Item Victimology and psychosocial well-being of the elderly in Iwaya community(2019) Fatoye, H. A.Victimology is an infrequently discussed social phenomenon in Nigeria despite its prevalence and grave social implications. Nigerian government does not provide social security for the elderly and the support from the family is fading out, leading to kidnap and abuse of elders. The study examined the relationship between Victimology and psycho-social wellbeing of elders in Iwaya community, Lagos State. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive and t-test at P value 0.5. The findings revealed that kidnapping and abuse of elders were more experienced outside Lagos State (14.7%) than other places such as within neighbourhood (8%), outside neighbourhood (6.7%), and outside the country' (7.3%). The value of X2 at the .05 level of significance with 1 degree of freedom was 3.841. The computed value of 2.227a was smaller and within the critical value range of 3.841. The null hypothesis that there is no significant relationship between kidnapping of elders and their psychosocial wellbeing was accepted. The value of X2 at 0.5 level of significance with 1-degree freedom was 3.841. Computed value of 4.313a was greater than the critical value of 3.841. The null hypothesis that there is no significant relationship between mistreatment and their psychosocial wellbeing was rejected. Results suggest possible factors such as poor quality of education, high level of poverty, lack of value for hard-work and indiscipline are causes of crime, thus negatively affecting security of lives and properties. Government should address security lapses by providing the security agencies with necessary facilities and environment conducive to combating crime in NigeriaItem Knowledge and attitude as determinants of practice of family planning among married men in Aleshinloye market, Ibadan(2019) Afolabi, A.This study examined knowledge and attitude as determinants of practice of family planning among married men in Aleshinloye Market, Ibadan. Descriptive survey design method was used for the study. Purposive sampling method was used to select participants for the study while a single questionnaire tagged ‘ Knowledge and Attitude as determinants of Practice of Family Planning among Married Men Questionnaire (KA PFPMMQ) " was used to collect relevant data. Two null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance, using Pearson Moment Correlation. The study established that there was a significant relationship between knowledge and family planning practice among married men (r = .891, n— 150. P < .05). Also, it was also revealed that there was a significant relationship between attitude and family planning practice among married men at Aleshinloye market (r = .867. n- 150. P < .05! Based on the above findings the study recommends that government should create more awareness to educate the general populace as knowledge about the subject matter is important in it acceptance and change in attitudeItem The role of social workers in the prevention of adolescent pregnancy in Oyo east local government area, Oyo State(Department of Sociology University of Jos, Jos, Nigeria, 2019) Afolabi, A.The study investigated the role of Social Workers in the prevention of adolescent pregnancy in Oyo East Local Government Area of Oyo State, Nigeria. It has been observed that unwanted pregnancy is popular among adolescents resulting in most of them dropping out of school. Specifically, the objectives of the study are to ascertain the factors associated with adolescent pregnancy and to establish social work intervention strategies for adolescent pregnancy. The population for the study consisted of 27 social workers in social work department of state hospitals, health centers, primary and secondary schools as well as social welfare organizations spread across 16 different locations in Oyo East Local Government Area of Oyo state. Total enumeration sampling technique was used to sample the 27 social workers. Questionnaire was used to gather relevant data. The findings revealed that poverty (100%), child abuse (100%), child abandonment 100%, and lack of sex education (92.6%) predisposed adolescents to early or unwanted pregnancy. However, Social Workers adopted improving communication between parents and their children (85.2%), community-based prevention (85.2) and encouraging adolescents to attain higher education (100%) as major intervention strategies to prevent adolescent pregnancy among teenagers. The study therefore recommends that Local Government Authority in collaboration with the state government should employ the Services Social Workers who have the competence and skills to address the root causes of adolescent pregnancy in order to prevent adolescent pregnancy. Also parents should instill sound moral teachings in their children and collaborate with social workers to provide effective sex education for teenagersItem Determinants and effects of street hawking among teenage girls in gate area of Ibadan(2019) Afolabi, A.The study investigated the causes and effect of Street hawking on teenage girls in Gate area, Ibadan. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design while simple random sampling technique was used to select 50 hawkers for the study. The instrument employed was a questionnaire which was tested to be valid and reliable. The research questions were answered using frequency, percentages and mean. The study revealed that the causes of Street hawking among teenage girls in Gate, Ibadan include inadequate family income (Mean = 2.98), unemployment of parents (Mean = 2.52), to support family (Mean = 3.10) and to make money for self (Mean = 2.78). Also, it was found that the effects of Street hawking on teenage girls in gate, Ibadan include the following: 1 sometimes feel unhappy because I am hawking (Mean = 3.04), I have incurred injuries in the course of hawking (Mean = 2.64), I have experienced physical violence while hawking (Mean = 2.82), I have been sexually harassed in the course of hawking (Mean = 2.70) and Some of my colleagues have offered me alcohol to drink while hawking (Mean = 2.66). The study concluded that Street hawking among teenage girls should of importance be stopped. The factors causing Street hawking are to be improved upon so as to prevent the negative consequences of Street hawking among teenage girls. It was therefore, recommended that government should enlighten the general public on the negative effects of Street hawking by teenagers. Also, government should provide programmes that will increase household income of parentsItem Relationship between education and utilization of maternal health care services by pregnant women in Ibadan north local government, Oyo state(Department of Social Work, University of Ibadan, Nigeria, 2019-06) Afolabi, A.This study examined the relationship between education and maternal Health care utilization among pregnant women attending maternity centres in Ibadan. Descriptive survey research design was adopted far the study. The sample study was selected from pregnant women attending maternity centres in the ten wards of Ibadan North Local Government. A sample of 120 pregnant women was randomly selected far the study. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data. The data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The study revealed that there was significant relationship between basic education and utilization of maternal health Services (r = .821, n= 120, P < .05).). It also showed that there was significant relationship between higher education and utilization of maternal health care Services (r- .856, N= 120, P<.05). Based on these findings, it was recommended that interventions to improve the utilization of maternal health care Services by women should include targeting women far medical outreach and health education. B.Item Peoples’ perception of the implementation of NHIS and its impacts on the NHIS utilization among workers of the federal agencies in the Oyo State, Nigeria(Department of Guidance and Counselling, University of Ibadan, 2019-11) Ishola, A.; Adeoti, A. B.The study investigated the People’s perception of the implementation of NHIS and its impacts on the enrollees, among workers of the federal agencies in the Ibadan metropolis. It adopted a descriptive survey design. Two hundred and fifty enrollees across the federal agencies in the federal secretariat in Ibadan participated in the study. It examined the implementation of NHIS, utilization of NHIS, level of satisfaction with health care providers, the evaluation of the referral process from primary to secondary care services, distance of the health care facility, satisfaction with services at the secondary and tertiary health care levels. Data was analysed using frequency distribution, percentage and multiple regression analysis tested at 0.05 level of significance. Results revealed that more than two-third (81%) of the respondents reported visiting NHIS accredited healthcare facility in the past two years. The patient’s utilisation was high. However, nurses attitude, and waiting time were found to be the major causes of dissatisfaction. Quality service, enrollees satisfaction with services, location of the PHCs and management of the referral process have direct relationship and predicted increase in utilization rates. Independently, Service quality, enrollees’ satisfaction with services, location of the PHCs were predictors NHIS utilization. Therefore, concerted efforts should be directed by all stakeholders towards the areas of patient dissatisfaction through better service delivery.Item Social workers in hospital settings(College Press, Lead City University, Ibadan, 2019) Adeoti, A.
