P.; Ojo, F. E.Nigeria has over the years witnessed religious conflicts that have threatened the unity of Nigeria. From the point of view of Intergroup Threat Theory, this paper argues that religious conflicts that Nigeria has witnessed over the years is traceable to prejudice resulting from religious dogmatism which has been expressed through intolerance, clashes, riots, and discrimination. Through religious teachings, religious leaders have instilled dogmatic prejudice in their followers which has culminated in religious intolerance, violence, discrimination, and resentment perpetrated by religious groups against other religious groups which they have defined as out-group. To preclude religious conflict in Nigeria therefore, religious leaders and teachers should be sensitized to indoctrinate their members in a way that would promote love, peace, and tolerance, and abstain from any form of teaching and utterances that could cause their members to be prejudiced against other religious groupsItem Social context of child survival strategies among mothers in polygynous marriages in Ibadan, Nigeria(2018) Chukwudeh, O. S.; Ojo, F. E.The study examined the social context of child survival strategies among mothers in polygynous marriages in Ibadan, Nigeria. The social exchange theory was employed as the theoretical framework. Thirty in-depth interviews were conducted with mothers in Polygynous marriages. Referral and snowball techniques were used to reach the target population. Mothers in polygynous marriages were purposively selected from three geographical locations in Ibadan, Nigeria. Manual content analysis was used to analyze the data for the study. The result showed that most mothers in polygynous marriages in Ibadan engaged in informal economic activities in order to raise finance needed for sustenance and child survival; use traditional herbs for child care, treatment and survival; live separately from other wives in order to prevent childhood sicknesses associated with congestion and overcrowding in the house. In addition, there is inconsistency in administering immunization to children due to poverty. The study concluded that mother’s place of residence, health care practices, and engaging in informal economic activities positively influenced child survival among women in polygynous marriages in Ibadan. There is need for more awareness campaign to ensure that children in polygynous families are regularly administered with vaccines in order to ensure their survival and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goal 3Item Monitoring and evaluation of literacy programmes in Nigeria(2018) Ojo, F. E.; Abu, P. B.Monitoring and evaluation is very important in keeping record of the successful implementation of any Programme, process or project. Literacy Programme as a crucial aspect of adult education needs to be monitored and evaluated in order to measure the achievement of desired results and set out objectives. Although the formal System of education has enjoyed a great level of monitoring and evaluation, this has not been properly implemented in the non-formal sector, especially for literacy programmes. Even when such evaluative processes are set in place, they merely emphasize the physical facilities while leaving out the other aspects of the evaluation process such as the facilitators’ inputs, learners’ performance and other things. Other challenges of evaluating literacy programmes in Nigeria include inadequate training of evaluation experts and lack of national benchmark for evaluation. This paper seeks to advocate for an all-encompassing forms of the evaluation of literacy programmes to achieve continuous successful outcomes of the desired objectives of the literacy programmes. It also suggests regular capacity building and training for evaluation officers as well as the setting of a national benchmark for evaluation of literacy programmesItem Syndicate training method for safety competencies of workers in Oyo State(2018-10) Ojo, F. E.Safety trainings have been observed not to bring desired reduction of accidents rates nor improved safety competencies of workers in the construction industry. It is of major concern if this could be as a result of the wrong methodology used in executing these safety trainings. The paper determined the effects of syndicate training method (STM) on occupational health and safety competencies of workers in the construction industry in Oyo State, Nigeria. It adopted the pretest-postest, control group quasi experimental design. Purposive sampling technique was employed in selecting three reputable construction organisations in Oyo State. The workers in the two organizations who met the study 's inclusion criteria were randomised into STM, (12) and Lecture method (12) (Control) groups while treatment lasted eight weeks. Construction Industry Occupational Health and Safety Competencies Questionnaire (r= 0.85) and Occupational Health and Safety Competencies Scale (r=0.78) were used in collecting data for the study. Data analysis was done using ANCO VA at 0.05 level of significance. There was a significant main effect of treatment on occupational health and safety competencies of construction workers (F(i, 19)= .225, P<0.05, rf= .029). The syndicate training method improved the occupational health and safety competencies of the construction workers. Therefore, the training method should be employed regularly in safety trainings to achieve improved occupational health and safety competencies -workersItem Employability of adult education postgraduate students in university of Ibadan, Nigeria: opportunities and threats(Department of Adult Education University of Ibadan, 2016-08) Omoregie, C. E.; Omoregie, C. O.Construction work and industry, although highly important to Nigeria's developmental processes, is characterized by high level of risks occurrence and hazards. This raises concern about the type of safety training provided in the industry and the instructional method used in imparting such safety trainings. A pretest-postest control group quasi experimental design was used for the study. The experimental group was exposed to guided-practice training method and lecture method was conducted on the control group. Two construction industries were purposively selected based on the criteria of workers' size, number of customers and experience of health risks. The workers in the two organizations who met the study's inclusion criteria were randomised into GpTM (11) and Lecture method (12) (Control) groups while treatment lasted eight weeks. Construction Industry Occupational Health and Safety Competencies Questionnaire (r= 0.85) and Occupational Health and Safety Competencies Scale (r=0.78) were used in collecting data for the study. Data analysis was done using ANCOVA at 0.05 level of significance. There was a significant main effect of treatment on the occupational health and safety competencies of workers (F(1.17)= 15.693. P<0.05, η2= .480).). There was no significant main effect of level of literacy on occupational health and safety competencies among participants (F(1.19) = . 659, p>0.05, η = . 034), but the two-way interaction effect treatments and literacy was significant. Guided-practice training method was significant in enhancing the occupational health and safety competencies of construction workers. The training method should therefore be employed regularly in safety trainings to achieve improved health and safety competencies in the Nigerian construction industry.
