Item Knowledge infrastructure development as panacea to quality assurance in higher education in Nigeria(Department of Guidance and Counselling, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, 2019) Olaojo, P. The paper emphasized knowledge infrastructure development as panacea to quality assurance in higher education in Nigeria. From preliminary observation, there may not be meaningful, Creative and deepened use of technology for teaching, learning and research activities in higher institutions without the availability and adequacy of knowledge infrastructure. The methodology adopted for this paper was literature-based approach. The literature consulted covered the period of 1995 to 2017. The materials consulted for the literature survey include scholarly journals, textbooks, conference proceedings, and Internet sources. Contextual information from the information materials were studied comparatively, discussed and inferences were drawn from the literature. The concept of knowledge infrastructure has been discussed in the paper to reflect new knowledge practices captured under the language of crowd sourcing, cyber-infrastructure, personal informatics, citizen science, open access, among others. The paper further discussed the process of knowledge infrastructure which centred on knowledge accumulation, integration, and reconfiguration. In addition, knowledge infrastructure as panacea to quality assurance in higher education reflects quality use of information by access control. The paper concludes that investment in knowledge infrastructure would make African countries to compete with the rest of the global world in terms of infrastructural development. The recommendations therefore include provision of relevant ICT tools to aid library services; improvement of library personnel ICT skills; and readiness to use knowledge infrastructure by library users.Item Collection development and preservation of indigenous knowledge in selected federal university Libraries in South West, Nigeria(Libraries at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2017-09-28) Abioye, A.; Oluwaniyi, S. A.In view of the importance of indigenous knowledge in development process, this paper investigated the efforts of selected federal university libraries in South West, Nigeria in indigenous knowledge collection development and preservation. The study adopted a descriptive survey design that involved the use structured questionnaire, unstructured interviews and observation as instruments for data collection. Seventy six (76) professional librarians constituted the target population of the study; therefore seventy six (76) copies of questionnaire were administered to the professional librarians in the selected university libraries. The data collected using the questionnaire complemented by interview and observation were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Findings from the study revealed the tremendous efforts of selected university libraries in IK collection development and preservation in the libraries as the study revealed the existence of IK materials. It also established that dearth of fund and linguistic problem were the challenges facing the collection development and preservation of IK in the selected university libraries. It therefore recommended that the university libraries should liaised with the international bodies for financial support for the sustainability of IK resources collection development and preservation in the libraries.Item Institutional repositories in university libraries in Nigeria and the challenge of copyright(Society for Science and Education, United Kingdom, 2017-08-25) Okoroma, F. N.; Abioye, A. A.Copyright is a focal issue contending with the development of institutional repositories (IRs). Extant literature focused on the awareness, benefits and the various IR activities across the globe. This study investigated the issues of copyright in institutional repository in universities’ libraries in Nigeria. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. A multistage sampling procedure was employed to sample 844 lecturers of the universities in Nigeria. Data generated were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings revealed that plagiarism, piracy, counterfeiting, photocopying and lack of non workable policy guiding copyright matters and its implementations are among the copy right issues hindering the deployment and sustenance of institutional repositories in Nigeria. The study advocated for adequate legal framework and a workable policy guiding copyright matters.
