Item Situated harmful traditional practices in South-western Nigeria: recent Progress, challenges and lessons for policy engagements(2023) Omoniyi, T. O.; Babalola, S. O.The study examined critical discourse on teachers and students' technology appropriation for classroom engagements (TACE). The study employed descriptive research design while population comprised all public teachers and students in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, Nigeria. Purposive sampling technique was used to select the participants (300 Students and 60 Teachers) from schools with constant supply of computing facilities. Four scales titled Awareness of TACE (r= 0.98), knowledge of TACE (r= 0.71), perception TACE (r= 0.73), and readiness TACE (r= 0.85) were used in data collection. It was discovered that both the teachers and students were aware of technology/digital tools for classroom engagement, but teachers were not deploying the equipments provided and other online tools. Both had average knowledge of TACE. It was further found that the students were ready for the experience but curtailed by teacher factors and other logistics beyond their capacity. Both the teachers and students had positive perception of technology appropriation for classroom engagements. Result also showed that while students are ready for TACE, teachers are not completely ready. A.This study involves an analysis of the possible impact of the current global economic meltdown on the management of schools. Economic meltdown is used to refer to economic recession; and school management is used in this paper in two senses. It is used to refer to the group of elites that administer a school; and also to refer to the use of available resources in a school through team efforts to achieve the educational objectives of the school. The immediate effect of economic meltdown on organisations is the inability to maintain the current productive capacity owing to inadequate fund. This explains why companies are either reducing their sizes or closing down. It raises the possible implication of governments’ control measures, such as the cutting down of expenditure which may likely affect educational expenditure. Definitely this will be having an adverse effect on the school system as statutory allocations to schools may cease or be reduced. The school system may also close down if it gets to the extreme, hence the need to begin strategizing against such unpleasant situations. The school management needs to look for alternative systems of funding and guide against financial impropriety. Otherwise, the school system will collapse.Item Strategies for preventing social breakdown in schools(Department of Social Works, University of Ibadan, Ibadan., 1998-09) Folaranmi, F.An attempt has been made in this paper to present a model on the process of social breakdown. The model, developed by Robinson (1978) describes the gradual process of breakdown in social functioning in relation to individuals, families and schools and pays particular attention to the parts various agents of social control play in the prevention of social breakdown. Strategies developed by experts which are directed at individuals, professionals and the government for the prevention of social breakdown are recommended. Thereafter, the strengths and limitations of the strategies are discussed and a conclusion is reached that urgent social work intervention in the schools will help a great deal in preventing social breakdown in schools.
