologists and other stakeholders to design activities and leaning experiences that will make new ideas are to be generated, developed and transformed into value.

    Psychosocial occupational stressors as correlate of job satisfaction among student counsellors in National Open University of Nigeria: implications for intervention

    This study determined whether there were significant relationships between the selected psychosocial occupational stressors of career advancement, workloads, interpersonal work relationship, gender difference in family/work interface, and control/decision latitude and job satisfaction among student counsellors practicing in National Open University of Nigeria. This study adopted descriptive survey of Ex-post facto design. The research population included all the sixty-two student counsellors serving in NOUN as at July, 2013. Purposive sampling technique was used. Out of the sixty two Psychosocial Occupational Stress Scale (POSS) distributed, only forty- four were properly filled and used for analysis. The reliability of the instrument was established using test-retest correlation via Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) which yielded average of r=.77. The alpha level of significant was set at 0.005. The analyses via SPSS indicated that there were positive low relationships between Job satisfaction and career advancement (r= 0.011; p =0.942), interpersonal relationship (r=. 0.175; p =0.255) and workloads (r=0.102; p =0.511). While there were inverse low relationships between job satisfaction and gender difference in family/work interface (r=.0.-.229; p=0.135 and, control and decision latitude (r=0.-217; p=0.157). All the null hypotheses were accepted, inferring that, there were no significant correlations between psychosocial occupational stressors and job satisfaction of student counsellors in NOUN. These results were therefore attributed to student counsellors’ expert knowledge and skills in the management of stress. Based on the findings, incisive recommendations were also made.
