Item Information needs, seeking behaviour and use for sustainable development by market women in Lagos state, Nigeria(2009) Adetimirin, A.; Adeniyi, L.This study investigated the information needs, seeking behaviour and the sources used by market women in Lagos State for development. Random sampling method was used to select 120 market women from a population of 1200 while data was collected using questionnaire and interview methods. The women needed information mostly on finance, health and economic aspects and sought information primarily from informal sources such as friends, and colleagues, in the two markets (40%) covered to improve their welbeing. Friends, colleagues, radio and television were used daily for sourcing information. Over 87% of the respondents in both markets agreed that language of information source was the major barrier to their use of various sources. The needs of these women could be met through repackaging of information from information centres tailored to suit their needs and improve their life and society.Item Use of the internet by information professionals in some selected university libraries in South west, Nigeria(Association of Information Professionals of Nigeria, 2009-06) Adetimirin, A. E.The Internet in Nigeria is a veritable tool to access information due to the poor economic situation and the non availability of current library materials. This study attempted to find out the level of use of the Internet and problems faced by information professionals. Thirty- two information professionals were selected from three university libraries in South West Nigeria and the questionnaire was used for data collection. The Internet was used mainly for Electronic mails and the main access point was through cybercafes. Slow Internet connection, cost of bandwidth and little knowledge of Internet facilities were the major problems highlighted.Item Fifty years of archives administration in Nigeria: lessons for the future(Emerald Publishing, 2007) Abioye, A.Purpose - In commemoration of the 50 years of archives administration in Nigeria, the purpose of this paper is to look at the establishment of the National Archives of Nigeria, its expansion and development over the years and its role in coordinating records management in Nigeria. Design/methodology/approach - The paper is based on published literature and documentary evidence from records. Findings - The paper discusses the gains of the past, particularly the high hopes of the 1970s and the expansion and consolidation of the 1980s which rolled into the early 1990s. Notes the decadence of the 1990s and highlights the problems that bedevilled the institutions and archives and records management in the country among which are poor funding, lack of appreciation of the importance of archives, obsolete equipment and high staff turn over.
