    Potential graduates’ knowledge, readiness, and disposition to 21st century employability skills in the University of Ibadan, Ibadan Nigeria

    The interplay between knowledge acquisition, readiness for practical application, and the disposition of graduates towards developing and utilizing these skills is of paramount importance in the 21st1 century world of works. This study assessed potential graduates ’ knowledge, readiness, and disposition to 21st century employability skills at the University of Ibadan (UI). The study adopted a descriptive survey design. The population comprised all undergraduate students in the university. Out of 17 faculties, balloting mechanism was used to select 12 faculties. A purposive technique was used to select 590 students. A questionnaire termed Potential Graduates Employability Skills (PGES) with four subsections, was used for data collection. A descriptive statistic of percentage, frequency count, mean and standard deviation were used to analysed data collected. Result revealed that potential graduates ' knowledge was average, readiness level was high and disposition to 21st century was positive. The findings shed light on the significance of cultivating a proactive mindset, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning as potential graduates of the 21s' century. Furthermore, there is need for educational institutions and policymakers to prioritize the integration of 21st century employability skills within curricula, foster culture that encourages graduates’ development of these skills. Critical curriculum reforms and pedagogical innovations to enhance students’ knowledge, readiness and foster a positive disposition towards acquiring the essential skills demanded by the modern workforce is necessary at this material time.

    Social studies students’ knowledge, attitude and practice of concepts of sustainable development in Ondo City, Nigeria

    Purpose: The study investigates Social Studies’ students’ knowledge, attitude, and practices of concepts of sustainable development in selected junior secondary school in Ondo city, Nigeria. Research Methodology: The survey was conducted involving five hundred (540) students from ten (18) junior secondary schools. A self-constructed questionnaire titled “Social studies’ students knowledge, attitude, and practices of concepts of sustainable development in selected junior secondary school in Ondo state QSSSKAPCSD Cronbach alpha Reliability co-efficient of; KSDC: 0.70; PSDC: 0.73, and ASDC: 0.71 respectively was used. Three research questions were answered using simple percentage, mean (x) and standard deviation. Result: The result shows Social Studies’ students’ level of knowledge, attitude and practices of sustainable development concepts is at an appreciable high level. The study recommended full implementation of various UNESCO’s plan on sustainable development goals by all countries in the world. Limitation: Sample size and area of coverage was the limitation of the study and this was due to the constraint of time and finance. Further studies should carry out an inferential statistics to analyse the variables. Contribution: The study assessed students’ level of knowledge, attitude and practices of sustainable development concepts in Social Studies.

    Knowledge and abuse of psychoactive substances among commercial drivers in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria

    This study examined knowledge and abuse of psychoactive substances among commercial drivers in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was used for this study. One hundred commercial drivers were sampled from commercial motor parks in Ibadan. The instrument used for the study was a self-developed questionnaire which was appropriately validated by experts and cronbach alpha was used to establish the reliability. Two research questions were raised to guide the study. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation. Results showed that commercial drivers in Ibadan do not have knowledge of psychoactive substance and they indulge in abuse of psychoactive substances. It was therefore recommended that drug education with greater emphasis on negative effects of psychoactive substances should be organized regularly for commercial drivers in Ibadan metropolis.

    Knowledge of personal and environmental factors as predictors of coronary heart diseases among non- academic staff of higher institutions in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

    Background: The scourge of coronary heart diseases is an increasing phenomenon worldwide. It is a challenge that has posed a greater risk on the health of people of both the developed and developing countries. The purpose of this study was to determine the knowledge of personal and environmental factors as predictors of coronary heart diseases among non-academic staff of higher Institutions in Abeokuta Ogun State Nigeria. Methods: Descriptive survey research design was used for the study.lt was delimited to non-academic staff of higher institutions in Abeokuta, Ogun State Nigeria. One thousand (1000) samples were randomly selected within the total population of the study. A self developed structured questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection, a reliability coefficient of 0.74 was obtained. Data were analyzed using SPSS. Version 14. Regression statistical techniques were applied to test hypotheses at 0.05 level of significant. Result: Four hypotheses were gathered, tested and analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts, bar charts, pie chart and regression to test ail hypothèses at 0.05 alpha level of significance. It was fmd out based on the results of fmdings that âge, sex and genetic that are non-modifiable factors predisposing coronary heart disease produced F,(3/996)=l 1.2%, P< .05 while modifiable factors of physical inactivity, diet and alcoholism significantly predisposed the development of coronary heart disease, levels F,(3/996)= 11.511, P< .05. Environmental factors of work environment, inaccessibility of recreational facilities, inavailability of high-quality cafeteria significantly predisposed the development of coronary heart disease. F, (3/996) =12.624, P< .05. The results also showed the relative contributions of all the variables in the development of coronary heart disease F, (9/990) =7.204, P< .05 Conclusions: According to the fmdings, it was recommended that there should be a national flag off of the awareness on prevention of Coronary Heart Disease as it is one of the major killer of sudden death, there should be a quarterly seminar for the non- academic staff of higher institution on the knowledge of coronary heart disease as well as the risk factors that predisposed people to this condition

    Knowledge of and Attitude towards Female Genital Mutilation among Mothers inAdeoyo Specialist Hospital, Ibadan

    This study investigated mothers' knowledge of and attitudes toward female genital mutilation at Adeoyo Specialist Hospital in Ibadan's postnatal clinic. The descriptive research design was adopted. A total of fifty (50) subjects were used as the sample, and the data far this study were collected using a self-administered questionnaire. In general, (78%) of mothers cited cultural and religious reasons far the practise of female circumcision. Findings showed that mothers had a high level of knowledge, and despite having a high level of knowledge about female genital mutilation and its dangers, the respondents' overall attitude is negative. As a result, social workers will need to increase health education programmes, seminars, campaigns, and rallies to encourage active discouragement of harmful cultural practises, such as female genital mutilation.

    Knowledge and attitude as determinants of practice of family planning among married men in Aleshinloye market, Ibadan

    This study examined knowledge and attitude as determinants of practice of family planning among married men in Aleshinloye Market, Ibadan. Descriptive survey design method was used for the study. Purposive sampling method was used to select participants for the study while a single questionnaire tagged ‘ Knowledge and Attitude as determinants of Practice of Family Planning among Married Men Questionnaire (KA PFPMMQ) " was used to collect relevant data. Two null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance, using Pearson Moment Correlation. The study established that there was a significant relationship between knowledge and family planning practice among married men (r = .891, n— 150. P < .05). Also, it was also revealed that there was a significant relationship between attitude and family planning practice among married men at Aleshinloye market (r = .867. n- 150. P < .05! Based on the above findings the study recommends that government should create more awareness to educate the general populace as knowledge about the subject matter is important in it acceptance and change in attitude

    Knowledge, attitude and practice of cybercrime among secondary school students in Nigeria

    The Internet, which has opened a vast array of possibilities for the young and the old in the social, economic, education, health and other sectors, has been flawed by the rise in internet crimes regarded as unethical use of the computer and internet which could cripple the nation's economy if not given attention. These include cyber fraud (yahoo-yahoo), plagiarism, pornography, and piracy of software. Reports have shown that perpetrators of these cybercrimes have been assumed to be youths usually within the ages of 15 and 30 years. Despite various efforts put in place to address the menace it appears the unwanted practice still persists. It seems that youngsters enter into the practice ignorantly and with confused attitude to it. Therefore, this paper investigated students' awareness of computer ethics, knowledge, attitude to and practice of computer ethics among Junior Secondary School 3 students in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. The study is a descriptive survey design using with a total of eighty-five (85) participants. The results show that majority of the students were aware of the ethical and unethical use of the computer/internet, few of the respondents are very knowledgeable as regards computer ethics and they have a positive attitude towards computer ethics. Each of the respondents engages in more than two unethical ways of using the computer/internet. The paper concludes that secondary school students engage in unethical use of computer/ internet despite their awareness, knowledge and a show of positive attitude to ethical use of computer/internet. It is recommended that appropriate legal measures should be taken to curb the practice among secondary students in Nigeria.

    Pre-school teachers’ knowledge of early childhood assessment and domains of learning commonly assessed in Ondo West Local Government Area, Ondo State, Nigeria

    Children have unique nature and characteristics. Because of this, regular and holistic assessment of their learning and development is necessary. This could be done through observation, administration of standardized and teacher-made assessment instrument and children work. For assessment of pre-school children to be done effectively, teachers at this level of education need to have good knowledge of what early childhood assessment is all about. This study, therefore, examined pre-school teachers’ knowledge of early childhood assessment and domains commonly assessed in early childhood education centres in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State. The study adopted descriptive survey design. The sample for the study comprised one hundred preprimary school teachers selected from both public and private schools through the use of purposive sampling. "Test on Teachers’ Knowledge of Early Childhood Assessment” (r=0.79) and “Checklist on Domains Commonly Assessed by Pre-school Teachers” (r=0.80) were instruments used for the study. Data collected were analysed using percentage, mean and standard deviation. Findings from the study revealed that the pre- primary school teachers’ level of knowledge on early childhood assessment in Ondo West Local Government Area was low (x = 38.71; SD = 16.31). Cognitive domain was the one most commonly assessed by the pre-primary school teachers (x = 3.40); with less emphasis on the assessment of other developmental domains which are the physical (x=1.58), social (x=1.60) and emotional (x=1.46). The implication is that, since the pre-schoolers are not properly assessed in all the domains of development through the use of appropriate assessment tools, they will not have the advantage of experiencing holistic development. It was, therefore, recommended that Pre-service ECE teacher education programmes should be reviewed such that teachers-in-training can acquire appropriate knowledge and skills in ECE assessment. School heads and owners should also organize in-service training, seminars and workshops on assessment in early childhood education periodically so as to train and expose the pre-primary school teachers to contemporary assessment practices in early childhood education.

    Knowledge, Attitüde and Practice of Family Planning among Married Women in Akinyele Local Government, Oyo State, Nigeria

    The study examined knowledge, attitude and practice of family planning, among married women in Akinyele Local Government, Oyo State. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. A total of 143 respondents participated in the study. The instrument employed was “Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Family Planning, among Married Women Questionnaire”. The data collected from the study were analysed using simple percentage and mean to provide answers for the research questions raised for the study. Findings revealed that married women in Akinyele Local Government, Oyo State are aware of family planning (Mean= 2.99) but do not practice it (Mean=l .86). Findings further revealed that the married women in Akinyele Local Government, Oyo State portray negative attitude towards family planning (Mean=2.36). On this basis, the study recommended, among other things. that the government should endeavour to increase the level of awareness on the importance of family planning. ln addition, the mass media should also be encouraged to do more in terms of enlightening the public on the benefits of modern contraceptive methods as this will help married couples to portray positive attitude towards the use of family planning

    Implications of parents' knowledge, attitude and practices of child physical abuse in building a safer world

    This study investigated parents' knowledge, attitude and practices of child physical abuse in Ogun State. The descriptive survey research design was adopted. A convenience sample of202 male and female parents from Abeokuta South and Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun state were selected using stratified and random sampling technique. A self-developed questionnaire tagged “Parents' Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices of Child Physical abuse Scale” was used for data collection. Simple percentages and means were used in answering the research questions. It was found that parents' knowledge of what constitute child physical abuse and practice is low. Though, most parents condemned child physical abuse there were believes that some abusive acts can be used as disciplinary measures. It was recommended that enlightenment programmes should be organized and intensified to create more awareness and fast track a paradigm shift from the use of abusive punitive strategies by parents and caregivers to build a safer world
