Item Psychosocial analysis of fear of corrupt practices among university students: a case study of Olabisi Onabanjo University(2007) Ojo, S.; Sodeinde, O. O.; Okhakhume, A.S.The study investigated psycho-social analysis of fear of corrupt practices among students of Olabisi Onabanjo University. The study was a cross-sectional research which specifically adopted Ex-post facto design. Questionnaire format was utilized for data collection. The questionnaire included the Big-five personality inventory, fear of corrupt practices and personal data scales. Four (4) hypotheses were stated and tested using multiple regression analysis. The result showed that personality characteristics of extraversion, neuroticism, agreeableness, openness to experience and conscientiousness significantly and co-jointly predicted fear of corrupt practices {F(5,244) =4.48, P<.05,R2 =.08}. However, only personality traits of extroversion [a=-.17, t = 2.42, P<.05J and openness to experience [a=.23, t = 3.04, P<.05] had significant independent influence on fear of corrupt practices respectively. The results showed also that males and females were not significant different on fear of corrupt practices [t = -1.69, df= 248, P>.05J; student within the age group 18 - 30 years reported more fear of corrupt practices than students with the age group 31-45 years. The results showed further that students who had prior criminal victimization experience reported more fear of corrupt practices than student who had no prior criminal victimization [t = 2.94, df = 248, P<.01J; ordinary students were not significantly different on fear of corrupt practices, [t = -.056, df = 248, P>.05], Female and male who were political office holder were not significantly different on fear of corrupt practices [t = -1.15, df= 91, P>.05J. The study was concluded by establishing that some personality characteristic, specifically extraversion and openness to experience were found to have significant independent influence on fear of corrupt practices. Similarly, all the considered personality characteristics had significant co-joint influence on fear of corrupt practices. Age and prior victimization experience were found also to significantly influence fear of corrupt practicesItem Attitudes of subordinates toward women in leadership position(Ife PsychologLA, 2008-12) Okhakhume, A.S.The study investigated how women in leadership position are perceived accepted and evaluated by their subordinates. In an attempt to elicit subjects' response, the subordinates attitude questionnaire scale was constructed and was administered to 222 workers consisting of 111 males and 111 females drawn from University of Ibadan, Oyo State Secretariat, Nigerian Bottling Company, National Bank of Nigeria, First Banks Nigeria, Chartered Bank, and Cooperative Bank. The t-test of independent sample was used to analyse the research data. The findings revealed that: (a) Male subordinates have negative attitude toward women leader; (b) Subordinates with higher educational qualification have positive attitude towards women leaders; (c) Young subordinates have negative attitudes toward women in leadership position; (d) Christian subordinates have positive attitude toward women in leadership positions than their Moslem counterpartsItem The Influence of youth culture, self efficacy and peer influence on attitude towards sexual abstinence among university students(2009-06) Okhakhume, A. S.This study was designed to look at the role of youth culture, peer influence and self efficacy as it influences university students' sexual behaviour. Two hundred and forty (240) university undergraduates with the mean age of 24.32 years (60% males and 40% females were selected through purposive sampling technique. Self efficacy, peer group and youth culture were independently and significant joint predictors of attitude towards sexual abstinence (R2 = 0.40, F = (3,239), p <.0l). Self efficacy; peer group influence and youth culture interacted to influence sexual abstinence (F= (l, 239) = 3.765, p<.001). Students high on self efficacy and youth culture reported negative attitude towards sexual abstinence compared to those low on both self efficacy and youth culture other dyads of youth culture and self efficacy. Students high on Youth culture and peer influence also significantly reported negative attitude towards sexual abstinence (F= (l, 239) = 8.830, p<.001). The students high on self efficacy and peer influence reported negative attitude towards sexual abstinence compared to those low on both self efficacy and peer influence and other two dyads of peer influence and self efficacy (F= (1, 239) = 11.00, p<.001). Self efficacy, peer group influence and youth culture have significant influence on university sexual behaviour. O.Item Dispositional factors in cognitive emotional response among employees of telecommunication companies: implication for counseling.(2008) Ekore, J.O.; Amusan, A.O.The study examined dispositional factors in cognitive emotional response among employees in telecommunication companies in Nigeria. This was necessitated by the desire to understand the coping strategies of employees and the factors that influence their choices which have not been considered in performance improvement studies. of the telecommunication industry in Nigeria. A sample size of253 was selected through accidental sampling technique from two telecommunication companies in Lagos. Instruments used for data collection are: cognitive emotional response questionnaire (CERQ), self-esteem and the proactive attitude scales. Pearson correlation and t-test were used to test the hypotheses generated. Findings revealed significant relationship among proactive attitude, emotion focused coping strategy and problem focused coping strategy. Self-esteem significantly influenced the choice of emotional- focused coping strategy. Age of employees was also found to be a factor in the type of coping strategy adopted. Based on these, it implies that adjustment of employees largely depend on personal factors they bring to the workplace. Therefore, it was recommended that there is the need to incorporate intervention services in the organizations to offer employees opportunities for result-oriented counseling that would guide them in choosing coping strategies when faced with stressful experiences at workItem Job status differences in employees' judgment of organisatiqnal restructuring policy effectiveness(2008-04) Ekore, J. O.The study was designed to examine employees' status differences on their judgment of organizational restructuring policy effectiveness. The survey research was carried out in three companies in Lagos Metropolis, Nigeria. The companies were restructuring their operations by adopting a Total Quality Management Policy. A total of 217 respondents took part in the study. In the sample size, 146 are male respondents, while the remaining 71 are females. Questionnaires containing Perceived TQM Implementation Effectiveness (PTIE) scale and demographic characteristics sections were used for data collection. It was hypothesized that there will be significant differences in employees' judgment of the restructuring policy effectiveness based on their job statuses. The One-way Anova was used to test the hypothesis, which was confirmed by the results obtained (P<.05). It was concluded that senior level employees perceived the restructuring policy as effective more than the middle and lower level employees. O.The study, which adopted ex post facto research design, investigated the influence of sex role expectations on perceived work performance. A total of three hundred (309) employees were drawn from two multinational corporations in Nigeria. In all, two hundred and five (205) were males representing 66.6%, while the remaining one hundred and nine (109) were females representing 33.7% of the total participants. Their age ranged between 19-58 yrs with a mean age of 31.40 yrs (S.D = 7.03). Two hypotheses were tested in the course of the study. The result obtained revealed that there was a significant difference between employees high on male expected characteristics and those low on male expected characteristics on perceived work performance, (t(2, 294,) = 2.339 ;P<.05). However there was no significant differences between employees form Procter and Gamble and those from Fan Milk on perceived work performance, (t(2, 294,) = 1.517 ; P >.05). O.The paper examines the strategic contribution of human resources towards achieving NEPAD objectives. Attempt has been made at reviewing the focus of NEPAD, and the importance of highly skilled professionals in driving through the goals and objectives contained in the African leader’ approach to solving the continent's problems. The paper also considers the current trend, of brain drain to other continents and future prospect of retaining highly skilled manpower to help in meeting NEPAD objectives. O.This study examined the relationship of personality (conscientiousness dimension) with electoral officers perceived job stress during election. The survey utilised the expost facto research design. A total of 346 participants responded to the questionnaires. In all, 254 (70.4%) were males and 101 (29.6%) were females. Their age ranged between 25 to 50 years with a mean age of 38. 7 (SD = 7.38). Structured questionnaires were employed for data collection and the hypothesis was tested using Pearson moment product correlation, Results showed that conscientiousness had significant positive relationship with job stress; which is an indication that personality quality play important role in electoral officers stress during elections (r = 0,71, P < 0,01). Based on the findings, recommendation was madeItem Influence of employees' sex, number of dependants and family responsibility on job involvement(Ife Centre for Psychological Studies, 2004) Ekore, J.O.; Onomerike, F.Having a paid job constitute an important component of human needs. When on the job however, the level of job involvement differ among employees. Some salient personal characteristics of employees are seldom considered in discussing job involvement in Nigeria. This necessitated this study, which investigated the influence of sex, number of dependants, and family responsibility on job involvement. A total of 200 participants drawn from two multinational corporations in Ibadan, Nigeria took part in the study that adopted the exposit factor design. Questionnaires were used for data collection. Females were found to be more involved in their job than the male workers that participated in the study. Number of dependants was found to have high positive relationship with job involvement. It was concluded that there is no justification for the gender stereotype that encourage the deliberate exclusion of females from certain jobs in organisations. Having high number of dependants does not hinder job involvement. The need for gender sensitive policies was recommended for Management of organisaiions
