It is of the fact that the relevance of Arabic language is not only restricted to the people spoken it as their mother language. Thus, it is globally applauded due to its effective recognitions and relevancies in other cultures and all human strata. History show that the place of Arabic language in multicultural society is very applausive, especially after the emergence of Islam spread beyond its domain to other continents like Asia, Europe, Africa, America, etc. Apparently, the position of Arab language in multicultural societies especially Nigeria (has the largest African population) which has predominant ethnic groups, cultures, and are than 400 ethnic dialects, with over 1.850,000,000 population is given a warmly applausive recognization. The reason is that its entry into the country dated back to the seventh century of the Hjrah era in which Arabic had been used for religious, social, economic, and cultural purposes. Therefore, this paper is aiming to give an expository analysis of the relevance of Arabic language in multicultural society and take Nigeria as a case study.Item Arabic manuscript collections at the University of Ibadan(The Islamic Manuscript Association in association with Bibliotheca Alexandrina, 2023) Oladosu, A. Hence, this paper examines each of the models and draws out areas that can conveniently match with and foster the Islamic model. It does a content analysis of primary and secondary sources of works on Microfinancing.Item Between text and practice: an assessment of al-fida among the yoruba muslims of South West Nigeria(The Department of Religious Studies, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria, 2012-12) Noibi, M. A.Studies have been conducted in the area of death and funerary rites in Islam. However, there is a dearth of research in the area of organizing al-fida' programs among the Yoruba Muslims of South West Nigeria. Therefore, this paper attempts to fill the gap. The paper examines the local practice of al-fida' in Yorubaland as against the background of the universally accepted orthodox Islamic teachings and practices on post-funerary duties of Muslims to the dead. It also traces the areas of likely influence of the African Traditional Religion on some Yoruba Muslims in the area of post-funerary rituals. Key-informant interviews were conducted with purposively selected Yoruba Islamic scholars. The study discovered that some Yoruba Muslims who engage in al-fida' “ceremonies” may have deviated from the pristine Islamic tradition and unconsciously imitate the adherents of African Traditional Religion in the land.Item Challenge of governance in Nigeria: lessons from Muhammad Bello’s "principle of leadership"(Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, 2017-03) Noibi, M. A.Nigeria is confronted with the challenge of leadership which often led to polity debacle and frustration among the masses who are always at the receiving end of governance deficits. Previous studies on leadership have focused on the concept and theories of leadership, and governance in Nigeria with little attention to application of the principles of leadership of Muhammad Bello to governance in Nigeria. Hence, this paper examines the contribution of Muhammad Bello to governance and investigates the possibility of applying his principle on leadership to the body polity in Nigeria with a view of solving the leadership deficit confronting the Country. Data for the paper was sourced through content analysis of literature. The paper discovered that although Nigeria is a multireligious state, Muhammad Bello's principles can still be applied to the Country given the principles of universality contained in it. The paper concluded by recommending that the leadership principles enumerated by Muhammad Bello should form part of school curriculum at all levels and be taught to prospective political office holders in the Country through the instrumentality of the Nigerian Institute of Democratic Studies.Item Combating in the threshold of emancipation: the myriad role of arab women writers to women's emancipation in the 19™ and 20™ centuries(2011) Adetunji, I.Towards the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the clamor for women's emancipation in Arab world had been a francophone overwhelmed the global world. The emergence of feminism and women's right activities in combating for women's right has co-existed with different government and Islamism. The feminists and women activists work tremendously toward liberation from the oppression to promote equitable relations between men and women. The overall goal is to establish equity within the gender without any discrimination within the family, before the law, in political participation, in the work place, in education, and public sphere. In their attempt to push their cause forward, feminists and women's rights activists adopted different Umbrellas under which they placed women's issues. The elites and educated amidst Arab women stood up to put an end to all challenges facing Arab women in Arabian peninsula like Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Lebanon , and etc. they began to speak and forward their ordeals to different publicizing materials like newspapers, pamphlets, memos, journals and etc. and many literary movements were established as a key to liberating the 'collective consciousness' from the traditional norms that had stunted their progress. Therefore, this paper is aiming to examine the combating efforts of Arab women writers and their myriad roles towards women's liberation in nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Interestingly, this paper enunciated the Status of Arab women in pre and post modernism, and the effects of literary salons and societies in the work of Arab women writers in 19th and 20lh centuries would be elucidated for literary discourse.Item Crescent visibility and the challenge to muslim unity in Nigeria(The Islamic Cultural Centre, London, 2014) Noibi, M. A.The unity of Muslims is imperative under the Shari'ah but the sighting of the crescent remains a daunting challenge, sometimes inhibiting this unity. Nigeria is not left out of this challenge as it is confronted with the ideological conflict amongst Islamic scholars in some sections of the country. Whilst studies have been carried out on the disagreement among Islamic scholars on the issue of single or multiple horizon and exclusive reliance or not on astronomy, little seems to have been done about the reconciliatory steps aimed at unity among Islamic scholars in Nigeria with particular reference to disunity about the dates of Islamic rituals. This paper fills the gap through reliance on both primary and secondary sources. Key interviews were conducted with some Islamic scholars. The paper, among other things, suggests the sustenance of the current bridge-building efforts by the Nigerian Muslim community leadership and the synchronisation of science and technology, together with physical effort to determine the actual dates of Islamic festivals.Item Despite the great impression of the Arabs and non-Arabs writers to the art of Maqamat genre, invented by Badi’I Zaman Al-Hamadhani in the fourth century A.H., which gained a wide recognition in both Arabo-Islamic communities. The quantum values and importance added by this literary genre in to the Arabs’ literary heritage has made unique literary creative genre, which changes the status of Arabic prose writing, formulated in the form of funny stories, chosen a narrator named ‘Isa bn Hisham, and a vibrant Hero known: Abu -1- Fatih al-Iskandari. This unique style was later emulated by many Arabs’ writers by producing their own Maqamat, such as; Abu-L-Qazeem Muhammad Al- Hariri (d. 516 A.H), Zamakhshari (D.538 A.H.) Suyyuti (d. 1505 C.E). In the twenty-first century, the great gestures of Africa Arabic scholars in general, and Nigeria in particular, with this literary creativity is very impressive and applausive , with the production of different Maqamat, followed the styles of Badi’ Zaman al Hamadhani, Abu -1-Qasim al- Hariri and etc., amongst are: Dr. Abdul Bari Adetunji in his Maqamat titled : Kaswatu-L-‘Ary fi-1- Maqamat Abdul Bari, Mas’ud Abdul Ganiy Adebayo Al-Oyowiy, in his Maqamat, titled: Maqamat-1- Oyowy, Muhammad Awwal Abdul Salam popularly known as Sahibul -Qur’an Al-Ilory in his Maqamat, titled : Maqamat -Ilory, and Ahmad Tijani Yusuf Ajegunle popularly known as Riku-1 -Asifiyah in his Maqamat, titled : Maqamat Ibn Yusuf and etc. Despite the multiplicity of the studies contained in Al-Ilory’s Maqamat, the rhetorical features have not been studied, which has created a gap to fill by the researcher. Therefore, this research aims to study the rhetorical features in the Al-Ilory’s Maqamat. But, before delving in to the main discussion, the concept of Maqamat, its characteristics and elements would be discussed. Then a historical background of the author of Al-Ilory’s Maqamat would also be discussed.(Nigerian Association of Teachers of Arabic & Islamic Studies (NATAIS) Lagos State Branch, 2025-01) Adetunji, I.Love, in Arabic term denotes hubb, iskiq, gariimah, wudd and hawaa. It semantically has more than thirty Arabic words denoting the same meaning.1 It has been a symbolic Interactive expression of feeling that has possessed quantum significance and values over the passage of time in both animate and inanimate beings. Extant research works on love poetry have been carried out by researchers on its quantum purposes and effects in the socio-cultural, anthropological physiological, psychological, religious and socio-linguistic and literary arena, in both Arabic and western literary works. However, there has been sparse attention on the exploration of the love theory and love poetry in Arabic Sufi literature, which has created the gaps to be filled by this research. Therefore, this paper aims to explore the love theory in the love poetry of Arabic Sufi literature, using Al- Shushturi Sufi’s Ecstasy as a paradigm. A.This thesis consists of nine chapters. The first is on the biography of the Shaykh while the second highlights the features of an ideal Islamic State. The subsequent chapters critically examine the views expressed by the Shaykh after editing the Arabic text and translating it. Topics discussed in the chapters respectively are patriotism, agriculture and commerce, education, family living, and health and social welfare services. Shaykh Abd al-Salam Yusuf A1 ikinla was an erudite scholar and a gifted writer. He was also a charismatic leader who commanded the respect of all and sundry, especially the -Western-educated Muslims who constituted the majority of members of Hizbulabah-al-Shalib, founded by him in 1952. His efforts to enhance the status of Islam and that of its adherents attracted him to the political activities of the 1940s and 1950s although he never contested for any public post. It is not impossible that Mustaqbal Ilorin al-Zahir, now under study, is as a result of his exposure to politics. Under patriotism, issues affecting security of the nation and commitment of the citizens to uphold its territorial integrity are discussed. Care of the land and encouragement of farmers financially and morally are treated under agriculture. The Shaykh talks about traders, foreign entrepreneurs and artisans under commerce. Much emphasis is laid on proper upbringing of girls, their freedom to study any course and compulsory education of every child under education. On family living, the Shaykh raises issues such as the establishment of marriage registry, size of the family, mothers' responsibilities to their children and the influence of the former on the latter. Topics treated under health services include qualities of animals to be slaughtered, environmental sanitation, traditional and modem physicians and training of doctors and para-medical staff locally and abroad. His discussions on social welfare services cover the settlement of the destitute such as beggars, lunatics and lepers. It is pertinent to mention here that the Shaykh's belief that Islam is not only a religion but a complete way of life underlies his submissions on the topics mentioned above. His intention seems to be the spiritual and material transformation of the nation into a better society.Item The Institution of waqf as an Instrument of peace and security in Nigeria(Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, 2013-04) Noibi, M. A.This paper addresses the challenge of insecurity which is engendered in Nigeria by gross economic inequality and extreme poverty. As a lasting solution, the paper therefore suggests the redistribution of wealth through the instrumentality of the Islamic institution of waqf (charity endowment). The institution of waqf would reduce the impact of economic shocks, provide social wages and generate employment for the poor. It would also assist the target group by providing sustainable welfare packages to them. Without doubt, the full utilisation of the institution of waqf would reinforce the pillars of love and brotherhood, and stimulate enduring peace and security in the country.Item ISL 433 The concept and practice of islamic banking(National Open University of Nigeria, 2014) Noibi, M. A.; Ahmed, A. F.Item Islamic development bank’s microfinance support programme and the growth of small scale enterprises in Nigeria(Canadian Academy of Oriental and Occidental Culture, 2014-04) Noibi, M. A.It is obvious that poverty is endemic in Nigeria. One of the reasons contributing to this is uncomplimentary situation is lack of employment for the majority of Nigerians. Several attempts aimed at creating employment have been embarked upon at governmental and non-governmental levels, with lithe effect. On the other side, the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), to which Nigeria is a key member, has been actively involved in the support of Small Scale Enterprises in some member countries through skillful carved sustainable non-interest base microfinance programme. Most studies on microfinance in Nigeria have not paid attention to the application of the IDB’s Microfinance Support Programme to Nigeria. Hence, this paper fills the gap through examining some of the past and present attempts of the government at providing microcredit and microfinance to Nigerians. It also considers the operational strategy utilized by the IDB at bringing sustainable microfinance scheme to the doorsteps of the poor in member countries. Consequently, it advocates this laudable microfinance scheme for Nigeria, arguing that if this is done, mass employment accompanied by best practices capable of reducing poverty would be injected into Nigeria.Item ISLAMIC LEARNING IN NUPELAND (1750-1982)(1983-02) ABDULRAHMAN, S.Islamic learning in Nupe land started almost concurrently with the inception of Islam into the Nupe country, about the middle of the 18th Century. This followed the practice of Islam which made literacy and acquisition of knowledge incumbent on every muslim. This study has been undertaken primarily to examine the rate at which the traditional Islamic learning has developed in the area and, at the same time, to assess the impact of this traditional system of education upon the Nupe people and their culture. The work is divided into six chapters. The first chapter discusses the Nupe traditional religious practices prior to Islam in order to provide a basis for comparison with Islamic religious practices. Chapter two discusses the establishment of Arabic Schools and the emergence of first Arabic writings Chapter three examines Islamic education generally and assesses its impact upon the Nupe people. The role of the teacher in the traditional system of Islamic education is examined in chapter four, while chapter five discusses some of the characteristics of the traditional Islamic Schools versus those of some Western oriented Schools, which also give Islamic education. The concluding chapter examines the sources of revenue for the two categories of educational institutions and discovers that the Western oriented schools are solely sponsored by the government of the area while the private Arabic Schools are left mainly in the hands of proprietors and private organisations. This implies that Western oriented schools have stronger sources of funds and are, generally, more equipped and more organised than the private Arabic Schools. The chapter closes with some suggestions for, the improvement of the quality of Islamic education generally throughout the Nupe country.Item An islamic strategy for the empowerment of muslim women in Nigeria(The Department of Religious Studies, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria, 2013) Noibi, M. A.Several Muslim women in Nigeria lack access to sustainable and independent sources of income. The situation has no doubt contributed to household poverty within the Nigerian Muslim community. In their bid to seeking credit to engage in lawful income generating ventures, Muslim women were more often than not, compelled to patronise interest-bearing sources of finance as against their desires and the teachings of Islam. Existing studies have treated the issue of women's empowerment from eclectic angles and the challenges of Muslim Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in Nigeria without suggesting an enduring and sustainable solution to the issue through an acceptable Islamic line of funding to empower female Muslims in the country. This paper, therefore, suggests the establishment of an NGO dedicated Muslim women from which Self Help Groups (SHGs) would emerge. It also suggests the establishment of Islamic Microfinance banks across the country to service the NGO and indeed its female Muslim clients. If this is done, it would go a long way in empowering the Nigerian Muslims through the means acceptable to Islam.Item Islamic teachings on poverty in the light of modern theories and realities(2013) Noibi, M. A.This paper examines the position of Islam on the phenomenon of poverty by interacting its concept, nature and theories with the conventional notion of it. The study discovered that Islam, similar to the secular conception of poverty, has given adequate attention to poverty from socio-economic and cultural angles. Poverty is not an Islamic heritage as viewed by some, instead, it is a religion and a way of life that advocates the complete meeting of the legitimate material needs of man. There is also the school of thought, which holds that efforts’ at acquiring wealth need not be made as Allah, through pre-destination, determines the financial status of individuals. The position of Islam is that this cannot be ascertained until after death. Therefore, man has to continue to legitimately and legally strive to acquire wealth. In cases when poverty is inevitable, Islam mitigates its negative impacts to the barest minimum. Hence, affluence rather than poverty is the Objective of Islam.
