    (2015-03) Oyewumi, A.; Isaiah, O.; Adigun, O.
This study investigated the influence of social networking (SN) on the psychological adjustment of adolescents with hearing impairment in Oyo State, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. A purposive sampling technique was employed to select adolescents with hearing impairment. A simple random sampling technique was also used to select 126 adolescents with hearing impairment who were thirteen years and twenty three years of age from both the junior and the senior secondary schools in Ibadan, Oyo State. 3 research questions were generated and one hypothesis was formulated. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire tagged “Social Networking (Social Media) Scale” with a reliability coefficient of 0.74. Data were analysed with inferential statistics of Pearson Product Moment Correlation, Multiple regression and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The findings revealed that use of SN have a positive significant relationship with emotional intelligence (r = .601; P < .05) and self-esteem (r =.280; P < .05) while SN has an insignificant relationship with loneliness (r = -0.150, p > 0.05) among adolescents with hearing impairment. The finding also found a joint relationship between use of SN, emotional intelligence, self esteem and loneliness (F(3,125) = 33.052, P < 0.05). The study found no significant difference in the use of SN among male and female adolescents with hearing impairment (t = 0.796; df =124; p > 0.05). The study concluded that use of SN have a great influence on psychological well-being, access to information, sustaining relationships and self expression among adolescents with hearing impairment. Based on these findings, it was recommended that adolescents with hearing impairment should be actively involved in physical and social activities with their hearing peers in order to boost their self esteem and emotional intelligence while it will eliminate issues of social isolation and facilitate social inclusion.

(Journal of the Department of Special Education, University of Ibadan, 2013-07) Isaiah, O. O.; Azanor, F. O.
The study examined parental factors as determinants of social inclusion of students with hearing impairment in Oyo State, Nigeria. Descriptive survey design of the correlational type was adopted for the study. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 60parents of students with hearing impairment in Ibadan. One research instrument was used for data collection: parental factors and social inclusion questionnaire (r=0.83). Three research questions were generated and answered in the study. Data were analysed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation and multiple regression analysis. The study found that parents' marital status (r=0.782, <0.05), parenting style (r=0.539, <0.05) and socio-economic status (r=0.865, <0.05) correlated with social inclusion of students with hearing impairment. The findings of the study also showed that parents' marital status, parent socio- economic status and parenting style significantly predicted social inclusion of students with hearing impairment (F- ratio of 64.045p<0.05.). The relative contributions of the independent variables to the dependent variable are as follows: parent socio-economic status (β=0.851), parent marital status (β =0.184), parenting style (β =0.158) respectively. It was therefore, recommended that parents should play key roles in ensuring the inclusion of their children with hearing impairment into the mainstream of the society.

Meeting the psychosocial needs of students with hearing impairment through counselling services
    (2013) Isaiah, O. O.; Aderibigbe, S. A.
Adolescents with hearing impairment are often viewed as psychologically and socially maladjustment by all and sundry. This could be as a result of the inability of the environment to meet their psychological and social needs. Consequently, they have low sense of belonging in the society. Although, various scholars have attempted to address the psychosocial needs of students with hearing impairment through various strategies. This paper addressed the meeting of the psychosocial needs of students with hearing impairment though counselling services. It is strongly believed that counselling services in our schools will help students with hearing impairment to be aware of the various opportunities that will help them to adjust to their environment maximally.

(Department of Vocational Education, University of Uyo, Nigeria, 2018-08) Lazarus, K. U.
The world has become a global village. It is now crystal clear that life at present is different from life few decades ago. Nowadays, every society is striving for apt knowledge that can he used as panacea to solve their myriad problems. Previous studies have focused largely on the use of digital technologies among students without special needs with little consideration to students with special needs. Therefore, this paper investigated the availability, accessibility and acceptance of advanced digital technologies among higher education students with special needs in Oyo State, Nigeria. The descriptive research method was employed while the multi stage sampling procedure was used to select the sample for the study. First, purposive e sampling technique was used to select two higher education institutions that are owned by the federal government of Nigeria (one college of education and one university). Second, random sampling technique of the ballot method was used to select one hundred and forty (140) participants with special needs (those with hearing impairment were 125 and those with visual impairment were 15). Two structured questionnaires on availability, acceptance and accessibility of advanced digital technologies by higher education students with special needs were used for data collection. To guide the study, six research questions were raised and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The data was collated and analysed using the descriptive statistics of percentages, means and standard deviation. li was found that for higher education students with hearing impairment, digital technologies are poorly available and inaccessible. However, among higher education students with visual impairment, there is moderate availability, accessibility and acceptance of digital technologies. Based on the findings, it was recommended that the Nigerian government at all levels should brace up to their responsibilities and provide digital technologies for students with special needs particularly, those with hearing impairment in higher educational institutions in the country.

Psychological factors as determinants of use and adjustment to assistive technology by students with hearing impairment in tertiary institutions in Oyo State, Nigeria
(Department of Special Education, University of Ibadan, 2015-07) Osisanya, A.; Odili, J. N.
Students with hearing impairment find it difficult to use and adjust to assistive technologies due to some psychological factors. This in turn tends to have great influence on their academic performance and psycho-social interactions with people around them. Consequently, this study, therefore, investigated some psychological factors as determinants of the use and adjustment to assistive technology by students with hearing impairment in tertiary institutions in Oyo State, Nigeria. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study, as purposive sampling technique was used to select the sixty respondents from two tertiary institutions in Oyo state. This study raised and answered three research questions tested at 0.05 level of significance. Multiple regression and Pearson's Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) were used as statistical methods of data analysis. The findings of this study revealed a significant relationship among the psychological factors: personality (r-0.402, P<0.05); self-esteem (r=0.309, P<0.05); and locus of control (r=0.800, P<0.05) on the use and adjustment to assistive technologies by students with hearing impairment in tertiary institutions. The study also established joint influence of the independent variables on the dependent variables (F=34.662, P<0.05). The results yielded a coefficient of multiple regression which implies that the three independent variables jointly accounted for the use and adjustment to assistive technology by students with hearing impairment. Personality factor (β=0.707, t-5.173, P<0.05); self-esteem (β=0.664, t=2.310, P<0.05); and locus of control (β=0.751, t=8.502, P<0.05) had relative influence on the use and adjustment to assistive technology by students with hearing impairment. Assistive technologies are effective in boosting the performance of students with hearing impairment in tertiary institutions. Therefore, the psychological factors of students with hearing impairment should be enhanced before introducing assistive technology. Students should be taught how to develop the right attitude towards the use of assistive technologies.
