Item Comparative study of virtual methods used for library service delivery among librarians in Southern Nigeria private universities(2023) Ilesanmi, T. C.This study examined the virtual methods of service delivery being deployed by librarians in private universities in Nigeria. The objective of the study was to analyse the virtual methods of service delivery among librarians and determine the predominant method used among the librarians. Survey research design was adopted for the study. Total enumeration technique was adopted for the study. A population of 181 librarians from 45 private universities in Southern Nigeria were involved. Data were gathered, analysed and presented using frequency counts, percentages, mean and standard deviation. The study found that librarians used different virtual methods of service delivery. Library website 157 (90%) and e-mail 132 (76.3%) were the prominent electronic media used by librarians while Facebook 59 (34%) and Whatsapp 57 (32.9%) were the predominant social media platforms applied for service delivery by librarians. Electronic media were more used for latest publications arrival, as well as library education and document delivery services while social media were more used for reference services and selective dissemination of information. In conclusion, virtual methods of service delivery were deployed by librarians in private universities for service delivery. In comparing the virtual methods, librarians used more of electronic media than social media to deliver services to their users. Therefore, electronic media were predominantly used than social media, many of the virtual methods were found to be underutilised while recommendations were proffered.Item Use of social media space for library service delivery: evidence from Southern Nigeria Universities(2020) Ilesanmi, T. C.; Mabawonku, I.The incorporation of social media into service delivery by librarians is essential to render contemporary and seem-less library services to the users. Studies have shown that awareness and perception constitute important factors in the use of emerging technology for personal use with paucity of literature on the use of social media for library service delivery. Therefore, this study was designed to investigate the use of social media for service delivery by librarians in Southern Nigeria universities. Survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised 669 librarians from the universities in Southern Nigeria. Total enumeration technique was adopted for the study. Data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics. Findings revealed that librarians used very few social media space for delivering library services. Low bandwidth, culminated in slow internet connection was the main challenge to the application of social media. Recommendations such as increase in the use of social media space and the provision of robust bandwidth to enhance internet connectivity were proffered.Item Improving Services in a hybrid academic library System(2021) Oyelude, A. A.; Ola, C. O.; Adeniran, E. A.The mixture of traditional or manual ways of carrying out library operations with new, modern, automated systems often brings about several problems. The problems are ones that can be tackled within the framework of having appropriate systems dynamics routines applied and also making use of personnel skilled in strategic management of hybrid library systems. The paper describes a hybrid academic library system and draws up a model of this system suggesting strategies and scenarios for achieving optimum performance of the system in a technology changing world. A system dynamics model for the management of the system is developed around the issues of personnel management, collection management, capacity building, and provision of access to research materials, Information Technology (IT) infrastructure, forming of Consortia, and Security in the system. O.; Mamudu, P. A.Purpose – This study examined the interceding influence of work–life balance (WLB) among library staff at the Kenneth Dike Library and its implication for the provision of information. The research sought to respond to the following questions: the effect of demographic variables on the WLB of librarians and their perceptions of WLB within the intimate environment. Design/methodology/approach – This study adopted a positivist research paradigm because the nature of the research revealed a single social reality which can be measured quantitatively, using a reliable instrument such as a questionnaire. The total sampling technique was used to zero in on the staff of the library, in which the entire library population was included in the study. Findings – The findings suggest that male librarians enjoy a better WLB than their female counterparts. Also, the results indicate that librarians, irrespective of their marital status, focused on job-related activities minding their marital status and therefore, marital status could influence the WLB of librarians. Similarly, priority is not being given to their work, to the detriment of caring for the family. Research limitations/implications – The study suggests that age causes the WLB to change, the implication being that an ageing workforce has an impact on adaptation, output and innovation. Originality/value – This paper sheds light on the WLB among librarians at the Kenneth Dike Library (KDL); therefore, information acquired from this study is imaginative and valuable to understand better how information professionals react to official and personal engagement.Item Marketing of information products and services in public libraries in South West, Nigeria(Academic Journals, 2018-07) Kutu, J. O.; Olajide, O.The study examines the marketing of information products and services in public libraries in South West, Nigeria. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. The population comprises professionals and library officers. Questionnaire was used as means of data collection. The sections consist of A and B. Section A dwells on the socio-economic variables of the respondent, Section B consist on availability of information products and services as well as marketing and promotional strategies adopted by the libraries. One hundred and thirty copies of questionnaires were administered and data analysed. The study reveals that the public libraries in South West market their information products and services and also shows that lending of materials, user education, school services, referral services are highly available. Quick and long queries, adult literacy programmes, reading list and bibliographies, indexing and abstracting among others were available whereas translation services, rental of premises and CD-ROM services are not available. Findings on promotional strategies for marketing information products and services reveals that majority agreed with display and exhibition as well as creation of conducive environment as the type of promotional strategies adopted in the public library boards studied. On the marketing management strategies adopted, the study reveals that respect to users along with paying attention to users rated highest as the commonest marketing practice among the studied public library boards. Based on the findings, it is concluded that marketing of information products and services by the libraries has a lot to do towards entrenching marketing principles and practices.
