Item Conscientiousness, self-efficacy, social support and health information-seeking behaviour of senior secondary school adolescents in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State(2018) Adeyemi, A. O.In recent tunes, it has been observed that poor knowledge on health state and status has led to high morbidity and mortality. There is prevalence in poor health-information knowledge, ignorance, increased STIS, HIV/AID, risky health behaviour, abortion and the like. The danger posed by poor health knowledge motivated an investigation of the health information-seeking behaviour of adolescents using conscientiousness, self-efficacy and social support as predictors. The study adopted a correlational study with a sample of 200 adolescents randomly sampled from Ibadan North local Government Area of Oyo State. Four reliable measuring instruments were used to collect data. Three research questions raised analysed were using Pearson product moment correlation and multiple regression analysis. The result showed that conscientiousness, self-efficacy and social support positively correlated with health information-seeking behaviour. The regression analysis showed that the three factors jointly accounted/or 42.2% of the total variance in adolescent information-seeking behaviour. Social support was found to be the strongest predictor followed by self-efficacy and conscientiousness. Among others recommendations, parents, teachers and significant individuals are enjoined to help students out with their demand to know much about their health status. School counsellors are admonished to help students to build their self-efficacy to help them to he bald enough to seek for health information. The government should also employ school counselors who will assist students to build their personality (conscientiousness) to enhance self-control on their health issues. This might go a long u-«v in reducing self-prescription and misuse of drugItem Correlational indicators of psychosocial adjustment among senior secondary school students in Ogun State, Nigeria(Ife Center for Psychological Studies, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria, 2017) Adeyemi A. O.This study examined correlational indicators of psychosocial adjustment among senior secondary school students in Ogun State, Nigeria. The study adopted the correlational research design. A sample of 700 students' was randomly selected. Reliable instrument was used to elicit the data. The data was analysed using Pearson product moment correlation and multiple linear regression analysis. The result revealed that the independent variables significantly correlated with students" psychosocial adjustment. There was a significant joint contribution of the independent variables (sense of coherence, optimism and self-efficacy) to the prediction of psychosocial adjustment. This suggested that the three independent variables combined accounted for 30.4% (Adj.R2= .304) variation in the prediction of psychosocial adjustment. The most potent factor was optimism, followed by self-efficacy. Sense of coherence was not a potent predictor of psychosocial adjustment. This implies that an increased influence of optimism and self-efficacy increases the likelihood of students' psychosocial adjustment. Among others, it was recommended that school counsellors should design programmes that will help students develop adequate psychosocial adjustment skill to cope with the demands of life. School administrators are also enjoined to organize programmes that emphasise the development of self-efficacy, optimism and sense of coherence in students. O.; Adindu, P. A.; Adeyemi, A. O.The study investigated the influence of some psychosocial factors (self-efficacy, emotional Intelligence, gender and age) and knowledge on HIV/AIDS attitudes of early adolescents. 240 school-going early adolescents (132 males and 108 females) aged between 10 and 14 years participated in the study. The measured effects of the independent variables using the Pearson r and hierarchical regression statistics indicated a joint relationship of the measures on HIV-AIDS altitudes of early adolescents. Similarly, participants' self-efficacy, El, knowledge of HIV/AIDS, and age also influenced their attitudes towards HIV/AIDS. These findings suggest that early adolescents' attitudes towards HIV/AIDS could be improved through the variables investigated.Item Locus of control, interest in schooling and self-efficacy as predictors of academic achievement among junior secondary school students in Osun State, Nigeria(2011-05) Tella, A.; Tella, A.; Adeniyi, S. O.Background: Academic achievement is interestingly an important issue; a fundamental premium upon which all teaching learning activities are measured using some criteria of excellence e.g. good academic performance, poor academic performance and academic failure. Aims: This study examines locus of control, interest in schooling and self-efficacy as predictors of academic achievement of Junior Secondary School Students. Sample: The sample of the study consisted of 500 students comprising 300 boys and 200 girls. These were selected from twenty-five secondary schools through stratified random techniques. The stratification factor used was the class of the students. Method: An ex-post-facto research design is adopted. Three independents variables (Locus of Control, Interest in schooling and self-efficacy) with the dependent variable (academic achievement) are measured with relevant standardized instruments. Two research questions are developed and answered. Results: The results indicate that locus of control, interest in schooling and self efficacy jointly and relatively contribute significantly to the prediction of academic achievement of the Junior Secondary School Students. Conclusion: Based on these findings, the simultaneous need to continuously stimulate the interest of the students and teach them time management, and for teachers to see all the three variables as equally important and to help students improve on them was emphasized.Item Psycho-physiological factors as predictors of sport prominence and excellence among student-athletes in southwestern, Nigeria(His Lineage Publishing House, 2017) Jaiyeoba, M. O.This study investigated psycho-physiological factors as predictors of sport prominence and excellence among student-athletes in Southwestern, Nigeria. Psychological factors are goal setting and self-efficacy, while physiological factors are muscular strength, muscular endurance and body composition. Expost-facto research design was used for the study. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 1604 university athletes matriculated students who have represented the institutions in NUGA. The instruments used were Goal Setting in Sport Questionnaire (GS1SQ), Sport Self Confidence Questionnaire (SSCQ), ICHPER.SD Children/Youth Fitness Test. Five hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Data were analysed using inferential statistic of regression. The combined effect of the independent variables (both psychological and physiological factors) yielded coefficient of R2: 0.43 and 0.46 respectively and this translated into 43% and 46% of the total variance on sport prominence and excellence. The F-value (F(3.1600) = 25.49. P< 0.05) was found to be significant. Four out of five independent variables tested had significant contributions (P< 0.05): goal setting (fi = .18, t=6.68), self-efficacy (fi =.058, t= 2.19)f muscular strength (β =.06, t=2.07) and muscular endurance (β = . 19, t=6.94) to sport prominence and excellence. However, body composition had no significant contribution. Based on the result of the findings, it was recommended that both psychological and physiological factors intervention support be given student-athletes in order to enhance sport performance, prominence and excellenceItem Psychological and nutritional factors as correlates of wellbeing of female athletes in Oyo State(2018-06) Jaiyeoba, M. O.This study was carried out in order to find out the psychological and nutritional factors as correlate of wellbeing among female athletes in Oyo State. The descriptive survey research design was employed due to its suitability to the study objective. The population for the study was female athletes in Oyo State while a sample of 100 respondents was purposively drawn across twelve (12) major sports represented by the athletes. A self- structured validated dose ended 4-point Likert scale instrument was used for data collection. Four hypotheses were tested. The collected questionnaire were coded and analysed using inferential statistics of multiple regression to test the hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level. In conclusion, the researchers found that psychological and nutritional variables such as self-efficacy, self-esteem, late eating, snacking and skipping meal significantly correlate with wellbeing of female athletes in Oyo State Sports Council. It therefore recommended that coaches and athletes should endeavor to watch out for those psychological factors and strengthen the psychological state needed for wellbeing, nutritional needs of the athletes should be taken care ofItem Self-efficacy, parental involvement and school adjustment of high achieving secondary school students in Oyo State, Nigeria(2022-06) Adelodun, G. A.; Salako, A. A.This study investigated self-efficacy and parental involvement as predictors of school adjustment of high ability secondary school students in Oyo State, Nigeria. A descriptive survey design of correlational type was adopted. The simple random sampling technique was used to selective local government areas from each of the three senatorial districts in Oyo State. The simple random sampling technique was also used to select two secondary schools from each local government, while the purposive sampling technique was adopted to select 450 high achieving students in SSI (180 males and 270females), based on their scores in Slossan Intelligence test, and Achievement tests in English Language and Mathematics. Instruments used were Slossan Intelligence Test (r= 0.86); Mathematics Achievement (r=0.72) and English Language Achievement tests (r=0.75) Self-efficacy (r=0.72); and Parental involvement (r=0.81) while Pearson Products Moment Correlation was used to test, the hypotheses generated at 0.05 level of significance. Findings showed that self-efficacy (r=0. 98; P<0. 05), and parental involvement (r= 0. 97; P<0. 05) influenced school adjustment of high achieving secondary school students in Oyo State, Nigeria. Therefore, relevant government bodies and schools should adopt methods and different policies that can positively trigger positive aspects of these variables for exploitation in influencing school adjustment of high achieving students.Item Teachers' factors, self-efficacy and social desirability as correlates of ICT utilisation for stress management among secondary school teachers in Oyo State, Nigeria(Institute of Education, University of Ibadan, 2016) Isah, E. A.; Ojetunde, S. M.The study examined correlates of information and communication technology utilization for stress management among secondary school teachers in Oyo State, taking an in-depth study of Ibadan North Local Government Area. A sample of 160 teachers were randomly selected from which an “Information and Communication Technology for Stress Management Questionnaire" r=0.73 was used to collect data. Findings of the study indicated a significant relationship r= 0.648, p<0.05 between teachers' attitude to and the use of ICT for stress management. Social desirability was significantly related to the use of ICT for stress reduction r= 00.68, p<0.05, while teacher computer self-efficacy (r=0.116, p>0.05) and teachers’ personal characteristics were not significantly related to the use of ICT for stress management among secondary school teachers r= -0.167, p>0.05. The outcome of the study revealed that secondary school teachers ’ attitude and social desirability among staff are functions of whether teachers will reject or adopt ICT for stress management activities at the secondary school level. It was recommended that teachers and the administrative staff in secondary schools should develop positive attitudes towards the use of smart devices especially for stress management.Item Pre-school teacher’s perceived self-efficacy on implementation of national early childhood curriculum: implications for the achievement of sustainable development goal on education in Nigeria(2019) Ayoola, N. O.; Amosun, M. D.; Ojoko, B. A.The early years are critical in the life of every child as experiences gained during the period can have lasting effects on the child. For this reason, programmes aimed atfostering proper stimulations and holistic development ofthe child are usually put in place. One of such programmes is Early Childhood Education (ECE) which is guided by a curriculum in order to achieve the set objectives of the programme. For this reason, the Nigerian Government developed the National Early Childhood Education Curriculum for Ages 0-5 years. It is however not known whether pre-school teachers have the self- efficacy to effectively implement this curriculum. This study thus investigated Pre-School Teachers Perceived Self- Efficacy on Implementation of the National Early Childhood Education Curriculum for Ages 0-5 years in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State. The study adopted survey research design. Purposive sampling technique was used in selecting twenty five (25) public and thirty five (35) private primary schools'in the study area making a total ofsixty (60) primary schools. “Questionnaire on Pre-school Teachers' Perceived Self-efficacy on Implementation ofthe National Early Childhood Curriculum (QPTPSNECC) ” was the instrument used. Data collected were analysed using percentage, mean and standard deviation while T-test was used to test the hypothesis raised. Findings revealed that pre-service teachers self- efficacy on the implementation Childhood Curriculum for Ages 0-5 years was average. These findings have serious implications for the country's attainment of Sustainable Development Goal 4.2. It was recommended that pre-school teachers should be made to regularly attend trainings that will enable them acquire necessary skills for effective implementation of the curriculum.Item Work-conflict, job satisfaction and self-efficacy on organisational commitment of workers in selected banks in Lagos State(Department of Industriai Technology Education, 2020-07) Ukpabi, I.D.; Jimoh, A.M.Organizational Commitment is the psychological attachment that employees have with their organizations. This plays a big role in ascertaining the bond that employees share with the organization, which helps to enhance employees' value to it. This study, therefore, investigated the influence of work conflict, job satisfaction and self-efficacy on organizational commitment of bankers in Lagos. The study adopted descriptive design using simple random sampling in thè selection of three hundred bankers. Work conflict, job satisfaction, organisational commitment and self efficacy scales were used. Data were analysed using Pearson product moment correlation at 0.05 level of significant. The independent variables significantly correlated thè dependent variable - organizational commitment of bankers in Lagos, (r = 0.67). This implies that work conflict is significant correlated to organizational commitment among bankers. Each of the independent variables made relative contribution as in thè following order self-efficacy and organizational commitment (r 0.47). Significant association was observed between job satisfaction and organizational commitment among bankers; (r = 0.64). The study recommended that these variables be taken into consideration as a means of enhancing the organisational commitment of bankers in an organisation. Also bank management, government and stakeholders can put in place intervention and motivation as a process towards promoting organizational commitment.
