Item Teacher-related factors as correlates of secondary school students’ achievement in Economics, Ekiti State, Nigeria.(2015-06) Gbadamosi, T. V.; Jegede, A. F.The development of any nation depends largely on the quality of education of such a nation. Education in Nigeria is generally believed to have fallen in standard, specifically at secondary school level, which is perennially reflected on the academic performance of students in external examinations in all subjects, including Economics. Much effort has been made by all stakeholders with little impact The feet that teachers play crucial roles in students’ achievement is not in doubt hence, this study examined the correlation among Economics teachers’ competence, teaching methods and personality traits and senior secondary school students’ achievement in Economics. Three research questions were formulated. The study adopted descriptive research design of correlational type using multistage sampling technique to select sample from 6 Local Government Areas in Ekiti State. Three instruments were used to collect data, after they have been validated. Data collected were analysed using multiple regression. The findings of the study revealed that positive linear relationship existed between the predictor variables and the criterion variable. The three predictors’ variables accounted for 33.1% of the total variances in students’ achievement in Economics. Teachers’ teaching method, (P = 0.02; P < 0.05), teachers’ competence, (p = 0.84; P< 0.05) and personality traits (P = 0.28; P < 0.051 were significant Based on the findings, it was recommended that teachers should engage in effective teaching of Economics by employing activity-based teaching methods; update their level of competence for better academic achievement in Economics, among others.Item Gender, self-efficacy and personality traits as correlates of career choice of adolescents with hearing impairment in Oyo State, Nigeria(Department of Educational Foundations and Counselling, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, 2014-10) Isaiah, O. O.; Olawumi, S. K.The study examined the relationship among gender, self-efficacy, personality traits and career choice among adolescents with hearing impairment in Oyo State, Nigeria. The descriptive survey research design was adopted in carrying out the study. The purposive sampling technique was used to select 100 male and female adolescents with hearing impairment from Durbar Grammar School, Oyo and Methodist Grammar School, (Deaf Unit), Bodija, Ibadan, Nigeria. A 30-item questionnaire was used to collect data for the study. Data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation and Multiple Regression Analysis. Gender (r=.287, P<0.05), self-efficacy (r=.105, P<.05) and personality traits (r=.087, P<0.05) were positively correlated with career choice among adolescents with hearing impairment. Gender, self-efficacy and personality type significantly predicted the career choice of adolescents with hearing impairment (F(3,97) = 6.824, P<0.05) and contributed 74% of the total variance to the dependent variable. The relative contributions of the independent variables to career choice of adolescents with hearing impairment are as follows: Gender ((-.279), self- efficacy ((=.212) and personality traits ((=.045) respectively. Gender, self-efficacy and personality traits are important factors that enhanced career choice of adolescents with hearing impairment. Parents, teachers and rehabilitators should encourage adolescents with hearing impairment to come to term with their disabilities in order to choice careers that would make them to be economical independent.Item Determinants of quality romantic relationship among emerging adults in tertiary institutions in Oyo state, Nigeria(Department of Social Work, University of Ibadan, 2015-06) Alade, A.O.Romantic relationships undoubtedly play a major role in the lives of most young adults since it is the building blocks for a healthy adult marriage. However, attachment style formed in early life through interaction with caregivers and significant others and the individual’s personality composition provide a spring board for quality romantic relationship in readiness for marriage. The present study using descriptive survey research design, investigated the predictive influence of personality traits, attachment styles, age and gender on quality romantic relationship among emerging adults in tertiary institutions in Oyo state. The sample comprised male and female young adults (N=450) aged between 18- 25years old who responded to three standardized self report questionnaires. Three research questions were raised and answered in the -study. Results indicated that there was significant correlations among the independent variables with correlation coefficients ranging from r=.286 to r=.861 with quality romantic relationship. Multivariates regression analyses indicated that the contribution of the independent variable was significant [F (9,44;) = 2.37; p<.0.05] which jointly accounted for about 92.2% variation in the prediction of quality romantic relationship. Conscientiousness made the most significant contribution (β= 1.096; t= 31.483; p<0.05) to the prediction while neuroticism (β= .003; t=.128; p>0.05) and gender (β= .004; t= .007; p>0.05) had insignificant relative contribution. The study provides empirical evidence to suggest that psychological factors, like age and gender have a role to play in quality romantic relationship among emerging adults
