Item Impact of authentic leadership on employee well-being in commodity market: a case of Nigeria’s cocoa industry(Society for Science and Education, 2024-12) Tayo, A. M.; Olajide, O.; Kutu, J. O.This study aims to investigate the relationship between authentic leadership and employee well-being in the Nigerian cocoa sector, a key commodity market in the country. Authentic leadership is characterized by self-awareness, relational transparency, balanced processing, and internalized moral perspective, and has been linked to positive employee outcomes in various contexts. Using a case study approach, this research examined the experiences of employees in the Nigerian cocoa industry to understand how authentic leadership behaviours exhibited by employers and managers influence factors such as organizational commitment, work-life balance, and overall well-being. Data were collected through interviews of Nigeria cocoa sector employees to gain a holistic perspective. Findings revealed that the Nigerian cocoa sectors comply with minimum legal requirements but do not proactively go beyond those standards, and that they provide basic healthcare benefits and adhere to safety regulations but lack comprehensive well-being programs. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the scholarly literature on authentic leadership and its application in non-Western, developing economy settings. It will also provide practical insights for Nigerian cocoa organisations and policymakers on fostering leadership practices that promote leaders’ authenticity, employee thriving and sustainable business performance. The results may have broader implications for leadership development and human resource management strategies in Nigeria's vital commodity markets.Item Library information resources in the era of global insecurity(Tim-Sal & Bim Publishing Ltd., 2020) Kutu, J. O.; Adekunle, S. A.Securing library information resources and facilities in the era of global insecurity is germane in building confidence and a sense of security among stakeholders and prevent theft by unscrupulous and criminally minded individuals. As a result of this, the paper explores the concept of information resources, discusses the broad categorization of information resources as well as explain the features, approaches and strategies for securing library information resources. The paper identifies the challenges confronting the use of electronic security systems in libraries in Nigeria to include inadequate funding of library, power failure, hardware and software failure, inadequate skilled manpower among others. It is recommended that consistent disbursement of funds for library projects, promotion of library education among librarians and other para-professionals, constant power supply to the library as well as training of IT professionals in core areas of library management to provide tailor-made technological supports for optimal operations of the library services would help to effectively manage library information resources in the era of global insecurity.Item Multimedia resources adoption and use among distance learning students at University of Ibadan study centre(Information Technology Application Group (ITAG) International, 2020) Omoghbe, G. O.; Quadri, G. O.; Kutu, J. O.Purpose: This study examined the adoption and use of multimedia resources by distance learning students at University of Ibadan study centre. Design/Methodology/Approach: Descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study. Four objectives were formulated to guide the study. Simple random sampling technique was used to sample 10% of the total population which gave a 532 sample size. The structured questionnaire was the main instrument used for data collection. A total of 532 copies of questionnaire were administered to the students at the faculty of education, 490 copies were duly completed and returned with a response rate of 92.1%. The data collected were analyzed using SPSS with frequency counts and percentages. Findings: The findings revealed that majority of the respondents affirmed that multimedia resources such computers, the internet services, mobile/cell phones, radio and overhead projector were the available at the distance learning centre while few of the respondents indicated that slides and charts were not available. Furthermore, most of the respondents noted multimedia resources such as mobile/cell phones, the internet services, computers, television and camera were highly utilized at the centre while CD was never used. Limited access to multimedia resources, lack of knowledge to use the multimedia, uncooperative instructor to facilitate easy access, time consuming were some of the identified challenges encountered. Originality/Value: It was recommended that there should be a general awareness about the multimedia resources at study centre and that funds should be adequately provided to acquire these resources. Also, university management should consider developing a functional policy that will guide and improve multimedia resources usage at the study centre.Item Information resources availability, utilisation and job performance of academic librarians in selected university libraries in North-Central Nigeria(University Libraries of the University of Nebraska--Lincoln, Lincoln, Nebraska, USA., 2020) Kutu, J. O.; Olajide, O.This study examined the level of information resources availability, utilisation and job performance in selected university libraries in North-Central Nigeria. Four research questions and three hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Task-Technology Fit was the theoretical framework underpinning the study. The study population consisted of 128 academic librarians in seven university libraries. Out of this total, 103 copies were duly completed and returned for quantitative analysis, giving a response rate of 81%. Sampling was purposive and enumerative as all members of the population were used for the study. Data collected were analysed using SPSS. Findings indicated that 90% of the respondents noted that there is high availability of information resources for their job performance while 77(75%) of the respondents revealed that there is high utilisation of e- resources. A relationship between level of information resources utilisation and academic librarians job performance was established in the selected university libraries at (β= 0.591; p<0.05). The hypotheses tested revealed that job performance was significantly related to information utilisation. Though, information availability was found to be positively related to job performance, the relationship was not statistically significant (β= 0.081; p>0.05). Theoretically, the study contributed to validating Task-Technology Fit Theory. Based on these findings, some recommendations were made.Item Investigation into factors inhibiting effective job performance of academic librarians at selected university libraries in North central Nigeria(Unisa Press, 2020) Kutu, J. O.; Garaba, F.The article examined factors that inhibit effective job performance of academic librarians at selected universities in North Central Nigeria. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and task–technology fit theories were the theoretical frameworks underpinning the study. The survey research design was used for the study. The study population consisted of 135 academic librarians and heads of library at seven university libraries. The total enumeration method was then adopted to select academic librarians. Sampling was purposive and enumerative as all members of the population were used for the study. A total of 128 copies of a questionnaire were administered across the seven university libraries. Out of this total, 103 copies were duly completed and returned for quantitative analysis, giving a response rate of 81 per cent. In addition, the census method was used. Copies of the survey questionnaire were used mainly to collect quantitative data from the academic librarians, and interviews were used to collect qualitative data from the university librarians (heads of library). The findings from the study revealed that 90 per cent of the respondents noted that there are hindrances to their job performance.
