    Knowledge, attitude and practice of cybercrime among secondary school students in Nigeria

    The Internet, which has opened a vast array of possibilities for the young and the old in the social, economic, education, health and other sectors, has been flawed by the rise in internet crimes regarded as unethical use of the computer and internet which could cripple the nation's economy if not given attention. These include cyber fraud (yahoo-yahoo), plagiarism, pornography, and piracy of software. Reports have shown that perpetrators of these cybercrimes have been assumed to be youths usually within the ages of 15 and 30 years. Despite various efforts put in place to address the menace it appears the unwanted practice still persists. It seems that youngsters enter into the practice ignorantly and with confused attitude to it. Therefore, this paper investigated students' awareness of computer ethics, knowledge, attitude to and practice of computer ethics among Junior Secondary School 3 students in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. The study is a descriptive survey design using with a total of eighty-five (85) participants. The results show that majority of the students were aware of the ethical and unethical use of the computer/internet, few of the respondents are very knowledgeable as regards computer ethics and they have a positive attitude towards computer ethics. Each of the respondents engages in more than two unethical ways of using the computer/internet. The paper concludes that secondary school students engage in unethical use of computer/ internet despite their awareness, knowledge and a show of positive attitude to ethical use of computer/internet. It is recommended that appropriate legal measures should be taken to curb the practice among secondary students in Nigeria.

    Pre-service teachers’ awareness and attitude towards user-generated content as a collaborative learning tool

    The promotion of learners’ active participation and becoming responsible for their own learning through the use of information communication technologies (ICT) is quite encouraging and exciting in the age of digital technologies. In particular, the Internet-based platforms and facilities that assist students in creating and sharing knowledge is becoming more popular today. This paper examined the University of Ibadan Pre-service teachers’ awareness and attitudinal disposition toward user-generated content as a collaborative learning tool with respect to their gender and teaching subject. The sample population comprised 78(42.2%) male and 107(57.82%) female 100 level students drawn from five departments where teaching subjects are offered in the Faculty of Education. A questionnaire containing students’ awareness and attitude scales (QPAAUGC), validated with Kuder Richardson 20 (reliability indices = 0.75 and 0.66 respectively) was administered to the participants. Two research questions and four hypotheses were raised and tested respectively in the study. The findings show that 63.3% of the students were aware of, and have positive attitude towards UGC. However, gender and teaching subject contributed significantly (t = 2.298, p<.05) and (F (J l82) = 13.020, p<0.05) to students’ level of awareness. Also, gender ana teaching subject contributed significantly (t g3 = 2.298, p<.05) and (F (2182) = 13.020, p<0.05) to students’ attitude to UGC as a collaborative learning tool. Premised on the findings, this paper highlights its recommendations and conclusions.

    The place of e-learning in special education

    The traditional pedagogical methods of teaching have promoted rote learning among children where the traditional learner is a passive recipient of whatever is being taught. Today, there is the challenge of integrating e-leaming at all levels of education. However, exceptional children who have different types of impairments have not benefited immensely like their able-bodied mates and those in developed nations like USA and Europe. This paper, however investigates the place of e-leaming in special education, the supporting theory, as well as e-leaming solutions for teaching children with special needs and customizing e-leaming for both students and teachers. The study used 19 female participants with different spans of work experience, and found out that they possess positive dispositions towards e-leaming in the educating children with special education needs.

    Computer literacy, attitude to computer and learning styles as predictors of physics students' achievement in senior secondary schools of Oyo State

    Physics, a subject in the senior secondary school occupies a central position in science education. Physics in this 21st century as a course of study and field is experiencing new discoveries at such a rate that it cannot continue to be taught using only traditional and conventional method and the teacher-centred approach. The invention of computer-based resources for teaching the subject would be a great advantage if explored. Hence, the factors which impede students’ use of computer technology in learning of Physics however need to be investigated. This study investigated three of these factors and found that student’s computer literacy, attitude to computer and learning styles jointly correlate with achievement of students in Physics (R = 0.18) with each factor making respective relative contributions. While computer literacy could not predict the dependent measure (B= -0.055; t = -0.67; p<0.05), attitude to computer could (B- 0.18; t = -1.09; p>0.05) and learning styles could not (B= 0.20; t = 0.25; p>0.05). It was recommended that Physics students should be motivated to learn and be equipped with computer appreciation and operational skills while computer systems need to be made available and accessible for Physics learning in the school system.
