- Item Psychosocial factors and knowledge of early adolescents’ attitude to HIV/AIDS in Ibadan, Nigeria(2009-11) Aremu, A. O.; Adindu, P. A.; Adeyemi, A. O.The study investigated the influence of some psychosocial factors (self-efficacy, emotional Intelligence, gender and age) and knowledge on HIV/AIDS attitudes of early adolescents. 240 school-going early adolescents (132 males and 108 females) aged between 10 and 14 years participated in the study. The measured effects of the independent variables using the Pearson r and hierarchical regression statistics indicated a joint relationship of the measures on HIV-AIDS altitudes of early adolescents. Similarly, participants' self-efficacy, El, knowledge of HIV/AIDS, and age also influenced their attitudes towards HIV/AIDS. These findings suggest that early adolescents' attitudes towards HIV/AIDS could be improved through the variables investigated.
- Item Relationship among demographic variables and pupils’ reasoning ability(2008) Tella, A.; Tella, A.; Adika, L. O.; Toyobo, M. O.Introduction: Pupils reasoning ability is a sine-qua-non to the evaluation of their performance in learning and an indicator of their potential predictors of future performance. Method: The study examined the relationship among demographic variables and reasoning ability of primary school pupils. It drew four hundred pupils from ten (10) purposefully selected public primary schools in Ibadan, Nigeria. The age of these pupils ranged from 9-11 years. A Reasoning Assessment Test developed by (Sokan, 1998) with r = 0.89 cronbach alpha was used for the collection of data. Two hypotheses were developed to guide the study. These were analysed using Pearson Multiple Correlation Matrix and Multiple Regression statistical methods. Results: The results indicate that demographic variables like age, class, and gender correlates positively with pupils reasoning ability and that these three variables significantly predict pupils reasoning ability better than other variables. Discussion and Conclusion: Based on these findings teachers and parents are called upon to see to it that they start stimulation of the children thinking at an early age as soon as they enter school through provision fascinating toys, computers and simulation games.
- Item The impact of motivation on student’s academic achievement and learning outcomes in mathematics among secondary school students in Nigeria(MOMENT Kazim Karabekir Cad., Ankara-Turkey, 2007-05) Tella, A.In our match towards scientific and technological advancement, we need nothing short of good performance in mathematics at all levels of schooling. In an effort to achieve this, this study investigated the impact of motivation on students’ school academic achievement in mathematics in secondary schools using motivation for academic preference scale (α = 0.82) as a measuring instrument and achievement test in mathematics (ATM) Two hypotheses were tested for significant at 0.05 margin of error using t-test and analysis of variance (ANOVA) Results showed that gender difference were significant when impact of motivation on academic achievement was compared in male and female students. Also, other result indicates significant difference when extent of motivation was taken as variable of interest on academic achievement in mathematics based on the degree of their motivation. Implications, suggestions and recommendations on students, parents, government, counsellors, educational stakeholders, etc were discussed.

- Item An assessment of secondary school teachers uses of ICT's: implication for further development of ICT's use in Nigerian secondary school(2007-07) Tella, A.; Tella, A.; Oluwole, M.; Toyobo, M. O.; Adika, L. O.; Adeyinka, A. A.The use of ICTs in Nigeria and African countries generally is increasing and dramatically growing. However, while there is a great deal of knowledge about how ICTs are being used in developed countries, there is not much information on how ICTs are being used by teachers in developing countries. This study examined Nigeria secondary school teachers’ uses of ICTs and its implications for further development of ICTs use in Nigerian secondary schools. The study through census drawn on 700 teachers from twenty five purposefully selected private secondary schools in Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria. This comprised 430 males and 270 females. Their age ranged from 25 - 45 years with a mean age of 35 years. A modified instrument tagged Teachers ICT use survey adapted from ICT survey indicator for teachers and staff by UNESCO (2004) and ICT Teachers Survey by New Zealand Ministry of Education MINEDU (1999) were used for the collection of data. The results showed that teachers generally have access to ICTs in their various schools except e-mail and Internet because their schools are not connected. Technical support are lacking in the schools and teachers lack of expertise in using ICT was indicated as being the prominent factors hindering teachers readiness and confidence of using ICTs during lesson. Furthermore, the results show that teachers perceived ICT as being easier and very useful in teaching and learning. For continuous uses of ICTs by teachers, it was recommended among others that teacher training and professional development oriented policies should support ICT-related teaching models that encourage both students and teachers to play an active role in teaching/learning activities. And that emphasis must be placed on the pedagogy behind the use of ICTs for teaching/learning.
- Item Information needs, seeking behaviour and use for sustainable development by market women in Lagos state, Nigeria(2009) Adetimirin, A.; Adeniyi, L.This study investigated the information needs, seeking behaviour and the sources used by market women in Lagos State for development. Random sampling method was used to select 120 market women from a population of 1200 while data was collected using questionnaire and interview methods. The women needed information mostly on finance, health and economic aspects and sought information primarily from informal sources such as friends, and colleagues, in the two markets (40%) covered to improve their welbeing. Friends, colleagues, radio and television were used daily for sourcing information. Over 87% of the respondents in both markets agreed that language of information source was the major barrier to their use of various sources. The needs of these women could be met through repackaging of information from information centres tailored to suit their needs and improve their life and society.
- Item Use of the internet by information professionals in some selected university libraries in South west, Nigeria(Association of Information Professionals of Nigeria, 2009-06) Adetimirin, A. E.The Internet in Nigeria is a veritable tool to access information due to the poor economic situation and the non availability of current library materials. This study attempted to find out the level of use of the Internet and problems faced by information professionals. Thirty- two information professionals were selected from three university libraries in South West Nigeria and the questionnaire was used for data collection. The Internet was used mainly for Electronic mails and the main access point was through cybercafes. Slow Internet connection, cost of bandwidth and little knowledge of Internet facilities were the major problems highlighted.
- Item Fifty years of archives administration in Nigeria: lessons for the future(Emerald Publishing, 2007) Abioye, A.Purpose - In commemoration of the 50 years of archives administration in Nigeria, the purpose of this paper is to look at the establishment of the National Archives of Nigeria, its expansion and development over the years and its role in coordinating records management in Nigeria. Design/methodology/approach - The paper is based on published literature and documentary evidence from records. Findings - The paper discusses the gains of the past, particularly the high hopes of the 1970s and the expansion and consolidation of the 1980s which rolled into the early 1990s. Notes the decadence of the 1990s and highlights the problems that bedevilled the institutions and archives and records management in the country among which are poor funding, lack of appreciation of the importance of archives, obsolete equipment and high staff turn over.
- Item Social work practice in Nigeria: an empowering tool for mass participation in basic education(The Nigerian National Council for Adult Education, 2008-06) Folaranmi, O. O.The paper presents social work in the presents arrangement with the aim of re-examining and rediscovering its purpose. This effort is being made to reposition social work in Nigeria so as to meet global standards, global challenges and best practices. Some definitions of social work are reviewed, highlighting major comparisons and contrasts. Core purpose and mission statements of social work in Nigeria are examined with particular reference to the Nigeria Association of Social Workers as the professional body, the academic/professional programme of the institution's training social workers and the welfare programme of federal, state and local government as the major employers of social workers in Nigeria. A brief historical survey of social welfare in pre-colonial period was done to enable us know where we were coming from, how we arrived at the present state and consequently prepare for future challenges in social work in Nigeria. This author, is observed that some African social values have been found dispensable in addressing modem social problems and the infusion of these values into the training of social workers in Nigerian cannot be overemphasized. Thereafter, the strengths and limitations of the values are examined with the hope of building on the strengths and diminishing the weaknesses. Finally, the author suggested some steps to be taken by both government and the appropriate bodies in the rediscovering process while preparing to face future challenges.
- Item The unknown burden of the girl-child and intervention programme designed to address this(2007) Folaranmi, O. O.This paper discussed the problem of the unknown and unexpected burden of the girl-child, and the intervention programme developed to address it. The burden comprises peoples of all ages (such as the elderly, adult, children); social and economic problem, such as pregnancy (wanted or unwanted, planned or unplanned), street hawking, child trafficking, illiteracy and poverty; and diseases (such as HIV/AIDS, STDs). The purpose of this paper is to create awareness, especially for policymakers, government functionaries and, most importantly, the girl-child, so that appropriate legislative actions are taken and so that the girl child can make informed decision about her sexuality. In the course of the discourse, experiences will be shared, to identify girls who have been 'trapped' in the cycle of 'the unknown burden'. Various research findings have confirmed the reality of this burden: hence, the recommendations include the replication of programmes in many public schools across Nigeria so as to compile baseline data.
