The relationship between environmental factors and health problems of secondary school students in Oyo State, Nigeria
    (Medwell Journals, 2008) Anyanwu, F. C.; Adio-Moses, R. O.; Obaretin, M.T.
This study investigated the relationship between Environmental factors and health problems of students in Oyo state Nigeria. The environment in which a child stays and learns as a direct effect on his/her health status. The classroom environment where too many students sit together to learn is likely to predispose them to infections and other health related problems. The number of students in a classroom can affect tire condition of the environment where proper ventilation is not possible and the spread of diseases become more prominent. The condition will therefore put the health of those students in jeopardy. A sample of 2000 respondents was used for the study. Data collection involved the use of questionnaire while data analysis was done using frequency counts and percentages. The findings revealed that faulty refuse disposal, lack of toilet facilities, crowded classrooms and poor water supply as environmental factors predisposed the students to health problems. These findings have implications for curriculum planners and policy makers who are interested in the well being of the child.

Media rhetoric and social responsibility in Nigeria
(African Association for Rhetoric, 2009) Isola, O. 0.; Babatunde, A.
The essential feature of modern mass media is its large, heterogeneous and widely dispersed audience. This feature has its root in the audience of the traditional theatre, musical performances and political rallies, which involves physical gathering of people previously sharing little perspectives about the events bringing them together. Rhetorical styles are strong instruments of sustaining the attention of people in such gatherings. Such styles sometimes involve evoking emotions and audience empathy to the cause of the speakers in such gatherings and often, this stimulates the audience into predictable actions. This feature is strongly shared by the modern mass media, whose immense strength to stimulate the masses into negative and positive actions have been recognized. Technological innovations in the media are constantly reinforcing this strength on the audience who are now bigger, much more dispersed and relying more on the media with pervasive consequences of media messages on their behavioral disposition towards public issues. This paper critically reviews the rhetorical influence of the mass media on Nigerian society and makes suggestions on ways by which the media could exhibit more social responsibility during their rhetorical transaction with the audience

The aberrant Esie head as model: an insight into the styles and origin of the Esie stone carvings
    (2000) Pogoson, O.I.
lfe is incontrovertibly the most important Yoruba town in terms of art, religion and culture, it is therefore advantaged as a possible source place to solve the problem of the enigma surrounding the Esie stone carvings. This hypothesis is pursed to the conclusion that lfe is the most likely place that could have conditioned the Esie stone carving in their present location. An aberrant stone head, the largest among the over 800 stone carvings found in Esie is stylistically and culturally compared and linked with other Yoruba stone carvings from lfe and indeed a group of naturalistically carved stones also identified among the Esie corpus. This leads to conclusion of an lfe impetus for the creation of the Esie stone carvings
