    (2023-06) Adio, V.; Gbadamosi, T. V.
This study examines the required employability skills and how important is such employability skills to an employer of labours in Oyo State, Nigeria. Two research questions were answered. The study adopted the sequential mixed methods research design. The multi-stage sampling procedure was used in this study. The economic sectors were stratified into seven sectors in Ibadan Metropolis. 20 employers of labour were selected from each sector using a convenience sampling technique. A total of 140 employers were used for the study. 10 human resources managers were purposively selected as Key informants for interview sections using an interview guide. Two validated instruments of reliability of 0.75 and 0.78 respectively were used to collect the data. Quantitative data were analysed using the descriptive statistic of frequency count, percentage, mean, and standard deviation while qualitative data were content analysed and thematically interpreted. The results obtained revealed that employers strongly agreed that communication, Information Communication and Technology, Problem-Solving, Analytical, Personality, Adaptability, Team Work, and Leadership skills were essential for graduates to have in order to be employable. It can therefore be inferred that the possession of a certificate is only to attest to the fact that someone has been trained in formal settings. Job seekers should display good communication skills, organisation skill, creativity, teamwork, planning, and so on, which are in high demand by the employers of labour. Among others, some recommendations were made that the management of various educational institutions should put more emphasis on experiential learning to gain practical experience through service learning, internships, volunteer work, teaching practice, or part-time jobs to expose learners to employability skills in terms of, organisation skill, creativity, teamwork and, planning. Also, counselling section should be put in place to re-orientate the graduate on Japa syndrome among others.

Exploring service learning in redesigning and implementing education economics curriculum: experience of university students
    (2022) Gbadamosi, T. V.; Jacob, U. S.; Pillay. J.
This study examined service learning as an effective strategy for implementation of the Economics curriculum for result-oriented university education. The study was guided by two research questions, adopted a qualitative research approach and utilised phenomenology design. A purposive sampling technique was used to select all students from the departments of Educational Management, Arts and Social Sciences Education, Adult Education, Guidance and Counselling Education, and Special Education who had taken Economics Methods. The reason for the selection of the students was that they had participated in service learning and would be able to provide answers to the research questions. Focus group discussion and key informant interview guides were used to collect data from the participants. The ATLAS. Qualitative software package was used to analyse the data. The findings of the study revealed that service learning was an effective strategy for preparing pre-service teachers for the world of work as it gives undergraduates an opportunity to get involved in communal services such as tutoring, advocacy, and environmental sustainability, among others. It also enhances students’ employability skills, such as financial literacy, project management, teamwork, and resourcefulness. It was therefore recommended that service learning should be infused into the teacher education curriculum for effective implementation of the economics curriculum and to promote undergraduate employability skills.

Where are we? lecturers receptivity of service learning in Nigeria
    (2018) Gbadamosi, T. V.
Universities in Nigeria are established to perform three functions- teaching, research and community service. In spite of the establishment of several government and private-owned universities in Nigeria, most of these tertiary institutions have been criticised for not meeting the objectives of their establishment. This is because gaps between the gown and the town exist to the extent that the functionality of the education provided and the relevance of the certificates awarded to the society are being questioned. However, service learning was one of the ways used to bridge the gaps between the universities and communities in some of the developed and developing countries. This study therefore examined the extent to which lecturers incorporate service learning into teaching learning process. The study adopted mixed research design. Three research questions were posed for the study. Validated Service learning Structure Interview Schedule (r= 0.826) was administered to One hundred and fifty lecturers selected from three Universities in Southwest, Nigeria using multi stage sampling technique. The data collected was analysed using descriptive statistic and content analysis. The results and implications of the findings were discussed while recommendations were also made.
