Three research questions guided this study. Ex-post-facto research design using a multi-stage sampling procedure was used in selecting the samples. The study was carried out in nine Local Government Areas of Delta State, Nigeria with a total of 450 respondents. Three self-designed instruments titled "Youth Awareness and Involvement in Empowerment Programmes for Sustainable Development Questionnaire (YAIEPSDQ) (r = 0.82); Youth Knowledge of Empowerment Programmes for Sustainable Development Questionnaire (YKEPSDQ) (r= 0.73) and Youth Involvement in Empowerment Programmes for Sustainable Development Questionnaire (YIEPSDQ) (r = 0.89) was used to collect data. Data were analysed using frequency counts, percentage, mean and (standard deviation). The findings of this study revealed that youth: were not relatively aware of the empowerment programmes organised by the Delta State government; not duly informed about these programmes; have poor knowledge and are not fully involved in empowerment programmes. It was recommended among other things, that more awareness on youth empowerment programmes should be created, and that the government, non-governmental organisations, and school should take create a conducive environment for the youths to be actively involved in achieving sustainable national development.

Impact of health education on awareness of sedentary lifestyle as predisposing factor to cardiovascular diseases among secondary school principals in zone 4, Nigeria
    (2018) Akinwusi, A. T.; Odelola, J. O.
Skeletal muscles contract to produce body movement Essentially, skeletal muscle activities affect the health of other organs such as heart, adipose tissue, brain. Engaging in physical exercise enhances proper functioning of body organs, thus promoting healthy living. Nigerian secondary school principals are not known to engage in physical exercise, probably due to poor awareness of its importance to their health. Meanwhile, a life of inactivity otherwise called sedentary lifestyle is a risk factor to cardiovascular disease. In recent times, cardiovascular disease has led to a significant increase in deaths among administrators in Nigeria. Therefore, this study examined impact of Health Education on awareness of sedentary life style as predisposing factor to cardiovascular diseases among secondary school principals in zone 4, Oyo State, Nigeria. The study adopted a single group pre-test-post-test quasi experimental research design. Participants were given Health education on sedentary lifestyle and related diseases as its resultant effect. A split plot analysis of variance (SPANOVA) was employed to find the difference in pre-test-post-test scores of the participants. The result showed that, health education given was effective. The participants’ awareness level increased, thus willing to refrain from sedentary lifestyle and adopt a sporting lifestyle. It was recommended that, the Ministry of Education should mandate school managements to create time during the school hours for principals and members of staff to engage in physical exercises. Also, health education in which disease prevention will feature prominently should form part of the agenda during meetings of school principals.

Influence of discriminating factors of mental illness on the social wellbeing of patients in contemporary Nigerian society
    (2023-06) Afolabi, A.; Bakare, M. A.
Discrimination against individuals with mental illnesses is widespread and can have severe consequences for their recovery and well-being. In order to effectively address this issue, it is important to recognize, anticipate, and safeguard the rights of patients. A study was conducted in Ibadan to examine the social well-being of relatives of mentally ill patients and identify the distinguishing characteristics of mental illness. The research employed a descriptive methodology and utilized a simple random sampling technique, selecting 156 participants who completed a self-developed questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed using the Pearson Moment Correlation Coefficient. The findings revealed several significant relationships: knowledge was positively correlated with the social well-being of relatives (r = .182, n = 146, p < .05); attitude was also positively correlated (r = .0521, n = 146, p > .05); and behaviour showed a significant correlation as well. Based on these findings, it is recommended to enhance mental health literacy, as it can greatly benefit individuals and the overall population. Social workers should organize public awareness campaigns to educate the general public about the stigma associated with mental illness. Additionally, the government should prioritize mental health in budget allocations and allocate sufficient funding to support this area

Awareness and use of family planning information by women in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria
(Awareness and use of family planning information by women in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria, 2018) Akinsanya, A. O.; Akangbe, C. A.
Family planning is a comprehensive medical and social practice which enables individuals to determine easily the number and spacing of their children and to select the means of its achievement. The information on the knowledge of family planning services is referred to as family planning in-formation (FPI). Failure to use FPI often results in problems such as unwanted pregnancy, unsafe abortions, infants and maternal deaths, rapid population growth and sexually transmitted infections; among others. To avoid these problems, awareness of FPI is paramount but rather it appears to be low. The government, medical practitioners and the media are really bothered about the seeming apathy and unenthusiastic awareness of FPI by women. It is against this background that this research examined the aware-ness and use of family planning information by women in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study; simple random and accidental sampling techniques were used to select the sample size of 250 women of childbearing age (15-49 years). Questionnaire was the chief re-search instrument and data was analysed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentages for the four research questions. Findings showed that some of the respondents were using family planning methods while many were not because of fear of side effects, lack of awareness, and partner’s disagreement; among others. Awareness of FPI was found to be average but the level of use was low. The study therefore recommended that awareness of family planning information must be encouraged, quality of education and health-care services should be improved, and adequate funding should be ensured for procurement of required tools and equipment.

Pre-service teachers’ awareness and attitude towards user-generated content as a collaborative learning tool
    (2015-01) Adedoja, G. O.; Olasunkanmi, I. A.
The promotion of learners’ active participation and becoming responsible for their own learning through the use of information communication technologies (ICT) is quite encouraging and exciting in the age of digital technologies. In particular, the Internet-based platforms and facilities that assist students in creating and sharing knowledge is becoming more popular today. This paper examined the University of Ibadan Pre-service teachers’ awareness and attitudinal disposition toward user-generated content as a collaborative learning tool with respect to their gender and teaching subject. The sample population comprised 78(42.2%) male and 107(57.82%) female 100 level students drawn from five departments where teaching subjects are offered in the Faculty of Education. A questionnaire containing students’ awareness and attitude scales (QPAAUGC), validated with Kuder Richardson 20 (reliability indices = 0.75 and 0.66 respectively) was administered to the participants. Two research questions and four hypotheses were raised and tested respectively in the study. The findings show that 63.3% of the students were aware of, and have positive attitude towards UGC. However, gender and teaching subject contributed significantly (t = 2.298, p<.05) and (F (J l82) = 13.020, p<0.05) to students’ level of awareness. Also, gender ana teaching subject contributed significantly (t g3 = 2.298, p<.05) and (F (2182) = 13.020, p<0.05) to students’ attitude to UGC as a collaborative learning tool. Premised on the findings, this paper highlights its recommendations and conclusions.
