A.Causes and effects of global economic recession have been discussed by scholars from different perspectives in recent times. It was observed that Economy in Africa has not been growing well compared to developed continents in the world due to problems of underdevelopment occasioned by bad governance, and wide-spread corruption. Nigeria economy at present is undergoing a severe experience of an economic recession. Since some of the factors undermining development in Africa are also responsible for economy that slid into recession, the focus of this paper is to identify and discuss factors that are responsible for economic recession in Nigeria and explain how it can be tackled through the teaching of Literature-in- English in secondary schools. The writers are of the opinion that the inculcation of desirable societal virtues such as patriotism, honesty, dignity of labour, self-sacrifice through compulsory teaching of Literature in English will be in line with the federal government change mantra and help in revamping the nation’s economy that slid into recessionItem Reconciling Ethnic Differences in Nigeria through Literature education: Implications for Peace and Security(2016) Fakeye D.O; Aiyede, E. I.Nigeria is a country united in diversity. It is composed of diverse ethnic nationalities all trying to assert their cultural identities. The social and political developments of recent years have succeeded in creating a big hiatus in the relationship among the various nationalities. This is manifested in the spates of altercations that have been witnessed among various ethnic groups in recent times. In the face of this dwindling unity, myriads of measures put in place by the government could not achieve much. The ignorance of another culture creates fear, distrust, animosity and a disconnection between cultures in today's society. As always, to be educated about a culture different from one's own is the key to combatting this ignorance, bridge the gap and erase the fear and disconnection in order to start the reconciliation process It is, therefore, believed that using the option of literature education could bridge cultural gaps among the ethnic groups and thereby reduce conflicts to its barest minimum Exposing students to literary works from different ethnic cultures has the ability to nurture respect, empathy and acceptance among all groups. The paper also highlights the implications of this for peace and security in NigeriaItem Teachers’ Questioning Behaviour and Instructional Organisation as Correlates of Students’ Achievement in English Language(Global journals inc, (USA), 2013) Fakeye.D.O; Aiyede, E. I.The study investigated the relationship between teacher's questioning behaviour and instructional organization and students' achievement in English Language. The study adopted a descriptive research design. Four Research Questions were answered. The participants were 30 English Language teachers and 450 students randomly selected from 15 Senior Secondary Schools. The instruments for data collection were Teachers' Questioning Behaviour Observation Checklist (r = .79), Teachers' Instructional Organization Obs-ervation Rating Scale ( r = .81 ) and Achievement Test in English Language ( r = .78 ). Findings revealed that teachers ask display and referential questions that are largely mono-directional. There is a positive, very strong relationship between Teachers' Questioning Behaviour and students' achievement in English Language. O.The neglect of ethical values, which should form the substratum of any good education, has led to ineffectual, decadent, and poor learning. The duty of every society is to pass on the values enshrined in its scriptures and philosophical texts to each generation, in order, that the spirit of its culture lives on. Findings showed that a society with no required values cannot witness peace, growth and development. What is obtainable in the Nigeria society today are flagrant abuse of office, high and low profile corruption, poor attitude to work, gross misconduct, flair for frivolity and materialism, dependency of the Judiciary, lack of trust and so on. It was discovered that in planning for good values and objectives, the teachers and students, leaders and followers will have to cooperate and work together as a team, an indivisible entity. The purpose of education is to strengthen character in the younger generation which would provide solution to the problems facing Nigeria as a nation. This can only be achieved when education is value-oriented. The paper, therefore, recommends the core values of democracy which promotes a secure physical, emotional and political locus within the society. There is a need for a widespread renewal of individual commitment to an active life of principle and societal values like truth, right action, love, peace and non violence means of getting things done. As well, there is a need for better preparation of teachers as values educators.Item Assessment of household awareness of, attitude to and practice of environmental sanitation exercise and waste disposal management in Oondo city, Ondo State(Department of Social Science Education, Faculty of Education, Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Nigeria, 2018) Timilehin, O. O.The study identified the gap in household awareness of, attitude to and practice of waste disposal system and environmental sanitation exercise in Ondo city, Ondo state. The survey was conducted using 660 respondents. A self-constructed questionnaire with a Cronbach Alpha Reliability co-efficient of 0.71 (household awareness), 0.79 (house attitude) and 0.80 (household practice) was used for the study. An observation checklist was also used to elicit information. SPSS version 21.0 was used for percentage, mean, and standard deviation. It revealed householders have low level of awareness of waste management system, moderate attitude to environmental sanitation and poor waste disposal system as well as moderate practice. It is therefore, important for all and sundry across profession and divides in Nigeria, most especially in Ondo city to realize the importance of taking care of their environment in terms of sanitation and proper waste disposal method. The study recommended that there is need for “culture of waste disposal skills” which individuals should imbibe for a suitable environmental living via symposium, health talk and seminars across profession. It also recommended staunch punishment for environmental law breakers. There is need for sign post, bill boards and other media which should bear “Pro-bono” information and its penalties at market areas, streets and other crucial areas to caution excesses in Ondo city.
