A.Annotated Translation of Al-Madkhal fi'Umil-Farà'id (A simplified guide lo the Islamic law of inheritance), a book Written by Al-Sayyid ‘Ali bn Abi Bakr Al-Muthanna bn Alhaj Abdullahi Nyass Al- Kawlakhl Al-Tijani; May Allah be pleased with all of them (Amin). Many nuclear and extended Muslim families are in disarray and live in fracas after the deceased of a member due to the sharing of his or her property meant for the heirs. Therefore, some issues arise from inheritance provoke emotions and escalate irrational behaviour among the heirs. Consequently, many peaceful homes were turned into chaos be it the wife or husband, father or mother, son or daughter. The book simplified the proportion allotted to each of the beneficiaries in the family. It will definitely guide young and old English audience on how the property of a departed soul could be shared in accordance with the sources of Islamic law. Leading questions were supplied at the end of the book which could be regarded as a self assessment for the reader.Item Study of al-mushakalah (homonyms) in the qur’an translated into yoruba(British Journal Publishing Inc, 2016-07) Shittu, S. A.The Qur’an had played a great role on the languages of the world, and the Yoruba language (Southwestern Nigeria) is not an exemption. The paper looked into the Qur’an with its characteristic features, its influence on the Arabic language and the view of scholars on its translation. lt studied the rhetorical application of al-Mushakalah (Homonyms) in the Qur'an translated in o Yoruba Language. Al-Mushakalah as a topic under the branch of Arabic Rhetoric, known as al-Badi. Views of rhetoricians on Homonyms and Paronomasia and how they are interrelated, in spite of their differences got an attention. It carefully selected verses that relate to al- Mushakalah and their Yoruba translation with an analysis and evaluation of those verses in order to establish their nearness to the intended message of the Qur'an. The semantic link of Homonyms with metaphor were briefly examined.Item Semantic connotation of hadith and the emergence of arabic schools of grammar(European Scientifìc Institute, 2016-06) Shittu, S. A.; Adebolu, I. A. S.Scholars focused the contributions of the Qur’an to the evolution of Arabic Grammar, but few of them focused on the effect of prophetic tradition on the area. This paper, therefore, focuses on semantic connotation of prophetic traditions: “Guide your brother, he has gone astray” and "Divergent opinion of my followers is a blessing” These sayings of the prophet led to the evolution of Arabic grammatical studies and the establishment of its schools that enriched Arabic grammar. It opens with the grammarians’ contribution to the development of Arabic grammar such as Abul-Aswad Addu’all (d.69 A.H), Seyyid ‘Ali b. Ab! Talib, al-Khalil ibn Ahmad al-FaràhidT and so on. Although, There were five major schools of Arabie grammar namely: al-Madhhab al -Basra, al-Madhhab al- Kufa, al- Madhhab al-Bagdad, al-Madhhab al- Andalusi and al-Madhhab al- Misri but Ibis paper, mainly focuses on the two prominent schools - Basran and Kufan. It analyses the conflict of theory in Arabic grammar on some topics and other terms, grammatical debates between notable scholars of the two schools with their divergent opinions. The discussion ends with the justification of analogical deduction employed by the two schools in their analysis as a commendable exercise.Item Mazahir al-naqdil-arabic wa fununuhu(Centre for Trans-Saharah Studies, University of Maiduguri, Nigeria, 2015) Shittu, S. A.Criticism; a Greek word derived from "krites" which denotes "judge". The judgement occurred in the process of poetic creation, which a poet might have made certain judgement about the themes and techniques to he used before presentation to the audience who will in-turn search for certain ingredients in the production. This field is a continous process that needs an update for conformity with modern trends in Arabic Literature. This article, therefore, explores divergent views of scholars on the meaning of "al-Naqd" in Arabic literary criticism. It traces the history of Arabic literary criticism from Pre- Islamic period to the modern time especially its trends in the Contemporary Period. It explains the distinction between a critique and a narrator. Ideal qualification of a critique and his characteristic features receives adequate attention. While sample of an ideal Arabic Literary Criticism on poetry and prose in the contemporary period serves a model of modern method for Arabic critics .Item Basic elements of rules of metrics in arabic prosody for Nigerian students(Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Nasarawa State University, 2015) Shittu, S. A.While prosody has been one of the linguistic subjects in various Arabic schools, its study has been equally characterized by precarious situation ranging from the methods by the teachers particularly in the local madrasa. This half-baked knowledge has been the basis of the subject up to the University level which constitutes a serious problem of background to the subject. A.Item Dirasatun tatbiqiyyah lil-suwar al-bayaniyyah (al-majaz) fil-amthal al-yorubawiyyah(Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, College of the Humanities, Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, 2013-12) Shittu, S. A.Proverb has been regarded as one of the most precious treasures and heritages that preserve competence, eloquence as well as syntactic and semantic comprehension of any language around the globe. Yoruba Language is one of the major languages out of 656 spoken languages in Nigeria. Consequently the paper opens its study with a brief illustration of the origin of Yoruba proverbs, points of its acquisition and method of its oral transmission from one generation to another. A brief historical status of al-Majaz in Arabic rhetoric which gives birth to metaphor, free and mental figure and metonymy follow as second segment. Besides the rhetorical analysis of the selected proverbs that examines both the linguistic and literary studies also reveals stylistic and rhetorical application of some sentences which transmigrate its real semantic rendition. These also prevail on the rhetorical imagery of the transcendental connotation of both languages. A.Item Semantic interpretation of the qur’anic concept of politics: its relevance to Nigeria situation(2012-10) Shittu, S. A.A lot of theories had been propounded by early and modem philosophers in order to have a suitable, stable and desirable political industry in Africa and the world at large. Such include Thomas Hobbes’s concept of political representation or individualization and modem democracy, John Locke’s theory of state of nature and social contract, Ibn Khaldun’s theory of As-Sabiyyah (Solidarity) and yet the Realists, Liberals and Radicals were unable to supply a perfect model. Some scholars clamour that religion, gender discrimination and racial identity should be detached from the politics for its sustainability yet, their efforts have not yielded deserved results. The penetrating dynamism of the Qur’àn is tremendous and irresistible, the practicability of its teachings are far all the ages. Therefore the paper examines the dictates of the Qur'an, whose universality is encompassing irrespective of race, gender and religion. Its concept of Politics, Election/Selection of a leader and Electorate could be a model to be adopted to the present nature of Nigeria politics as described by scholars and the adoption of this Qur’anic model might proffer permanent solution for stability, suitability and desirability of political industry in Africa and world at large.
