Item Perception and use of youtube by music lecturers and librarians in selected tertiary institutions in Kwara State, Nigeria(Taylor & Francis, 2018) Tella, A.; Okemute, F.; Tella, A.This study examined the music lecturers and librarians use and perception of YouTube in selected Kwara State tertiary institutions. Survey approach was adopted to conduct the study. The sample comprised 35 respondents (20 librarians and 15 music lecturers). Three research questions were answered while data were analyzed using percentage, frequency count, and cross tabulation. YouTube was used by the music lecturers mostly for teaching, research and learning, enhancing learning experience, and engaging students with the contents of music lessons. Librarians on the other hand use YouTube mostly as reference point for events and occurrences, teaching tool for library instruction; and for communicating other libraries.Item Awareness and use of family planning information by women in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria(Awareness and use of family planning information by women in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria, 2018) Akinsanya, A. O.; Akangbe, C. A.Family planning is a comprehensive medical and social practice which enables individuals to determine easily the number and spacing of their children and to select the means of its achievement. The information on the knowledge of family planning services is referred to as family planning in-formation (FPI). Failure to use FPI often results in problems such as unwanted pregnancy, unsafe abortions, infants and maternal deaths, rapid population growth and sexually transmitted infections; among others. To avoid these problems, awareness of FPI is paramount but rather it appears to be low. The government, medical practitioners and the media are really bothered about the seeming apathy and unenthusiastic awareness of FPI by women. It is against this background that this research examined the aware-ness and use of family planning information by women in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study; simple random and accidental sampling techniques were used to select the sample size of 250 women of childbearing age (15-49 years). Questionnaire was the chief re-search instrument and data was analysed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentages for the four research questions. Findings showed that some of the respondents were using family planning methods while many were not because of fear of side effects, lack of awareness, and partner’s disagreement; among others. Awareness of FPI was found to be average but the level of use was low. The study therefore recommended that awareness of family planning information must be encouraged, quality of education and health-care services should be improved, and adequate funding should be ensured for procurement of required tools and equipment.Item Perception, attitude and use of indigenous stories among yoruba parents in Lagos State, Nigeria(Joytal Printing Press, Ibadan, 2020) Akintemi, E. O.; Amosun, M. D.In the traditional African societies, indigenous storytelling was a regidar practice where children were told stories by their parents and other members of the family and community. Storytelling played an important role in the family and it was a daily activity in the evening. Recently, many Nigerians do not like to speak their indigenous languages with their children and as a result, these children may not know their indigenous stories even though they know lots of foreign stories. This study therefore, investigated parents’ perception, attitude and use of Yoruba indigenous stories in Lagos State, Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. Four research questions were raised and answered. Three hypotheses were formidated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. Two hundred and eighty nine (289) Yoruba parents were purposively selected from both public and private schools in Lagos State. Self- designed questionnaire with reliability index of (a -0.84) was used to collect data for the study. Frequency counts, percentage, mean and standard deviation and t-test were used to analyze the data collected. Findings indicated that parents’ perception and attitude to Yoruba indigenous storytelling is positive, however the frequency of use is still below expectation. Parents with children in public schools significantly used indigenous stories better than parents with children in private schools. Based on the findings it was recommended among other things that storytelling in indigenous language should be used at home by parents, also Nigerian authors should be encouraged to write indigenous storybooks for children.Item A survey of undergraduates’ use of library resources in university of Ibadan: does discipline affect library use?(2012) Adetimirin, A.; Ojetola, A.Use of library resources and factors that hindered use by undergraduates in Social Science and Science disciplines in University of Ibadan was investigated. Random sampling was used to select two and three departments from social science and science respectively and a sample size of 218. Questionnaire was used for data collection. Results showed that print resources were more available for use than electronic resources in both disciplines. Majority of the social science students used the resources for examination and assignment (52.6%), while those in science used them more for examination purposes (57.8%). Books were accessible to students in both disciplines but journals, research projects and dictionaries were more accessible to social science students than science students. Social science students used books, journals, research projects and dictionaries more frequently than science students. The undergraduates in both disciplines expressed that unavailability of library resources, erratic electricity power supply, and improper preservation of library resources, obsolete materials and inadequate ICT facilities hindered their use of library resources. The use of library resources was determined by their accessibility and discipline of the undergraduates.
