    (2013) Oladipo, I. O.
The paper examines the physical and physiological implications of exercise on the health and well-being of expectant mothers. Modern popular culture has embraced the concept of a fit pregnancy. However, in Nigeria the awareness of the contention that regular exercise during pregnancy incurs little risk is yet to be well accepted. Ideally, it is good for any woman to follow a regular exercise routine throughout her life, likewise women who are considering being pregnant, begin in a good physical condition before becoming pregnant is important. Being fit helps a woman's body meet the increasing physical demands of carrying a baby. The changes that occur to a woman's body during pregnancy are many but this paper selected some physical and physiological changes which exercise can be of benefit. The paper further discussed effect of exercise on these changes. The authors recommended some exercises with necessary guidelines that can be of benefit to the mothers to be.

Analysis of the use of exercise imagery functions by exercisers in Nigeria
    (2011) Adegbesan, O. A.; Oladipo, I. O.
It is a general position that imagery plays a cognitive behavioral role in enhancing the performance of sport skills as noted in Short and Short (2005), the use of imagery is also more equally significant in exercise activities and can bring to fruition the performance of an individual exerciser because of its unique motivational function. Research studies has been conducted, examining imagery use by different categories of participants related to sport and exercise in the developed world, there have been dearth of literature on imagery use on similar participants in the deve1oping countries, hence the purpose of this study. Participants (482) male and female students were recruited from universities of Nigeria (mean age 24.0 ±SD4,7; male, n=256) and (mean age 23.0±SD5.2, female, n=226). A demographic questionnaire and the Exercise Imagery Questionnaire (EIQ) Hausenblas et. a1 (1999) were used for data collection. Results indicated that no significant difference (p>0.5) was found on the three imagery functions by sex. But significant difference (p<0.5) was located on the appearance imagery function based on the criterion independent variables of three exercise activity groups of the exercise participants.

Sport talent identification and development in Nigeria: a preliminary investigation
    (Education Publishing Company, Republic of Korea, 2010) Adegbesan, O. A.; Mokgwatchi, M.; Mokgothu, C.; Omolawon, K. Q.; Arnmah, J.; Oladipo, I. O.
Sport talent identification and development has become an interesting area of sport science research and the need to explore the basic fundamentals of this process necessitated the need for this preliminary investigation in Nigeria with the view to develop an ideal sport talent identification and development model that could be used for future recruitment and selection of young potencial athletes. Data was collected from 50 participants using a self-report instrument based on the talent identification and development characteristics and indicators. Results indicated that the physiological characteristic with the mean value (m = 15.26 ± sd = 8.44) was the most apparent considered variable used by the participants during the talent identification and development process when compared with other variables of motor skill, psychology, physiology and body morphology. Results on the indicators of sport talent identification and development revealed that majority of the participants, 27(54.0%) of coaches place emphases more on both the performance of basic motor skills and the combination of the anthropometrical, physical and physiological profiles of the young talented athletes during the talent identification and development process. Conclusively, this baseline information has given us insight to the future direction of this research which is the examination of these talent Identification characteristics and basic indicator using descriptive field and laboratory measures with an enlarged sample that will include sport scientists This will enable us to analytically dissolve the potentials of the young athletes into a series of measurable and non-measurable components.

Efficacy of therapeutic exercise and electrical stimulation on angle range of motion of sciatic nerve injection injury
(Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, University of Cape Coast, Ghana, West Africa, 2010) Oladipo, I. O.; Davis, O. A.
The study compared the effectiveness of therapeutic exercise and electric stimulation to increase the range of motion on Sciatic Nerve Injection Injury (SNII). The pretest post-test design was employed. Subjects were thirty SNII patients aged 3-8 years. They were randomly assigned to three treatment groups: Therapeutic Exercise, Electrical Stimulation and, Therapeutic Exercise and Electrical Stimulation. Rehabilitation was carried out in selected Physiotherapy departments three times a week for twelve weeks. Statistics of mean, standard deviation and frequency of occurrence were used to describe the data. Inferential statistics of correlation t-test was analysis between pretest and post-test in. each group revealed that therapeutic exercises has a significantly positive effect on the range of motion in the affect angle joint. Lastly, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) used in analyzing the difference among the three groups revealed the therapeutic exercise war more effective than electrical stimulator in the management of SNII. But the effect was multiplied among group where the two modalities were combined.

Perceived relationship among age determination, self-confidence and peak athletics performance
(Nigerian Society for Sports Management (NSSM), Department of Physical and Health Education, Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos, 2009) Oladipo, I. O.; Nwuchegbuo, O. S.
There is no doubt that determination and self confidence have relationship with high athletic performance. However the focus of this study is to determine whether the birthdate of the athlete and the duration of club membership will influence the two dependent variables. Descriptive survey research design was used. Subjects comprised 100 male football players from four clubs that registered for 2007/2008 NFF cup competition. Tutko and Richards Motivational Rating Scale (1980) was used to collect the data. The chi-square analysis that was used did not reject the four hypotheses. The study concluded that at any age and no matter the duration of a player in the club, determination with self confidence to win, is a significant factor.

Nutritional supplementation and elite sports performance
(International Council for Health, Physical EducatIon, Recreation, Sport and Dance ICHPER.SD Africa Region, 2008) Abass, A. O.; Oladipo, I. O.; Emeahara, G.; Alo, S. B.
This paper attempt to critically review and investigate the- role of Nutrition in physical activities and sports performance. The review evaluates the theoretical rationale and potential efforts of athletic performance of carbohydrate, protein and micronutrient supplementation. Carbohydrates are the most efficient fuel for energy production. They can also be stored as glycogen in muscle and liver, functioning as a readily available energy for prolonged strenuous exercise. For an elite athlete the total energy requirement is an average of 4500 calories per day. From previous studies, due to the difficulties of evaluating energy output during sports performance, the calories expended were not stated. Studies of athletes utilizing omega-3 fatty acid and medium – chain tryglycerrided (MCTs) were associated with improvement in metabolic indices. Supplementation with essential vitamins, metabolic intermediates and minerals shows conflicting results, which demands further research. Of the nutrients reviewed, carbohydrates, branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) and creatine appears to have the most nutritional ergogenic potentials for athletes involved in endurance and intense training. All supplements reviewed here need more evaluation for safety and effects on athletic performance

Home-based remedial exercise programme for low back pain
    (2006) Oladipo, I. O.; Ogbuehi, R. A.
This study was to find out the effect of home-based remedial exercise programme for low back pain, considering charges in pain level, flexibility of the lumbar spine and functional activity level. The participants comprised 5 females and 1 male. Prior to the programme, there was a pre-test, then an eight-week exercise training programme followed by a post-test. The results were analysed using descriptive statistics of range, mean and standard deviation and inferential statistic of paired sample t-test at a significant level of 0.05. The results revealed that there was reduction in the pain level and an increase in functional capacity due to the exercise programme; but there was no significant effect on flexibility. It was therefore recommended that secretaries and lecturers should endeavour not to sit all day but should stand at some internals to stretch their back muscles. Low back exercises should be performed both at home and at work; also, institutions should include and enforce lunch breaks, especially for secretaries and should organize fitness programmes aimed at back care for staff.
